Gr7 - AWM vs 30 civs on a giant map

IBT : nada

1) 1725BC : Grabd River founded -> barracks
lower science a bit
GH gave us a map of the region

IBT : The Wheel is in, no horses in sight, set to Iron Working. We have many hills in the west, so maybe we are more lucky with iron

2) 1700BC : science up again

IBT : -

3) 1675BC : -

IBT : Mongols want to talk, bah no time
Salamanca builds barracks -> spearman
Niagara Falls builds spearman -> archer

4) 1650BC : lux up to 20% as Salamanca grew to size 6

IBT : -

5) 1625BC : -

City #3 is planted, settler for #4 and barracks in Salamanca.

Our position continues to improve. For city #5 I would like the coastal plains tile next to the fish. It can steal a fp wheat from the capital long-term to let it work multiple hills and be a strong shield city. Even the desert doesn't bother me thanks to agricultural. :D

Here's a screenie.

I have it. I'll settle Lee's Red Dot, then should we settle SW-S-S of Salamanca? Perhaps NW-NW- NW of Salamanca is better to grab the two fish.

Edit - saw Lee's post. I'll go for Two Fish for #5.

Early – Bump science a notch. A group of three Mongols approach.

Salamanca: settler=>warrior=>settler
NF: spear=>spear

Middle – Found Allegheny on Red Dot. Start a barracks. Bump up science again.
@ NF – On the IBT, lose a spear to an archer attacking across the river then kill an archer. I counter and take out the wounded archer and the warrior. (3-1)

Grand River: barracks=>archer
Salamanca: settler=>spear
NF: spear=>archer

Late - Some good news. The Mongols only have one city. Found Two Fish, start a barracks.

IBT – Salamanca: Spear=>settler
NF: archer=>archer

After Action: Here’s our civ:

Please note that the three rivers essentially trisect our empire. A city in one sector will have difficulty supporting a city in another sector. The four cities to the east are in a very good defensive configuration.

I would consider building three additional cities to the west and garrison them with troops in support of each other. The dots are just suggestions.

We can probably peal a settler off Niagara after the next archer. IW is due in six.

With the land size of this game I prefer to avoid 2 apart spacing.

I will try to take a look at offer an alternate selection. With the 512 city limit guaranteed to come into play we need to avoid over-cramming.

LK, I would shift the yellow dot 1 tile S, then we keep the 3 city spacing, also once we hit 512 limit, we can raze ans resettle, I think we got no choice to do that in case we find some resources way outside

got it

You took the words right out of my mouth. :)
I like yellow 1 S as well.

Sure would be nice to find that lone Mongol city and eliminate a civ this early. I'm afraid if we go look for it, we'll find 10 other civs though...

Pre-Turn
Mongols are hardly anything we have to fear with 1 city

IT Spain finishes Collusus and India the oracle

1. 1225BC
send out an archer and warrior to explore the west where we plan to settle, we don't need nasty surprises

2. 1200BC
with so few workers, there isn't much to do

IT well, we don't need to look for the Mongols no more
gr71200.jpg

3. 1175BC
so we have no enemy at the moment, but someone must be there in the south

4. 1150BC
we have another settler together with growth send to blue dot

5. 1125BC
exploring the west a little, hills and mountains and 2 cattle

IT we get IW, guess masonry and maths are next

6. 1100BC
our exploring warrior spot iron to the southwest :dance:

7. 1075BC
Oil springs founded, the west to me looks like dead end with ocean around

8. 1050BC
warrior explores that little land in the west

9. 1025BC
zzz

10. 1050AD
Tonawanda founded on pink spot, granary as wall prebuild

Salamanca has another settler in 2
Oil Spring and Two Fish get a rax sped up by forrest chops
Masonry is ready in 7
it is clear that we should settle towards the iron, dot map to follow

gr71000.jpg

and a new dotmap to get us iron with next 2-3 towns

blue dot is on top of gold, but it is better for perfect 3 tile spacing

gr7100b.jpg

Good job exploring to the west. I like green, then yellow, then blue.

More workers needed.

Allegheny will be a great worker factory once we have both flood plains irrigated

Tonawanda with irrigated wheat as well

We will still get the benefit of the gold. :D

Bugs is right, we need more workers. I like the idea of turning Allegheny into a worker farm.

All things look quite for the moment. I got it for a possible ten turns of "peace".

1000 BC
I wake up a couple of our units to explore a bit more. I don't like having just 1 visible tile beyond our borders. We also need to find those mysterious horses our people talk about.

850 BC
Well the silence is no more.

LAK-882.jpg

Mauch Chunk is formed. I went yellow dot first for the growth. I planned this when the fronts were totally quite.

800 BC
The Byzantine warrior is dead, and we promoted an archer to veteran.

We also have that spot W-SW of the iron. Plus we're agricultural.

I know, isn't it nice that all the desert near us is effectively plains. :D

There is a reason that I already irrigated some desert near Oil Springs.

With how few enemies we have seen so far we may want to start spreading the cities a little further apart. I don't mean to give up the 3 space plan, but I am not sure if all the new cities need 3 to 4 supporting cities.

Due to the size of this world you know it is going to be a win by conquest.

Two fish was to awesome to pass up, but I don't know if we really need to worry about claiming every last coastal location. With the 512 limit I would rather save the city count for the high land cities.

The good news is 2 luxuries visible on the monster map. The bad news is where are the horses?

I agree. We may want our cities to the NW to be more spread out.

What do you guys think about this layout?

I moved the iron city so it's on fresh water...

Red dot will be a really unproductive city. Is the main reason to build it just to stop the AIs from building a city close to us?

When the time for naval invasions arrive we will have plenty enough places to build ships from.
