GodNES - The Beast with a Thousand Backs

I envisioned Ceradus forming over time, his formation beginning at the moment of Afaja's death. His 'birth' would have been triggered by the sheer importance of that one moment in time.

On another note, I'd like to apologize for not being as involved in this thread thus far. I've been food poisoned, and have spent most of my time worshiping the porcelain god.

To me, Jarquin was not 'born', per se, but was created when luck became relevant. As such, he is not a being to be created, but a physical embodiment of a natural force. Until enough factors were in play (i.e. the gods), there was no luck and no change because no one was doing anything., but once the turtle died and the world went to hell, he appeared.

@Tsoate: Because you only wrote your name, and said that you were the sum of all things evil. I think that you need to fill out the application on the first page!

@Everyone: After some sleep, I think I've come up with a few categories that fit us all fairly well. The layout here is:

God's Name (Origin/Realm)

Scions of Afaja: Born from the Physical Matter of Afaja, while it was still intact. These deities are:
Curator (Dying Breath/Memory)
Solonos (Right Eye/Sun)
Borog (Shadow/Fear and Darkness)
Merphous (Blood/Passion)
Thwapp (Skin/Annoyance)
Mazus Klein (Dust/Dryness)
Juntin (Intestines/Forest)
Sythus (Heart/War and Honour)

Now we have another group closely associated with the Demon Chelonian.

Aetherials of Afaja: Born from the thoughts and mind of Afaja. These deities are named, and formed from:
Zaephta (Mind/Death)
Gnontia (Awareness/Wisdom)
Nargot (Life Force/Sky)
Sejesse (Mind/Charisma and Mischief)

It seems quite likely that each of these deities were each formed from different parts of Afaja's mind, or perhaps different individual thoughts.

Primordial Offspring: Born from the Primordial Muck, the matter that Afaja disintegrated into after his death. These deities lack an unbroken link back to the demon turtle. Alternatively, they can be thought of as creating themselves from non-living matter.
Lafindreeth (Primordial Muck/Chaos and Individuality)
Artharax (Primordial Muck/Order and Law)

Aetherials: Born out of no matter at all, upon the death of Afaja. If a deity is not explicitly stated to be born of Afaja, then they are assumed to have materialized out of the void.
Primanus (Aether/Life)
Ceradus (Aether/Time)
Kylmyys (Aether/Cold)
Greyti (Aether/Sea)
Magrastuur (Aether/Tricks and Deep Thought)
Tsamnir (Aether/Opposites)
Malek Bal (Aether/Dominion)
Madris (Aether/Home)
Ballestoniormelatimusty (Aether/Alcohol and Parties)
Jarquin (Aether/Luck and Fate)
Higen (Aether/Disease and Healing)
Evyera (Aether/Moon)
Arastor (Aether/Storm)

Children: Born by the will of another God, or through the pairing of multiple gods.
Adur Oheder (Child of the Sun/Fire)
Rintrah (Child of the Sun/Fire and Shaping)

If we assume that the five primordials are Light, Dark, Life, Death and Time, then that would make two Scions of Afaja born from the Turtle's Substance (Solonos and Borog), one Aetherial of Afaja, formed from his thoughts (Zaephta), and two Aetherials, who formed from the void at the moment that Afaja died (Primanus and Ceradus). Thus, being a Primordial isn't so much dependent on a god's origin as it is dependent on their role. Based on this cosmology I'm developing, it seems like 'Primordial' is more of a title in a hierarchy than anything else.

Of course, Angst may have his own envisioning of who the five primordials are, this is just a proposal by me. :)

Wow, just realized how big of a player bas this NES has. If it dies due to player inactivity I will flip a table.

Angst has found a gap in a market! Although I understand that only a few players will make it into the first update. Looking forward to see how this shapes up, think it could be highly workable and lots of fun.

Disclaimer: I'm on my way to bed right now, so sorry if some of my sentences implode upon themselves. If so, I'll answer your confused faces tomorrow.

I would like to show my appreciation of Iggy's thoughtwork and the time he spent to make out a table. I currently have one such in my Book of the Dead, but it's quite inferior. I'm going to copy yours down into my book.

@Ophorian - Oh god man, I feel you. I've tried that. I hope you get better.

@Iggy and All: Regarding the process of selecting the Primordials, I must emphasize that I don't care much whether the god is of Afaja or the Void. Also, you are right in that the individual god's embodiment is important, but I must stress that I've taken the whole application into account. That means that I've also been thinking of its tone, creativity, interestingness, a little bit about thread participation, and how it would make for an interesting starting setting, at least subjectively.

The word "Primordial" was chosen because of its...tone rather than its concrete semantics. These first Five will be the first from whence the world sprouts, even if other gods may rise independently from the Five, the Five were the first, the fundamentals, the oldest gods. Primordial sounded fitting to me.

