Dobson Divorces Self From the Truth

Amazing how they'll twist and turn for this guy.

@ colontos:

I don't think colontos is a sane person; at least that's my impression.

Please take no offense, just musing.

Tempted to tell you to keep up or shut up, since it's been 5 days since I posted in this thread, but it's all good I guess.

It's your right to doubt my sanity; it doesn't particularly bother me. But is doubting that someone is a Christian the same as doubting someone's sanity? I'm not sure that that's a parallel you'd want to make.

Well it is questioning (or musing) about a quality of yours that you are likely to hold a strong opinion on. Thompson likely thinks he is a christian in the same way that you think you are sane.

When someone comes along and says, "I don't think so and so is a christian," it is a pretty bold statement. Especially if based on the flimsy evidence of not seeing or hearing any comment from the person to the contrary.

Simply put, Dobson made a flat out judgement that says, "Since he doesn't profess his faith to the standard I believe a real christian should, I shall publicly claim he isn't a christian. And yes, I do have the grounding to determine who is and isn't a real christian and then apply it to christians in general."

I work across the hall from someone who hosts bible study in her house, goes to church regularly, and has bible.com in her favorites. Yet she never makes comments regarding her christianity. In Dobson's world, is she not a christian?

And I don't doubt your sanity. I don't have anywhere near enough evidence to make such a serious claim in a public setting for real.

Maybe Dobson was onto something. According to the Pat Robertson/Jerry Falwell school of theo-illogical thought, God punishes people for not being Christian by afflicting them with diseases (AIDS) and disasters (9/11, Hurricane Katrina):

Fred Thompson, the potential presidential candidate better known as television's gruff "Law & Order" district attorney, said Wednesday he was diagnosed with lymphoma more than two years ago but the cancer shouldn't affect his life expectancy.

I wonder if people bashing John Edwards for staying in the race despite his wife having treatable, but not curable cancer will call for Fred Thompson not to jump into the race.
