Does NOT joining the Armed forces make you a coward?

quote from bloodofages
"War is good only in books, movies and video games. Thats what i think."

You are wise beyond your years(wait, i hope im older thanyou),but agreed, your brother is an idiot. Idiots join the army and get shot at to be a "real man", smart people stay at home and somehow, in some way live with being a coward.

I hope you didn't just imply that my grandfather, who fled Italy, then joined the war to protect the Jewish people, was a bloodmonger.

@bloodofages
Spoiler :

I am English. I used to live in the Netherlands and the USA. These are my opinions of all three:

Technically the Netherlands is very liberal, secure and very clean. A dominant portion of Dutch families are Catholics which inherently prevents widespread abuse of liberty, but this actually makes life very secure & relaxing for non-Catholics too.

The UK offers political freedom but it is more secular and thus less safe. It is traditional but continually changing: familiarity with age-old tradition (i.e. Red Coat displays, Coronations, &c.) makes British people forge new traditions readily (i.e. Live Aid, Red Nose Day, &c.) - but there is widespread ignorance of this being their national identity.

The US is cultured through formal education (or school-sponsored activities) and the population does not tolerate national criticism well. There is a lot of flag waving, a lot of bureaucracy, and strong belief in a god-given right to live in comfort to the detriment of health.

Ofcourse, I have not lived everywhere in every nation and my perspective is shaped by the people I met:

USA: Florida (south)
UK: England (south)
NL: Nord Brabant

Your in Isreal ?

Service is compulsory and is three years for citizens ?
one year for others ? (has this changed)

Rik, I figured that because there is no way they would have contributed to Amsterdam's reputation - that is also the primary reason for my little note at the bottom ;)

I can tell you what it doesn't make you. It doesn't make you a dead body in some desert thousands of miles away fighting a war that has nothing to do with protecting Americans and in fact is killing and will kill more Americans, in the end.

However, no. If you are not joining cause you are a coward, then, well, you're a coward, but if there are other reasons, then no.

Yeah, a "real man", the context tells me real man means dumb, hate-filled and thoroughly violent. I disagree.

simply tell him this...

call him a baby killer, tell him how much of a murderer he is for his crimes aginst humanity, call him a trator to life and tell him about all the unjustices he stands for

Then watch as the military tough guy pounds your pasty nerd ass in. I wouldn't be to quick to say something like that, I've seen your pictures in the picture thread, you wouldn't say something like that to a soldiers face.

its not realy what i bleave, i honestly dont think ther baby tillers or any of that, im just givieng him a lil something to say to counter his brothers clames.

i realy think this thread, and the hole thing is just so... futile in a way... realy, who his he to make those clames to his brother... if u ask me what the problem is its not that hes a baby killer or a murderer, its more that his brother is an ass

I see, we agree.

lol, sorry about that tho.... i know im a wierd persion, but its probly cus im a artys fartys type guy....... realy... just ignore your bother.. he has no right to make those clames. u dont need to deal with that, and it defentaly dosent make u a cowered to be afraed to go to war*thats if u are* i whold be, u chold die, lose a limb, get disabled ect ect ect.. and to not sapourt the war is not unpariotic or makes u a tratior.. your brother is much more of a trator becus he is not sapourting the democratic ideals he vowed to protect by his very statements... your not the one with the problem, your brother is..

I have the greatest respect for everyone who refuses to serve in the army.

Now that is a just the dumbist statement I've heard all day. I could go on for hours, but I'll just leave at this unless you need some comments to get him with.

EDIT: Well, reading this thread I found an even dumber statement. Wondered if someone would go below the level of your dumb@$$ brother, and yes, they did. This is not multiplication, but addition. ;) Two dumb@$$es are twice as bad, not good.

simply tell him this...

call him a baby killer, tell him how much of a murderer he is for his crimes aginst humanity, call him a trator to life and tell him about all the unjustices he stands for

EDIT2: Found another quote just as dumb as your brothers. Remember, there are all kinds of stupidity out there. Your brother's quote ranks up there with these.

You are not a coward if you refuse to join the army. You're an idiot most likely if you do. There are soooooooooooo many better ways to serve your country - and the world.

Personaly, I beleve that is an ignorant remark since not joining the armed forces does not make you less of an American nor makes you a coward. You are in control of your own destiny, not your brother. You dont need to joined the armed forces to prove something. Its true that we will all die someday, but that is decades ahead of us and no reason to worry about it.

Bloodofages, you are in control of your own faith and yours alone. No one should tell you otherwise and/or discurage you. If calls you a coward, just respectfully tell him why you dont want to join the armed forces.

I personaly have respect for people who dont wish to join the armed forces, whether its political, religious, or other personal reasons :).

Not everyone wants to stay in America. Other people move from america to other nations. Just cause i born in America does not mean i have to live here for the rest of my life. Besides i want to see the world.

A neat way to see the world is working for the State Deptartment.
