Guess the Map IX: The Richese are no match

Is it related to "countries that have other countries inside of them"?

...or... attached to them?

As always, not even close.
Hint #2: Red countries have 5 of these, orange have 3, yellow have 2, green have 1, grey have 0.

Can it be something related to the space? Like space agencies, or centers.

Must be something very special if country like China has 2.

On the other side what can possibly Vatican have that Norway does not!? Vatican has a size of 1/8 of NYC Central Park. And it has 1 of "this".

10. The Vatican Observatory owns a telescope in Arizona.
As Rome expanded, light pollution from the city made it increasingly difficult for astronomers at the Vatican Observatory—located 15 miles from the city at the papal summer residence in Castel Gandolfo—to view the night skies, so in 1981 the observatory opened a second research center in Tucson, Arizona. The Vatican conducts astronomical research with a state-of-the-art telescope that sits atop Mount Graham in southeast Arizona.

It's time to give up! And proclaim you the winner. Телезритель победил знатоков.

I'm not going to let you give up.
Hint #4: It's related to cities. Red countries have 5 such cities, orange ones have 3, yellow 2 and green 1. You have only to guess what cities I'm talking about.

^^ I know that is wrong, but just to show I am trying. And here is another puzzle: why no one has 4 cities? What is so unique about 4 of "this" that not a single country has 4?

Catholic Archdioceses?

Waaait, wait. It's about alpha/beta/etc. cities, isn't it?

I was thinking that but I don't think New Zealand, Lithuania, or Colombia have one. At least none of those names show up on the wiki for global city.

Things that happened July 2013? Edward Snowden. Egyptian Coup. Syria continues. No idea.
