Explain why your country is better than the US

Can some, explain to me, why we feel it necessary to say one country is better than the other?

Smacks of arragance...
oh, but from time to time a good chest-thumping "my daddy's stronger than yours" is so much fun :D

anyway, I won't personally go into this we're better than you, but there are some things I think are better in Switzerland.

Partial Direct Democracy - We actually get a say in politics instead of just getting to choose who's gonna screw us over.
Multi Party System just because :p
Religion thankfully it plays a very minor role in politics
Cheese frankly, your cheese doesn't deserve the name, especially not if you call it "swiss"
History we made it on Lotus' list of countries older than you :p

there are however quite a few things I envy you for:
Diverse Geography you've got it all
Diverse Population see above
No conscription :(

Swizterland is also very diverse: you have mountains, and at the opposite you also have valleys.

right, that's it, enough's enough. we'll pull out our occupying forces in Liechtenstein and invade France....we want our "Platz an der Sonne" :mischief:

Britian is better because we never feel the need to seek the adoration of foreigners.

And England has Wigan in it so...

It doesn't really make sense for you to compare tiny countries like Denmark or Netherlands to a country as vast as the USA. States here are very different from each other, places like Massachusets are more liberal than some parts of Europe. Its just like clumping all of Europe together as a whole even.

Yes it does.

Small countries are better then USA because of the advatages of being small. :p

I thought that this was purely informative. It seems to me that many Americans don't understand why foreign people think their country is better (after all Americans can back up their claims with the unrefutable "Because this is America!" ;)). I don't personally think myself as a member of Finnish society, and don't therefore have any reasons to argue in favour of Finland just to "win". Actually Schwitzerland would maybe be the number one country where I'd like to live.

Partial Direct Democracy

That's maybe the best thing in Schwitzerland, but on the other hand you had very recently cantons where women couldn't vote, didn't you?

Finland sucks in this respect too, but you at least seem to be more coherent in keeping it stictly self defence (all though I don't understand how self defence can be obligatory ;))

These threads would be quite fun if they had more tongue in cheek humour. There are far too many 'patriots' around here though.

I honestly couldn't give a **** what someone else thinks of Britian. I suppose arrogance like that only comes with the legacy of Empire :smug:

Besides, I'll just repeat what I've said in another thread:
In fact, someone should compile a list of nations that have remained intact politically as they currently stand, which are older than the USA. If your gov't type evolves on it's own (Britain, Russia, etc.) we'll count that. But, if you completely disappear off the map for a period of time, are conquered, 'spun off' from another nation, absorbed, annexed & reformed, etc., that 'resets' your date.
We have a rather fetching potted plant which is a similar age to the US.
USA is better because when you guys are losing, we help.
You're new aren't you? :dubious:

Wait a minute. If the American government actually gave a damn about what the other people thought, the US would be less likely to attack other countries. It's the warmonger conservatives who are saying, "To hell with world opinion."

Yes, that was a serious answer from me, unlike my other posts in this thread.

Fair enough. I would expect my own Government to listen to the concerns of others also. I just don't think that Bush or Blair read CFC too often.

Although they may have a different login. There are a number of people who I'm suspicious of :dubious:

We're as good as the US. Only smaller, so per square feet we rock them like a hurricane, but as a sum, we're equal :)

past is past. It doesn't matter anymore. We know that we are slow in political movement. But that comes with Direct Democracy. At least, we won't get screwed (see Bush or Britains political system). And a small addition to women suffrage: The canton was Appenzell-Innerrhoden and has 18'000 inhabitants, number decreasing... (now this is no excuse, but you can probably state that your mountain peasants are totally over-the-top conservative too ;), compare it to Wyoming or whatever...)

mick

PS: Switzerland is better because atm the sun is shining and spring is coming in full speed. ;)

France is better because we have:

- fancy words to make trivial things sound upscale and educated
- delusions of grandeur (see? what a smartass way to say we're frustrated whiners)
- a good dose of irony and sarcasm (that was part of the "we'll make you a WW2 winner even though you thoroughly lost because you're such a frustrated whiner and I want it to stop" package, thanks FDR!)
- when we lose, it's the stuff
of legends
