got it, now we are no1 in terms of city count for the known civs, good.

Can anyone come up with a dot map for the next phase of expansion, before I play this evening?

What are the plans? We don't want the GL after FP for sure? I thought the FP could have been built using a MGL, but we have none yet. I will check how many turns monarchy will take but since no AI has it, I guess it will take many turns, whereas writing and currency are known.
It is set that we go for monarchy first?

I think we ought to go for the cheapest required tech until monarchy gets a bit cheaper.

Well don't forget about the timing of the GA. I would prefer to avoid a despotic GA if possible. This requires us to get to moarchy ASAP.

A non-despotic GA would be huge if we can pull it off.

I definitely would go for Monarchy next. If we don't encumber ourselves with unit cost we can keep research high and get Monarchy in 10-12 turns even if no AI knows it. We can then get the NonDespotic GA simply by waiting to use the Mounted warriors by 20 odd turns.

As stated by others, this is well worth the cost of admission. Getting rid of the Despot penalty greatly increases the worth of our GA.

Pre-Turn
a clear vote for monarchy first, will do that
swap MW to sword since we do not need them for a while

IT 3 Mayan swords and 1 spear appear and 1 Byz spear

1. 70AD
poly drops to 5 turns, we need to connect those towns we are going to build
defeat 1 hp Korean horse

IT more Mayan units, now a stack of 7

2. 90AD
found Gaya

3. 110AD
Gewauga in the east is formed, bomb a Mayan spear to 1hp at Southern Woods, beat it with elite, no leader [2-0]

IT situation is getting scarier with more units incoming
gr7130.jpg

a total of 17 enemy units

4. 130AD
elite sword retreats horse, retreat a chariot, sword promotes elite taking out Byz sword
a 2nd sword promotes elite taking out Byz spear [4-0]

5. 150AD
reduce science to 40%, 6 Mayan units next to Ratnawake
elite sword takes out 1hp horse, e-sword takes out Byz sword
take out 5 units at Ratnawake, take out war chariot
and e-sword takes out a JT near southern woods [13-0]

IT wounded sword attacks our exposed sword and promotes it, sword attacks ours and dies, but another 2hp sword
attacks our e-sword and beats it :( [15-1]
we get polytheism, monarchy in 23 for now

6. 170AD
quiet round, defeat 1hp JT and promote sword to elite

IT now the Egyptian force is coming

7. 190AD
take out sword + war chariot, retreat another and beat an archer, all at Allengheny
leave a sword exposed though [18-1]

IT exposed sword is attacked but wins and promotes, then my computer goes blank and reboots :gripe:
[19-1]
Maya has another stack of 4 at Caughnawaga

8. 210AD
e-archer loses against archer, then e-sword attacks and
gr7210.jpg

MGL forms army at Ratnawake and is filled with 3 swords, helps at Caughnawaga, 2 swords defeated there
take out JT on incense. lose a sword taking out 1 sword and 1 JT [25-3]

IT no attacks, but 3 Korean horses are running about

9. 230AD
take out Egyptian warrior and archer, retreat Korean horse into our hinterland, need to take sword back to defeat it, army leaves
Caughnawaga taking out another horse, plan to advance towards Mayan towns
found Black Forest in the southwest wood grabbing a fish , map reveals 3 more furs, not that we need them
kill one more Byz sword and promote elite [31-3]

IT Mayan workers are running away, thats good. Byz start SunTzu  we will face pikes and MDI's soon, we had better gotten the GL

10. 250AD
army advances towards Karakorum, the former Mongol capital, now Mayan
defeat Mayan sword, do not attack any more since that would expose our units.
Monarchy is another 16 turns away, then we still need to revolt, maybe 8 turns, hope that won't kill us
pictures will follow next post

we have one settler ready and another one next turn, we should decide in which direction to settle
we have 21 cities, compared to the AI leader with 17

our forces:
21spears, 19 swords and 11 cats

below are 2 pictures of the general frontlines
The North with Egypt and Byz
The South with Maya and Korea
I left some cats outside cities, actually in bewteen so we can reach either city where-ever it is necessary
army should go and attack Karakorum and then go for pillaging and razing towns so we can expand

and an overview so we can decide about our future strategy

Well it looks like I have "fun". I will be playing.

This game is fun, really, I enjoyed my turns a lot, you must strategize and think a lot

Take your time Lee. I'm up in Handy 18 as well.

First idea for long term - I would settle up to the river NE of Chondote and no further.

Second - try and fight a holding action in the desert while striking at the Mayans. Press the Mayans until they are gone.