I've almost settled on the Primordials right now btw. It's still quite shaky, and I'm also arranging for second update arrivals, so people that want to join may still make it in. I'm going to close for submissions at Monday 4 pm gmt +1. Seriously, don't be late. I will not take your submission into account if you don't make it until then - I have waaay too much material at my hands to take into account to begin with. ;)

Perhaps a sneak peek before you go to bed?

Spoiler The Third Primordial :

Excellent work up their Iggy, a well honed classification system for all the gods in the NES.

I guess that that means that me and Artharax will be in constant struggle against one another?

Excerpts From Orod Nekarok, the Black Book

The Demon Chelonian

In the beginning, there was the Black Void. Within this darkness reigned the all-father, Afaja. Before him was nothingness. For a timeless age he reigned over the Abyssal. All of existence was contained within him.

It was an epoch of peace, an epoch of unity, an epoch ten thousand times and more greater in length than the age of our world, as we know it. It may have continued forever, until it was cut short by the scouring light.

The Strife of the Scions

The sun was born in an instant, and the Void burned. Afaja, he who was all, was slain by the usurper, his body collapsing to form the foundations of the earth. In this instant, the gods were born. From the flesh of Afaja were born the Scions. The three greatest of the scions were Solonos, Curator, and Borog; the Eye, the Breath, and the Shadow. Solonos looked upon the murderer of his father, and was at once taken by its searing heat and power. Thus did he initiate the first conflict amongst the gods, by taking the Sun as his mantle. Borog confronted Solonos, and the two brothers did battle. Dark and light fought one another in the Twilight Struggle. In these first days, the brothers were still young and evenly matched in strength. With neither able to vanquish the other, they retreated, and the world was divided between them. Ever would they cycle over the world, waxing and waning between night and day. So records Curator.

And somewhere during the battle, Thwapp is born. Or created. Or something.

Probably when Borog slapped Solonos and made a particular sound, maybe?

OOC: I approve.

The Tome of Laws said:
Verse 2

And as the First Sun blazed across Afaja's shell, and the Gods of Light and Dark did clash, there was nought in the Primordial Chaos but the Will. And this Will did storm across the Chaotic Soil, finding nought but raw Chaos and Emptiness before it. And the Will did say,
"There is nought but Chaos here, and none to tame it."

And the Will coalesced into the Primordial Soil of the Demon Turtle, and did embrace itself to the Chaos - and from this Will rose Artharax, the Lord of Order and the Giver of Laws, who's Will formed Himself and Smote the Chaos!

And Artharax said "THERE WILL BE ORDER!", and with nought but his Will did he smite the Chaos into his bidding. And he took the form of the Glowing Cloud, and from the Primordial Chaos did he make his Form in his service. And Artharax said, "I have Ordered the Chaos to my Will, and all shall follow my Laws as I lay them down."

And such was his Might, that no Chaos could stand before him afore the Birth of Lafindreeth the Chaotic.

I kind of interpreted Lafindreeth as kind of this reaction against Law, but thats up to Tycho really.

I would agree to Lafindreeth being a reaction of Chaos against Law/Order.

I most certainly hope that the five will be picked based on the overall quality of the application, rather than the embodiment :P

Edit: Totally unrelated to the above statement, I added a bit of story to my first turn action :D

Spoiler :
As I looked around, I could not help but feel unsatisfied with this... place. As the goddess of home, I ought to be able to feel at home almost everywhere in the world. Most likely not in the realm of another deity, but everywhere else in the world should be a place that I could view as something akin to home. However, that was not the case. Despite being a god of this world, I felt nothing but a weak connection to it.

Almost like a whisper in my head, a thought came to me. That I should claim part of the world, and shape it to somewhere where I might feel at home, and where I might give others a place to call home.
For that reason, I began thinking about how I should use my powers. What should I create? What kind of realm would I want?

Almost as soon as I asked myself that question, I had the answer; a realm where beings could find a home. Ideas and images flashed through my mind, almost like visions:

The first thought that came to my mind was a small mountain chain, where plant life would be scarce. The same would be true for the wildlife, but that could possibly be made up for by the fact that many of the potential creatures might regard entire mountains as their home.

The second idea that I had was to create a forest. Unlike the mountains, this would allow for plenty of trees, bushes, flowers, and more vegetation. With this idea, there would be plenty of food for creatures, as well as places where they might feel at home.

As I was weighing the up- and downsides to each idea, I drifted towards my second idea. Even while thinking about the benefits of mountain chains, I found that my mind was already planning the future of the… no, the future of my forest; the first place that I would be able to truly call home in this world.

Even as I was still planning, the landscape started to change around me. The earth grew fertile, and grass and flowers began to grow out from where I stood. Trees appeared around me, growing in a minute what would otherwise have taken a year, with bushes growing even quicker among them. A river appeared, starting not even a yard from my feet, and the earth gave away to the river as I looked at it.

The forest continued expanding, until green, brown, and blue was the only thing in my sight. I could not help but let a sigh of contentment escape me. This was my forest. This was my home.
