Trump and Putin are a winning couple for many.

What matters is relatuve recent change: how much he has eaten away at the old DP predominance other those strata of the population. A lot.
That was the impression I got from the media too, that "poor White folks" were frustrated by the Democrats, their inaction, their defense of the neoliberal status quo, and their empty identity politics. But looking at the statistics, there has been a slight change in votes, but it is not very impressive. Looking back at the elections from the 90s and 00s, it seems like Democrats reliably got between 50 and 60% of the votes of the "lower class", which is quite similar to the elections featuring Trump. Tho, it is true that for some of those years, a higher proportion of the total vote share was "eaten" by third party candidates.

What is surprising too, is that there was lots of media discourse during the Obama years about "poor white folks" voting Republican out of racism. But Obama increased the lower class voter share of the party to 60-70s%. I guess his message about change resonated with people. It is no wonder some felt disillusioned afterward. And while poor Whites might have drifted toward the Republican Party during the Obama-Trump-Biden years, minorities are still overrepresented in the lower class. And while some minorities are drifting a bit away from the Democratic Party, most are still voting overwhelmingly Democrat. As minorities increase as a proportion of the total population, it seems unlikely that Trump will "have the votes" of the lower class anytime soon as suggested here.

can't vote in the US election and with "no dog in the fight"
That's not true. Our sovereign debt is incurred in your currency and your federal government decides on the price of our liabilities. Between that, trade sanctions, trade treaties, military occupation bases, and more, whom you pick as your next leader is of great importance to us.

It's not a dodge, Sommer. Try wondering if you care who is prime minister in Greece, and you may stop marveling that I am indifferent to who is leader in yours.
I am happy that the election isn't far away, though, since it will put an end to pending-election brainrot online.

I see this as more of a possibility if Harris wins.

If Trump wins, things are gonna get weird and I cannot possibly predict how they'll go. Trump's willingness and ability to do the more extreme things he's mentioned are questions yet to be answered, but are sure to create an absolute deluge of American political news worldwide as we'd move forward.

A Harris win OTOH would have people briefly pondering whether this would be the end of MAGA(unsure), though this news would be much less frequent. She's more conventional.

If you want less American politics on CFC and Reddit, Harris is the better of the two.

It will be regular brainrot then, the election being over. Think of it as the rising anxiety of a vagabond when a train is passing; he can't board it anyway, but it symbolizes movement so there's a fleeting excitement. Train gone=>back to a sedated version.

That's Christmas, for me.

Trump will prolong US political anxiety for as long as possible whether he loses or wins. His goal is and always has been to personally benefit from everything he touches without regard for the impact on others.

Federal emergency response officials trying to help North Carolina after Helene have been relocated after being threatened by "armed militias".

It's what he calls "the weave" (and what other people call dementia) (and what he has named "the weave" so as to put a positive spin on dementia).

His mind just drifts from one topic to the next.

If you want the chain of associations, it's this:

Stopping the outflow of manufacturing jobs is simple
Not like getting a rocket engine to land in a small predesignated circle in the ocean as Musk has done with his space ships
Those circles in the ocean remind me of the circles drawn on the pavement for Biden's rallies during Covid to enforce social distancing:

Even with that excuse for small crowd sizes, he couldn't fill all circles without asking the press to sit in them, whereas my rallies were huge
There's no way a person with larger rallies can lose an election to a person with smaller rallies.

Trump labels political opposition 'more dangerous than China, Russia'

In an interview aired on Sunday by Fox News, Donald Trump labelled Americans who oppose him as "radical-left lunatics" and "the enemy from within".

"I always say, we have two enemies," Trump said.

"We have the outside enemy, and then we have the enemy from within, and the enemy from within, in my opinion, is more dangerous than China, Russia and all these countries."

In the pre-recorded interview, Trump said he didn't expect anyone who voted for him to cause unrest on election day, and suggested using the National Guard or even military force to "handle" any situation that might occur in his opposition.

On 6 January, 2021, Trump's supporters attacked the US Capitol building in an effort to stop Joe Biden becoming president.

In the recent vice-presidential debate, Trump's running mate JD Vance insisted that Trump had only said that "protesters ought to protest peacefully" in his speech before the Capitol riot.

Mike Johnson Says It's 'Unnecessary' For Trump To Release His Medical Records

"Trump's health is on display," the House speaker said. "Everyone in America can see it. The man works nonstop."

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) on Sunday claimed Vice President Kamala Harris’ move to share her medical information with the public is a “diversion” tactic, adding that it’s “unnecessary” for former President Donald Trump to release more details about his own health. The White House on Saturday shared a memo authored by Harris’ physician, Joshua Simmons, detailing her current health status and medical history.

