Hawk03-5CC Persian Astronauts

We lost dyes to the evil greeks recently, so our luxes are't doing the job. Notch the lux slider up until the happies outnumber the unhappies. If we need deficit research, do it. Our goal is space, we need to research a lot more to get there. Maybe it is time to buy or steal tech rather than research it ourselves, or we run out of time.

Is anyone home?

Sorry about. I had lots of things to do, and went to the beach for a day. However, I should find time to play tonight.

Choxorn, it is 100% crowded, but I just find it odd that all 5 cities are about to revolt.

You playing or not? :)

Since killerkid isn't responding, we'll give Tasslehoff a chance to go.
If he can't, then I'll take it.

Guys, I'm really sorry. :( I've been really busy and am in a Civ Blah, as Tassle says. I think I will have to withdraw from the SG. Good luck, and I'm sorry.

Is this dead? I guess it will be if everyone drops out, but I'm not out yet. Hopefully, someone can take the save and continue besides myself.

Since my Wife had surgery recently, and I've been spending more time in Omaha helping her out, I have lost motivation to keep playing this SG. If the other 2 guys want to continue on, then I'll lurk.

New Roster:

choxorn: Just Played
killerkid: On skip- "Civ Blah"
Tasslehoff: On skip- "Civ Blah"
sk8boardbob: On skip- Inactive
Hawk Chieftain: On skip- RL Issues
Overseer: UP

Well, that leaves us with you and me, Overseer. Let's go advertise in the thread-where-you-advertise-SG's-that-I-can't-remember-the-name-of thread.

The SG registry. I am also civ blahhing a bit, but I won't abandon this. I'll just wedge it in between my other SG commitments and my Spore time. The galactic part of Spore is pretty cool, I highly recommend it.

I played my 10, things are going okay, but we are falling further behind, hopefully our beginning of era tech has some value that we can trade back into tech parity. Here is my turn-log:

MIs? You're kidding me.

Time to build a crapload of bombers and Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Iran Greece.

Sure, you can join. Mind taking a set now? Overseer just played and I'm too busy.

Welcome aboard, Tusker! I hope a fresh set of eyes and mind can help us complete this with a victory. I'm just wondering if we might do better by stealing tech than researching it ourselves. I just started the Intelligence Agency and Flight is due right about when it finishes. With some nifty trading, it may catch us back up. From there we can decide if we continue researching, thus controlling our path, or buying/stealing tech with the money a low slider will generate. I think either one will get us there, but which will be faster?

Thoughts:

We're doing around 500 bpt for research; that's going to mean 14- to 16-turn research for most techs in the MA. Crunching the numbers, it looks like we'll need around 170 more turns if we intend to self-research everything.

However, we can gift the Germans into the MA and (hopefully) trade for their bonus tech. If we can pull that off, we'll only need around 140 turns.

Each tech we can steal from the Greeks will shave off another 15 turns from the process, on average.

In terms of military, I'm a bit frightened by Greece's numbers. If it comes to war, we'll need to pillage improvements to make a buffer and try to set up a kill zone. We'll need to heavily fortify our colonies and place a few troops to prevent mountain landings by our cities.

We have a full set of both Unis and Stock Exchanges, so we can switch to high taxes without losing efficiency.

Does anyone object to joining some workers to beef up our cities? Arbela could use six more citizens, and the rest of the cities (other than Persepolis) could use 2-4 additional citizens.

We might think about pulling Greece into our war vs. the Aztecs and see if we can't trigger the MPP between the Aztecs and Egypt. If we start a nice, widespread war, it'll slow down the tech pace and give us some time to catch up.

Given all the above, I'd say we should focus on buying/trading/stealing techs once Radio is in.

What do you guys think?

We need bombers and lots of them. Yes, we already knew Greece was a KAI.

Do we have any native workers left?

Interesting idea. Unfortunately, the AI sucks at invading across continents, so we're all alone when it comes to Greece.

Given all the above, I'd say we should focus on buying/trading/stealing techs once Radio is in.

Agreed.

Pre-turn:

Doh, we have no native Workers left. I'd like

MM:

Persepolis - looks good.
Pasargadae - needs one more citizen to make 1-turn Tanks. Reassign citizens for growth.
Susa - can make 2-turn Modern Armor if we build an offshore platform. For now, I'm going to MM for growth and 3-turn Tanks (2-turn tanks if we mine a few tiles).
Arbela - MM for growth and 3-turn Tanks.
Antioch - 2 turn Tanks, shiny. This one looks good, too.

We really need Coal again!

IT:

Watch some Greek Ironclads move around.
Pasargadae: Tanks
Susa: Tanks
Arbela: Tanks

Turn 1 (1782 AD):

Water a square at Antioch to speed growth.
Mine a square at Persepolis.
Move the wounded naval stack into Susa for healing.
Establish an Embassy with the Mongols for 118 gold.

IT:

Mongols and Aztecs sign a trade embargo against us.
Mongols and Egypt sign MPP.
Pollution strikes Pasargadae.
Antioch: Tanks

Turn 2 (1784 AD):

vBattleship vs. Aztec Galleon: eBattleship (5/5)
Mine a square at Persepolis.
Sci slider to 70%, Flight still due in 2.

IT:

Trade embargo against us between Egypt and Mongols ends.
Mongols declare war on the Greeks!
Germany and Greece sign MA vs. Mongols.
Egypt declares on the Greeks.
Aztecs declare on the Greeks.
Pasargadae: Tanks
Pollution strikes Susa and Antioch.

Turn 3 (1786 AD):

Clean up pollution.

IT:

Greece gives us a boot order. Oh, his culture borders grew.
Ugh, that moves enough of our troops that he's able to found two towns, one of which takes away our Rubber :(
Flight->Radio
Persepolis: Intelligence Agency->Bomber
Pollution strikes Pasargadae.
Susa: Tank->Bomber
Arbela: Tank->Bomber
Antioch: Tank->Bomber

Turn 4 (1788 AD):

Move some of our troops. We'll still get a boot order again next turn though.
Mine two squares at Susa - bingo, two-turn Bombers!
Water a square at Pasargadae - growth next turn.
Plant a spy with the Aztecs. He's caught.
Plant a spy with the Mongols. He's caught, too. Mongols declare war on us.
At this point, I'm going to hold off on placing any more spies.

IT:

Pasargadae: Tank->Bomber
Pollution strikes Antioch.

Turn 5 (1790 AD):

Try to plant spies with the Mongols and Aztecs again. Both fail.

I'm going to break here for discussion.
