Do you find the Babe Thread degrading?

By that logic, we should allow fascists, racists, and homophobes to post to their hearts content, and the only thing that should be done is not reading it.
If that is Simon's Logic I'd agree with him.

Hah! Round objects. If something is against the rules of the forum, then it is fully within the rights of the owners to restrict them. Reading through the rules, I see nothing that restricts people on the grounds of their beliefs. There is no sign on the virtual door saying "Sorry, No Fascists, Racists, Homophones, Homophobes or Moonies"

I could not give two hoots on what is in a man's heart, particularly if it is irrelevant to the topic being discussed; no one cares about your opinions on homosexuality on a food thread, or one on unrelated politics.

It has been established that the owner, and the mods as extensions of his will, do not feel it violates forum guidelines.

Furthermore, your extended characterization does not logically follow given these aforementioned conditions; some of the content you suggest would be restricted if done in an egregious or rule breaking fashion. It misrepresents what one said, and is not applicable.

Actually, yeah, the babe thread pisses me off.

One, I think relegating a women to the point of a sex object for bored forum members to stare at is insulting.
Two, I think the beauty standards exemplified in such a thread are..well I can't say how I really feel about them without setting off the auto censor key.

1. Insulting to who? The women who have posed for those photos?
Why do you think they pose for them?

2. That you can fix easily by posting pictures of women that meet your beauty standards :)

The babe threads make me feel dirty and unclean.

Even wire brush and detol won't clean off my revulsion.

Preferably one that is not a smoker lol

1. Yeah. And to people in general, it makes the human body something that is bought and sold for consumption. It's screwy.
Economic motivations.

2. No thanks. Women aren't a commodity.

The Babe Thread makes me feel hypocritical at best...

Mainly for this reason...I've looked in there, and yes, the women posted are beautiful...so I don't mind the thread per say.

However, if I were to find a pic of one of my friends or say a relative or someone I knew in there who was wearing hardly any clothes at all...I would find it degrading (at least I think I would). So, as long as they are people I don't know, I'm fine with it, but if it were someone I do know...I'd have issues with their picture being gawked at by horny little boys, teenagers, and old men.

But then again, you have to take into account that the women allow themselves to have their picture taken...so...I dunno...

I'll watch any image of beautiful women in any form whatsoever as long as they do it willingly.

But I avoid Babe Thread, or any thread of similar kind, just because it'll kill my bandwidth.

... Chieftess and I have talked about this, and we both agree that it is a sluttish thread that should be banned because it is morally degrading. We just don't have the power to do so... But if I got the guts to close it, and I had the power to do so, I would.

We may even ban the posters in it too... I believe that it's too sluttish for my tastes...

You keep your nose out of my morals, and I'll keep my nose out of yours. :)

Somehow I agree to this. I have a right to look at women in the babe thread and dont need anyone pushing their morals in my face ;).

The question that comes in mind is :

Would you guys feel ok with a Male Babe Thread ?

Would you ?
I wouldn't mind. If enough people really felt bad about it they'd be shut down.
The women in the pictures are meant to be oggled (especially by you pervs), and it shouldn't feel 'degrading' to them because they could be doing so much better but aren't.

I don't find the babe thread degrading. And anyone who does is perfectly free to not look into it. Everybody wins :D

I don't think the problem is the thread, per se.

I think its the message it sends.

If this is a forum meant to be welcoming and friendly to women (even those who are only pretending to be women online) then a demonstration of that good intention is to not allow such threads.

I'd be more worried of the message sent out if they decided such things are not to be tolerated.

Maybe we should call it the female thread? Maybe the name "babe" is what is so controversial. I fail to see how all of the content can be classifid as sluttish. Some of the women in their are professional athletes playing the game they play. There is no sexual orientation behind alot of the pictures.

I wouldn't be against filtering out some of them but for the most part I don't see what the problem is.By this mentality, the beach/pools are horrible places that only perverts should go to and should be banned from society. Along with any magazine (including Cosmo) that takes pictures of women that does photo shoots of attractive, respectable women should be banned also.

Women don't have me fooled, I have heard what women say about a good looking man they know. They are just as bad as we males at "degrading" one to an object. Some may hold from saying it but believe you me, they are thinking it.