“Harris remains in excellent health,” Simmons wrote. “She possesses the physical and mental resiliency required to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief.”
Harris’ disclosure, which marks the first time she has released medical information in this race, appears to be part of an effort to pressure Trump to do the same.

While Trump previously told CBS News he would “very gladly” release his medical records, he has yet to do so. In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Johnson, a closely ally of the former president, said Trump has released enough information about his health.

“He issued the records of his physicians,” Johnson said. “Kamala Harris issued her medical records as a diversion because she’s desperate, because she’s sinking in the polls. Donald Trump’s health is on display. Everyone in America can see it. The man works nonstop. He never quits. He probably sleeps four hours a night. He doesn’t require as much sleep as the average person.” “He’s an unusual figure. And this is the strength that we need in a time like this,” he added.
While there is no requirement for presidential candidates to share their medical history, it has been customary for them do so.

Following the release of the document on Harris’ health, Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung pointed reporters to two memos authored by Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), a Trump supporter who also served as his physician during his time at the White House, that stated the former president was “doing well” following his first assassination attempt in July. Cheung also recirculated a letter from Trump’s personal physician, Bruce Aronwald, dated November 2023, noting that his “overall health is excellent” and that his cognitive exams were “exceptional.”

Johnson told NBC “it’s unnecessary” for Trump, 78, to be more transparent on the issue despite the fact that if elected in November he would be the oldest person to serve in the role.
“The American people don’t care about the cholesterol level of Donald Trump,” he said. “The medical records are irrelevant.”

Meanwhile, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), who was part of Trump’s inner circle during his presidency, told The New York Times the GOP nominee is displaying “significant” signs of a decline in his cognitive skills.
“What masks it is that he is still physically pretty vibrant and energetic, unlike [President Joe Biden],” Christie said. “But if you listen to him and his ability to make a point, it’s not nearly as good now as it was in 2016, not nearly.”

I really fear Dump will win, ~50% of humanity are that boneheaded..
it's the same story in smaller here.
Far right & left are closing in on numbers where just ignoring them won't work anymore.

They have no party program but that only matters for some people.
Dump also has no plan other than (as BJ already wrote) his own "legacy" and narcissistic disorder.

It is perfectly possible to be both extremely healthy and completely crazy!

I am still wondering about the tariffs business, and whether the threat of it is real.

China holds several sectors of USA economy hostage, having several monopolies in raw materials, integrated circuit production, and, of course, the hot & modern one - battery business is almost entirely monopolised by the Chinese. Then there is the balance of trade. At the beginning of 2023 China imported $177bn worth of goods from USA, and exported $577bn worth of goods to the USA. Which clearly points to the fact that the Chinese are the ones who can threaten, if they choose to. USA can't. So, Trump team obviously got the memo, yet still, they are pushing this "let's punish the Chinese cause we can" program despite knowing full well that threatening the Chinese with economic weapons is laughable. I think Trump is using Sinophobia to get into the White House, but the follow through will be insignificant, symbolic. I think the Chinese leadership is savvy enough to grasp that, also they don't mind a crazy old man have his revolution and harm America in the process.

It seems the Trump-Elon campaign is paying people to go round and knock on the door of rural low propensity trump voters. To do it they made one of these worker-big-brother apps, that tracks everything they do. However they assumed that everywhere has super high speed mobile internet, and if it does not have it it falls back to an off line system. Of course as soon as one is freed from an oppressive tracking system you will skive off loads more than if it never existed, so people are “speed-running” routes where they literally throw campaign materials at doors as they drive past.

It wasn't directed at you. I was making a joke about folks regularly posting in the US election thread, but then dodging the question by claiming that they "don't care because they aren't in the US" when asked to weigh in on who they would like to see win the US election. I fully understand that the US has an impact worldwide, so folks in other countries will be interested in the POTUS election. So I get that folks outside of the US care, and I'm just poking fun at folks using the "I'm not in the US" excuse to pretend that they don't care, whenever posed with a question they don't want to answer about US politics.

You're right that I don't put much, or any thought into who wins Prime Minister in Greece. If we had a Greece Election Thread, I probably would not post in it. But that's the point of the joke I was making... you post in the US Election thread, mostly attacking the Democratic candidate, whoever that might be, but when I jokingly poke at you and ask you to declare who you'd like to see win the US election, you filibuster and dodge and try to avoid just saying the obvious, which seems to be that you just don't like US Democrats POTUS candidates and you prefer whoever is in opposition to the Democrats' POTUS candidate, more particularly, Trump in this case. That's fine, lots of people prefer Trump, he's entertaining, he's irreverent, he's a showman, he's selling populism, etc.

Again, I'm just joking with you.:) Which candidate you prefer doesn't really matter, because, as you've pointed out, you can't vote in the US election anyway.:p
