Best GOP Canidate?

This. I almost like Hunstman.

As far as tolerable figures in the Republican Party go...well...he's one of a few. He doesn't seem to have sold his soul to the hyper-right wing of the Republican Party yet. I'm giving him some time in the national spotlight before I pass judgment on him.

Independent isn't a party, for what reason can't you register to vote in the primaries?

Some states have closed primaries, and you may only vote in a primary if you are a registered member of that party. As an independent (small 'i' meaning unregistered, or as a member of a third party), you wouldn't be able to vote. I have been fortunate enough to live in open-primary states during the voting period of my life so I can vote in either Democratic or Republican primaries without joining the parties.

If I were actually Republican, Jon Huntsman.

If I weren't, Michelle Bachmann.
Huh?
MB is a huge republican... fits right into the mold. I know she has tea party behind her, but she's a far right republican.

Romney is still IMO the only one who actually seems to resemble anything presidential/reasonable.
Ditto.

Mitt Romney Result: amadeus votes Libertarian.
Secondary result - Obama wins re-election as people throw their vote in the abyss of nothingness.
Tim Pawlenty Result: amadeus votes Libertarian.
Secondary result - Obama wins re-election as people throw their vote in the abyss of nothingness.
Herman Cain Result: amadeus votes Libertarian.
Secondary result - Obama wins re-election as people throw their vote in the abyss of nothingness.
Sarah Palin Result: amadeus votes Libertarian.
Secondary result - Obama wins re-election, despite how you vote, she's utterly un-electable. You get to feel better for not having voted for either terrible option!
Ron Paul Result: amadeus votes GOP.
Secondary result - Obama wins re-election this guy has zero chance of winning due to several completely wackjob positions.
Rick Santorum Result: amadeus votes Libertarian.
See Palin
Michele Bachmann Result: amadeus reluctantly votes GOP.
Secondary result - Obama wins re-election as she is nothing more than Palin Lite.
Newt Gingrich Result: amadeus commits voter fraud and votes Libertarian twice.
Secondary result - Obama wins re-election either way.
Rick Perry Result: amadeus votes Libertarian.
Secondary result - Obama wins re-election as people throw their vote in the abyss of nothingness.

I find it a bit amusing that the consensus is that Downtown is the best candidate.
Why, this board is dominated by lefties.

Income up to and including $50,000 = 10%
Income over $50,000 = 25%
Corporate tax rate cut to 25%

Yep...
Yeah, that cuts out all loopholes, so, what is the problem? Everyone should pay SOMETHING. I would personally have another bracket... $500k/year and up, 40% tax.

Except, you know, being a governor from Texas. Governors from Texas don't have the best track records as president.
Ummm... based on the two Bushes? Or are you considering others?

And, for the record, Rick Perry is definitely not a Kenyan.

Have we seen Rick Perry's longform birth certificate yet? How can we really be sure without seeing that?

This might be the ideal time for the Republicans to split their party, to take the first step in ending the deadlock. Heck, Democrats could too.

2012 is going to Obama, so we might as well get some good out of it.

I think the idea is that a Bachmann candidacy would mean an Obama landslide.

Is there any incentive for the parties to do that though, or is it more of a hope?

Why won't he release even his short form birth certificate then? What is he hiding? He has been governor of my state for 10 years and has released less personal information than a kid needs to produce to play little league.

If I wanted a Republican to win, I would vote Huntsman.

If I wanted Obama to win, I would vote Bachmann.

I hope you can see what I'm shooting for...
Yes, good point.
Bachmann basically guarantees 4 more years for Obamalamadingdong.

Not just "heck no", HELL NO! Obama when it comes to his polls, Obama swims like a boulder. If the Republicans don't elect people who are easily viewed as 'fringe wackos' (i.e. Ron Paul, Bachman, etc.) or someone who pulls a McCain, then they have a very good chance of winning the White House. Splitting the party in two would be suicide. If they did, I'd haul out my Confederate flag and start planning how soon secession begins.

As for Huntsman, he's the Rudy Giuliani of this election. Since Gingrich is basically finished, the media needed a new loser to hype up. Huntsman just happened to be the loser they chose.

The parties, as organisations run by career politicos and bureaucratic machinery, would not benefit. The members of the parties and the US citizenry really would, though. Especially if both parties split

Admittingly, the GOP is suffering from what the Dems suffered from in 2008.

If one party split, the other party would dig out the rubber cement to make sure that their guaranteed victory wouldn't be squandered.

Obama is polling in a similar range that Clinton and Reagan did at this point in their Presidencies, so I guess we might be looking at a repeat of the President Mondale or President Dole administrations.

With the mention of third parties, I wouldn't mind seeing the Republican Party dissolve and split, preferably to a Conservative party and the Libertarian party. It's really to far gone and divided to be saved.

I would like the Green Party to rise and give lefties a choice other then the Democrats which are almost right wing.
