Does NOT joining the Armed forces make you a coward?

The army is not about dying for your country, but killing for it.
Some people may prefer to choose the option of helping people instead.

Or, like me, they could just take whatever profession they enjoy.

Im exaggerating, but yeah, many would sit on their rumps complaining while others are fighting. DOn't be naiive.
Well target your opinion against those who choose not to do any work (though even then, sitting on your rump is often preferable to killing people).

Others would disagree. Just because you oppose a war does not mean the war is not justified.
And just because a government goes to war doesn't mean it is justified.

Did I say exclusevely to defend against invasion? No. AMerican freedom and other countries' freedom and liberties were at stake, thus our govt. made the choice to deem the draft necessary. Usually the govt. knows a heck of a lot more of what is going on than you do. They learn about situations developing throughout the world a heck of a lot sooner than we do. This is hardly about the Vietnam War, except the draft so lets stay on topic. I trust the govt. to make a wise decision when the draft is needed.
"except the draft"? The draft is what we're talking about, so of course it's relevant as an example.

If the US or UK Government knows more than we do, they're not yet showing signs of doing better with that information, if recent wars are anything to go by.

And yes I agree that wars are sometimes justified not just to save against your own country being invaded. But surely people should decide themselves whether to fight? How is it right for person A to think a war must be fought, and then for person A to force person B to fight, even though person B may be against the war, and whilst person A sits nicely at home ("on their rump", as you might say...)?

My brother is in the Army. He said if i don't join the Army that makes me a coward and every one not in the Army is a coward and a non American. I don't think i need to join the Army to prove anything. What do you all think? He also said we will all die someday why not do it for you country? Can't we live for our country? Not die for it? He has really changed since he joined..

I actually have a brother who is a Marine who is making a lot of effort to convince me not to become a Marine.

If you don't want to join then you shouldn't. Your not a coward if you don't

The best answer yet, concerning the source. Wise beyond years...

Same here, also dad too. They hate Rumsfield.

How can some one who is a fireman or a policeman and so on be considered a coward just because there not in the army sounds a bit of a stupid idea to me.

Not doing something that other people expect of you can often be the bravest thing in the world.
