Guess the New Civs

I don't understand all the hype about Zulu and Portugal. What's so great about these civs?!?!

I think that Lisbon will just be a CS for now and Zulu is just stupid.

Aksum, Sumer, some South American civ, and Khmer all the way!

I just don't see how Brazil ever gets in before Portugal. Doesn't make sense. Either you put in a Native American civ representing that region or you put in Portugal. Brazil is a hybrid and doesn't fit either. If it was ever a super power then maybe, but it wasn't.

Zulu would be redundant if it was total military, but could be interesting as a rush civilization that can amass Impi's early and use the extra XP and movement bonuses. We need more of that.

*cough the Mayas of South America, The Chachapoya, Cough Cough*

But no, like we were discussing in 2k,

Austria + Gran Colombia could make dark horse selections and would fit into the Steampunk/Victorian Scenario.

Gran Colombia only lasted 12 years, even the United Provinces of Central America lasted longer.

Depends how you look on it. It's like the fall of Rome - there is a common date, but there's no "set" event. GC treaties still bind modern Colombia.

Don't get me started on the United Provinces of Central America either as a half Guatemalan :p

I don't think any other Native American civs will make it as I think the Iroquois will be the lone representation of Native Americans.

I'd guess Zulu (or maybe Ethiopia), Sumerians, Hittites, and I think the Moors are an interesting possibility.

Sioux or Native Americans will be one or should be. I believe they will add them. Sitting Bull and Dog Soldiers or some such UU (perhaps this time a mounted unit. The Sioux were a horse culture)! Another guess of mine is Mali, Ethiopia, Zulu (perhaps two out of three of these). And perhaps Sumer. We have Babylon yes but they came later in history. Portugal is a must. They should be in the game. Even though there was a CS named Portugal. This should be corrected. Portugal should be a nation as it was. I also believe there will be a third expansion. How is that for speculation? BTW I like your guesses.

You can't add "Native Americans",because the Iroquois ARE Native Americans.
Sioux would be the most likely.

I know people tend to get angry about geographic balance - something I think is pretty absurd, I mean, there are simply some geographic areas that lended themselves more towards Civilization building than others - but I cannot see why the Celts have been included before the Goths.

Because the Celts built a culture, instead of tearing one down. (Ok, oversimplification, but you get my point.)

They pretty much choose civilizations based off of recognition, most likely for marketing purposes. They do have occasional "obscure" civilizations like the Songhai or Siam - I did not know those existed until Civ 5 - but they were usually a great civilization. The Goths...how many people know about them? My bet is not many.

I can't resist speculating; I also think there will be a 2nd expansion or DLC to cover any Civs that may be left out of G+K, that have been a part of the series! Portugal, Zulu, Sumerians, Sioux. I like your guesses as well.

My hopes for the last four (in this expansion):
Zulu (Shaka - always one of my favorite AI opponents)
Ethiopia (Fills a spot on the Earth map w/Zulu)
Hittites (First civ I played as. That game got me instantly got me addicted to the series)
Phoenicians (just love the name...Phoenicians)

Yes, there is a lack of historical depth in my decisions.

What language did the Carthage units in Civ IV speak? I noticed there are YouTube videos in ancient Phoenician language, maybe they'll use that tongue for this expack.

When people suggest Civs like Aboriginals and Inuits, I think they should also consider that each new Civ requires a Leader, and unique units/buildings/improvements.

Everyone knows that Aboriginals have boomerang throwers and kangaroos, and Mad Max as leader, but some more lesser Civs dont always have so profilic details.

I kind of like the idea for Brazil, but what would their unique units or buildings be? What about leader? Well this thread has sparked for me interest to read more about latin american nations. :)

A question, what will become of new DLC? Will they require the expansion, or will they have two versions or a patch for G&K owners?
Interesting question.
It wouldn't suprise me if they'd require G&K. The already released DLC will probably be reworked/rebalanced to also work with G&K, but I'm not sure if it's worth it to put the extra effort in the post-G&K DLC, how many people who are willing to buy future DLC are not willing to buy this expanion pack? I think it'll be few, if any.

Personally I think next to Portugal both Zulu and Sioux will end up DLC. But that's a different discusson for the non exisiting topic 'Guess the new civs for future DLC' ;)

It is a football superpower, which would tie neatly with a new "football victory" :p

Anyhow yes, it is not a superpower but it is still a large market. You may think it doesn't make sense to add them before Portugal, but Carthaginians have been added a plethora of times without the Phoenicians being there at all.

Brazil was a civ on Civ: Call to Power. If I remember right:

Leader: Getulio Vargas
UU: Dragoes da Indenpendencia (replaces cavalry)
UB: dont remember if this game had UB.

My suggestions:

UA: Not sure because the religion, maybe somekind of bonus in faith and happiness. Or plus food along rivers.

Leader: Dom Pedro I (declared the indenpendency of Brazil) or Getulio Vargas (governed two times, first was a dictator later as a president).

UU: Bandeirante - it was a scout on the colonial ages. Besides exploring, its importance was in bring indians to slavery and capture fugitives slaves. This unit would have a 25% chance to convert barbarians to workers.

UB: Footbal Stadium: replaces the stadium, with somekind of gold bonus.
Or
Comunity Churchs: +happiness and +faith. Replaces temple or somekind of similar new building the exp will bring.

Yes, I agree. I would very much like to see another native north american Civ. Since Sioux did not build any cities (I think the ones in Civ II very made up for the game), other potential canditates would be Apache, Cherokee, Pueblos (incl. Anasazi) and Comanche. I am not that educated in american indians culture to say which one deserves to be in the game, but there has been many good concept ideas for all of them. :)
