Then I think I've got it figured out. But I've used up my guess.

Someone else will probably put your two clues together, though.

There's no limit on guesses, but it would be nice if you had a map to post when you have the answer :D

Yeah, we'll I don't have that, so I'll let someone else give the answer.

If I'm right, it explains the kind of unusual format the coloring takes on this map (i.e. not each polity in its entirety in simply one color, but rather streaks across the map).

I think it's the map that in the event of a nuclear war, only Oregon will be saved from fallout, due to potential city targets and prevailing wind patterns.

The direction seems to match prevailing wind directions
The density is similar to the density of nuclear power plants
(more in the north east coast and the spot near Seattle)

I guess the nuclear fall out area of meltdowns or similar accidents of nuclear power plants

Yeah, based upon that observation I google-imaged for "nuclear power plants in the US map" and found the map several times over. It seems to be an old map for predicting where fallout shelters will be needed following a nuclear attack - attributed to the DoD but only found on blogs now.

@Arakhor got it, it's not about power plants but war fallout based on likely targets (population and manufacturing centers)

I was gonna guess like radon concentration or something, but the wind patterns seem pretty obvious now

I don't have a readily available map, so someone else should go.

No economy :smoke:

Red is most bad
What is bad ?

Well, at last a no searchable map...

Something to do with fishing?

Areas most at risk of flooding with rising ocean waters?

Going to say something too evident...

Pollution?

Pee? :mischief:
