Do you find the Babe Thread degrading?

I don't think the problem is the thread, per se.

I think its the message it sends.

If this is a forum meant to be welcoming and friendly to women (even those who are only pretending to be women online) then a demonstration of that good intention is to not allow such threads.

Whilst I applaud the sentiment, I don't think a game about military and diplomatic strategy is ever going to be that apealing to women, we're kind of hobbled by that somewhat, if several women complained about it, I'd probablly ban it, I don't know if there has been that much resentment from our small crowd of female residents. As it is to me it's a bit PC to consider banning something that isn't offending an overwhelming majority of people. If they banned it though I can't say I'd lose sleep over it, I mean that stuff is available everywhere on the internet, it's not like I'd never see another pretty model or actress on the internet ever again :)

Like I said, I have no problems w/ the thread, per se. TBH, I don't typically browse it, at least not from work.

I think its funny that anytime someone is for some kind of courtesy that others disagree w/ that courtesy suddenly is "PC". So, PC is the term used as a de-legitimizer. Interesting.

As to you last point about being available "everywhere", that may be true, but its irrelevant as to having said thread here or not.

So, while I think we'd be better off w/ out such threads, my objection is pretty mild to indifferent.

Hah! Round objects. If something is against the rules of the forum, then it is fully within the rights of the owners to restrict them. Reading through the rules, I see nothing that restricts people on the grounds of their beliefs. There is no sign on the virtual door saying "Sorry, No Fascists, Racists, Homophones, Homophobes or Moonies"

<snip>

Furthermore, your extended characterization does not logically follow given these aforementioned conditions; some of the content you suggest would be restricted if done in an egregious or rule breaking fashion. It misrepresents what one said, and is not applicable.

Firstly, the moderators and administrator have always demonstrated that they will discipline posters for their beliefs if they're outrageous. Someone posting something outright racist or homophobic is certain to be moderated. It's the de facto way of these forums (the internet, and the world) that those that run them will not follow the rules to the letter. It really doesn't matter what language you use, vulgar or not, racists and homophobes will be eventually moderated.

Your original comment was thus:

"No, and this topic has been raised previously. If I do not like a thread, I do not read it. My position on the ickiness of the subject matter is on the public record, and I am a well known advocate of the "Just Say NO! to Girls" campaign.

Opinions are like servants: everyone has them, but you don't want them coming in and talking to your guests in the drawing room."

My original comment is just taking the train of thought in the post I originally quoted to where it eventually goes. If you wish to add something to that original post, too late.

As a side note: Just Say NO! to Girls? Have you retired your manhood?

I personally don't go to the Babe thread because of:

1. Not my taste. I went there twice, and none I personally found attractive.
2. I know (personally in RL) cuter girls.

I have no problem, as a man, with the hunk thread - I even posted a picture there once. But that guy wasn't nearly as hot as me . . .

Of course I have no problem with the Babe thread, I have posted a lot there. And if you read the responses to my pictures, you see that a lot of people don't seem to agree with my idea of "hot" and sometimes complain about it; my pictures are never degrading in any way, they are of women I find beautiful in one way or another. Some are of athletes performing; others of actresses or musicians performing, or publicity shots, or whatever. But given that I got all the pictures off the internet in the first place, and that all these women agreed to have their pictures taken, I see no problem.

It just needs classier poses, that's all...like the few that I've posted (er, ignore that Cheryl Tiegs one in a previous babe thread).

It doesn't particularly bother me, though I find the use of the  smily in it somewhat disturbing...

Being sluttish is awesome.
Selling bodies is waaack

Nope, i dont find it degrading. Whats wrong with apprecaition of human body ? Were the girls degrading themselves ?? Some guys will want to have a pretty wife. Should they wrap them up anyway ?? or if they shouldnt wear bikinis to beach ?? or 1 piece ??

Neither will i have problem with a Hunk thread. At most i wont really take a look into it. Coz its isnt anything interesting to me.

Likewise with military weapon thread, or thread about different kind of medevil weapons, or even torturing equipments. i dont feel anything about those too.

Kudos to all those contributed to the babe thread. thou i rarely went in also due to the large bandwith constraint and long loading time. Will be better if most pics are kept at 800x600 :D

OK Newsflash for the "selling bodies is morally reprehensible" crowd, beauty is used as a economic commodity all over our society. In every magazine, advertisement, movie, music, ect, ect. The list is bloody endless. If you really object to any of this I think the Babe Thread in a* relatively obscure forum is the least of your troubles.

Yet the 'Hunk' thread didn't reduce the number of males viewing CFC IIRC.

*Forgive Me :(

Yup. I do suspect, .shane., that you're just a second user name that I'm posting under to add credibility to my views. Or I'm just your second username. Whichever. :crazyeye:

Anyway, I agree.

Full details are available from your local branch of the Ministry for Women and Other Alien Species or from a nearby pack of the Junior Anti-Sex League.
The basic gist of it is encouraging young boys and other genders to resist the wicked whiles of the female species and to pledge their troth to that matter.

Activities involve shrieking and running away; telling strange stories about mythical beasts, including women; amusing chalk sketches; pageboy service in a Sacred Band; avoiding all female company; cold showers; long hikes through the Westerwald wearing short shorts and singing heartily in a variety of Northern European languages; good hard healthy games and mock combat; pledging loyalty to the Leader; colouring-in competitions; collectable cards and gender appropriate troll dolls; picketing countries and continents that are suspected of possession of WMD (Women of Monthly Disturbance); and supporting public lectures by Rear-Admiral Sir Vincent Smythe-Oppelson (Rtd Commander of the 3rd Lancashire Airborne Boys Salon) on such fascinating topics as "The Enemy and How to Recognize Her" and "Beware of Lipstick!"

Our motto:

Attraction to women, however, repellent as it may be to persons of sensibility, is not in itself a crime. But it bally well should be!

In otherwords, the Homosexual Nerd Scout Club?

(no offence is intended)

I like the hot babe thread the way it is.

I think you may be on to something...

Come to think of it, the number of male posters in CFCOT has only increased, so one can unreasonably assume that if we keep the babe thread going, the population of female posters will increase as well, hopefully at the same percentage rate as the males, eventually overtaking males.

The degredation -or beauty- is in the eye of the beholder. As long as it conforms to forum rules (which are based on the laws of public decency), then it's just a part of life. Look at it, or look away.
