Check my post where I linked to some good guides Iggy. Also look up the youtube "Dwarf Fotress Break" series, as it helps alot even if it's kinda slow.

I actually would advise you to not follow anything that guy says. His planning is terrible. Do not use those videos as guides.

20th Opal, 1056 Mid-Winter

As I write this the miners are digging through a gold vein. We should have enough gold to finally make some decent things around here. The metalsmiths told me they made several bars of black bronze, this stuff is amazing. The color is deep. I ordered a black bronzes chest for my office. I hope to one day decorate the arena floor with black bronze and gold.

Addendum: Another one of those foolish guards died today, he was sparing with the champion guard, Shadowjump. Tis the third one he has killed. Nothing I can do about, not being the mayor anymore.

The Elves sent a diplomat today, I met with him and his words were not kind.

"How dare you chop the beautiful forests down!" he said.

"Hey buddy, I'm not your dwarf. There is a dwarf downstairs in the barracks, by the name of Sparrow. He single handedly chopped down all the trees because he wanted to. So if you send an army, fight him."

And so the rat weed smoking, long haired, treehugging elf believed me and went on his way.
