Tempted to tell you to keep up or shut up, since it's been 5 days since I posted in this thread, but it's all good I guess.
It's your right to doubt my sanity; it doesn't particularly bother me. But is doubting that someone is a Christian the same as doubting someone's sanity? I'm not sure that that's a parallel you'd want to make.
Well it is questioning (or musing) about a quality of yours that you are likely to hold a strong opinion on. Thompson likely thinks he is a christian in the same way that you think you are sane.
When someone comes along and says, "I don't think so and so is a christian," it is a pretty bold statement. Especially if based on the flimsy evidence of not seeing or hearing any comment from the person to the contrary.
Simply put, Dobson made a flat out judgement that says, "Since he doesn't profess his faith to the standard I believe a
real christian should, I shall publicly claim he isn't a christian. And yes, I do have the grounding to determine who is and isn't a
real christian and then apply it to christians in general."
I work across the hall from someone who hosts bible study in her house, goes to church regularly, and has bible.com in her favorites. Yet she never makes comments regarding her christianity. In Dobson's world, is she not a christian?
And I don't doubt your sanity. I don't have anywhere near enough evidence to make such a serious claim in a public setting for real.
