Georgia finally engages in a war

Bold - it was a joke.

Underline - Joke again. I didn't mean it litterally. To bad you couldn't see it. (with the awww and the "mean evil georgian").

Being heated about issues is part of the process, non? ;)

Hahah,. Please try to look at it from both sides, its not that simple.
It is that simple

Russians were already there, everyone agreed for them to be there to maintain the peace between Georgians and people who do absolutely not want to be Georgians but ended up there after the collapse of the USSR.
So they invaded when they were all ready there. Makes for an easy invasion when some one has all ready let you in.

What were they supposed to do when Georgia suddenly invaded then?
Invaded who? Was Georgia going to invade Russia? Or do you mean Georgia invading Georgia?
Just walk away? Remember, Russian peacekeepers have been killed by the Georgian army already aswell as hundreds of civilians.
Those poor peacekeepers who weren't keeping the peace. Its nice they had that convenient Russian back up so close. Maybe they should have shot down some more unarmed drones to keep the peace.

Poor little Russia.

Russia troops had only small arms.

Does that "small arms" include MiGs equipped with air to air rockets to blow unarmed drones out of the sky?

Those planes came from inside the Russian Federation (EDIT: if they did. I misread that you were talking about Russian MiGs engaging Georgian targets today) I am talking about troops on the ground.

I hereby demand that the country of Georgia rename its Anglicization to Kartvelia to not confuse me that the US is in a civil war again.

Rebels who have received Russian passports only for you to be able to call them Russian citizens. Hypocrisy at its best.

Doesn't matter why, more than 90% of Osettians willingly took Russian citizenship. It should be clear whether they want Georgian army in Osettia or not.

You Russians seem to think that South Ossetia is already independent, and it's ok for you to help them.

Well, it's still part of Georgia. Regardless if they have Russian Paszport's or not.

Ossetia/Alania has been part of Georgia for like, the past 1000 years or so, before the nationalism disease took over. Ossetia, you had your chance at a nation when you were the Sarmatians ruling the steppes. You lost it when the Goths came in and you became an insignificant Caucasian nation like the rest of the 4353243 languages there.

It would just be stupid to have these insignificant peoples have their own nations.

So that would be a no. The MiGs that shot down the drones were not small arms.

Bah, Russia should just annex the whole of Georgia back as a province and be done with it. What's the rest of the world going to do? I'm tired of hearing about stupid power games in the Caucasus. The place was part of the russian empire for over 300 years, it has no modern history as an independent nation, and was basically fabricated as one now.

(much like most of the world's nations that popped up during the past century, I admit - and now it turns out they're banding together again, at least in Europe, after a couple of world wars)

So that would be a no. The MiGs that shot down the drones were not small arms.

Cant you read? There are no Russian airforce bases in South Ossetia. Russian planes are based on Russian soil.

Regardless of that Georgians have killed Russian citizens and Russian allies. Russia cannot sit on its hands.

Russia kills itself more with alcohol every day.

So, if the EU offered people in Petrograd (or how it's called now) EU citizenship and they accepted it, it could then legally annex the city? Or set up a puppet separatist government there? :p

It's totally irrelevant that you gave the people there citizenship, it gives you no right to meddle into Georgian internal matter. Funny that the Russians angrily rejected any foreign (verbal!) meddling into their little war in Chechnya, but they happily do that to others.

Russian Hypocritic Federation, that should be the name of the country.

Just like Finland. They should invade that pathetic country and be done with it. What's the rest of the world going to do? :p The place was a part of the Russian empire for centuries and it has no real history as an independent nation. :crazyeye:

I hate to play Devil's advocate here, but the US did invade Grenada to protect American lives back in the 1980s.

Yes I can read. It doesn't matter where the bases are. The "peace keepers" have airforce capability from Russia as evident when Air to air weapons were used against an unarmed drone and those are not small arms.

And we must all follow Americas example?
Trust me, "the US did it" is never a good argument in Europe.

The people who were part of the former Soviet Union or the former Eastern Block understand Russian motives more than the "Old Western People". Russians are not on same level as England, France, Germany or United States. They are 1-2 centuries back due the October Revolution. Estonians, Latvians or Lithuanians ... or Ukrainians and Georgians see the conflict in far different point of view than Russians. They know how bastards the Russians(Read : Their Government) are. Putin is former KGB agent and Medvedev has his eggs on Putin's hands. So what Medvedev says means that Putin have told that. In Bronze Night Russians insulted a lot of Estonian people when They waved Red Flags in the Bronze Soldier Square while Bronze Soldier is a symbol of Russian Occupants and killers in WWII. The argument that Russians liberated Estonians from Nazi Germany is . .. .. .. .. .. .. .. . because they didn't withdraw from Baltics, they occupied us during the 1991 when Soviet Union Collapsed. In Estonia we have the province "Ida-Virumaa" what means Eastern-Virumaa where live a lot of Russians. In City of Narva there are about 4% Estonians only because after Bombardment of Narva in 6.03.1944 when Narva is almost Destroyed as Dresden in WW2. Estonians weren't allowed to move back to Narva, Russians settled it and now the Majority of citizens are Russians. Now it has same dangers as South-Ossetia has now. Russians have interests that South-Ossetia will separate from Georgia and then will join with Russia. The Russians will not see South-Ossetia as a fully independent country who doesn't obey Russian commands.

Russia have not fully freedom of speech, no freedom in media, so Russia will have very hard times to be as reliable than western countries. Until they have such backward leaders as they have now, we cant take their sources as pure gold. They have always their own imperialistic interests.