Well I am not at all happy to see we went with red dot by the whales. Even after showing how the red dot on the gold hill would let us get rid of oil springs long term, we built a horrid long-term city. Ganogeh as placed will get a maximum of 9 shields. The red dot city I wanted will eventually get 14 shields AND the bonus income from the hill. I realize it waste a settler, but I refuse to waste that much commerce and shields. I set Ganogeh to be worked abandoned in 7 turns.

I rename oil springs to short-term1. This is one of those cities that we can eventually remove to give other cities more tiles. If we can build the grey dot city in my picture that explains my reasoning, then Allegheny can go at some point. This is short-term2. Oka claims almost no unique tiles, and it is short-term3. ST3 is swapped to barracks. Tonawanda becomes short-term4. This covers everything within the current city structure.

With the size of this map having a city that claims only 2 or 3 unique tiles isn't worth it.

250 AD
(IT) I see a lot of movement, but the total attacks are one sword dying at Gaya. (1-0)

260 AD
Several workers have to retreat by Southern woods as we were working to close to the front.

I change Black Forest to barracks to that we can actually use the forest to be chopped.

The sword army kills 2 spears and razes Karakorum. This was one of the iron sources for the Maya. We pick up 2 workers for our trouble. Unit cost will be brutal after entering monarchy, so we can't start gaining free workers fast enough. (3-0)
I kill off 1 chariot, 1 JT

New borders have appeared and Sumeria is on F4.
Per the first post: the standard AW rules do apply about declaring war and no per turn deals.
This makes it appear we are using the bizarre first turn trading rules. However, it is meaningless, as 2 techs and $30 won't get Construction. Things have gotten tougher, as they will expand the front to cover.
(IT) The Maya are building the Great Library.

We kill 1 sword, but lose a spear at Southern Woods. (3-1)

270 AD
I killed 1 horseman, 5 swordsmen, and 1 archer. (10-1)
(IT) The Byzantines join the GL party.

280 AD
I killed 2 warrior, 2 horsemen, and 2 spearmen. I lost a swordsman to a warrior. (16-1)
I have nothing in range of the sword that landing by Salamanca. I hope it dies, or at least gets hurt bad.

LAK-891.jpg

This was in honor of corn planter. No many how many teams I see that leader...
We have a second army.

LAK-892.jpg

Well I guess the RNG felt guilty, as this occurred right after losing the swordsman to the warrior. I rush the Heroic Epic in Centralia. We want to keep getting leaders. Even after we hit maximum armies, I won't argue with leader rushed buildings. We can certainly use the culture boast.
(IT) That sword by Salamanca dies, a horse dies by the hot spot of Southern Woods, and an archer dies at the other hot spot of Gaya. (19-1)

290 AD
Lee's Gold is formed.

I killed 1 JT, 1 horseman, 2 swordsmen, and 1 warrior. (24-1)

LAK-893.jpg

Now the challenge is to fill all of them.
(IT) Two swords die by Southern Woods. We lost the exposed archer, and 1 spearman by Gaya. (26-3)

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/GR7-350AD.zip

300 AD
I killed 1 warrior, 1 spearman, and 1 swordsman. (29-3)
You know the troops are exhausted when you ignore a 1 HP unit.
(IT) Disease strikes at short-term4.
The FP is completed, but I don't see much difference in GPT. It still will help long-term.

310 AD
I killed 1 horseman, and 2 swordsmen. (32-3)

The Maya are getting serious about Southern Woods. There are 7 more units heading toward it.
(IT) I lost a sword to from an attack by an injured sword. (32-4)
Korea joins the GL party.

320 AD
I killed 1 chariot, 5 swordsmen, 1 warrior (that red lines our army!), and 1 archer. (40-4)
(IT) Egypt wants to talk.

330 AD
I killed 2 JT, and 2 spearmen. (44-4)
(IT) The AI focus shifts to Black Forest. I starting moving troops that way, but it may get interesting.

340 AD
I killed 1 archer and 1 swordsman. (46-4)
I managed to get a regular archer up to veteran.

Danger Will Robinson, danger...
LAK-894.jpg

(IT) WTH? We had 18 gold, running -11 and we get a force worker disband due to the treasury being low?

350 AD
I killed 3 swordsmen, 1 horseman, 1 MDI , and 1 WC. (52-4)

==========================

Summary:
Well I better not hear any complaints about my leader luck. ;) :)

I would really like the Pentagon with the next leader. We need more survivability in the armies. I had to many red line scares with them.

This is the southern front and the target for the settler.

LAK-895.jpg

This is the northern front and the target for the settler.
This front was hot during the middle of the round, but it has settled down.

I see it and will grab it in about 6 hours.
I won't play till tomorrow though, so there is plenty of time for discussion if you guys have anything to say. :)

LK your city planning is well thought out. I agree whole heartedly.

We need to clear more of the Black Forest. That ground is too defensible for the AI.
