Here comes the Hobbit movie

Why in the world would there be two movies?

Can't remember when or where I read it, but I heard rumours that one film would be based on the Hobbit directly, with another focusing on Gandalf when he buggered off in that midsection to help the White Council fight Sauron. Could be that or some sort of merger of the two stories to better link to the LotR films?

Would have been happy with just a direct adaption, myself, but am delighted it's off at last regardless. I do hope they get McKellen back as well :)

The Hobbit was one of my favorite books of all time. I'm excited to see the Battle Of Five Armies! :woohoo:

What I would really love to see is a BBC/HBO collaboration with Jackson to do stories of the Silmarillion. Give each chapter its own couple of hours.

And why is Jackson producing, but not directing them?

Considering how LotR got worse by each film and King Kong was utter garbage that might not be such a bad news. Of course it depends on who'll take his place but I mean that the only, or even the most probable perhaps, way isn't down.

There's Beorn, also. And Bard. And more spiders!
I just was reading the Hobbit to my daughter as a bedtime story--took a few weeks.
I agree it doesn't seem right to make two films--unless one is out to make more money. It could be done pretty well in three or four hours, I think.

On the cartoon--I never felt it gave you the same epic feel as the book, and the two LoTR cartoons that came out were hoorriibbllee. WAY too much singing, like, a few steps and a song. A song about a song. A song about singing a song about a song...

Hope it's worth it.

WOW! Now that would be pretty darn ambitious. I think you could actually do a full on series, on the line of Doctor Who or Stargate SG-1. Which would be awesome. Great idea.:goodjob:

i never liked the lord of the rings to begin with

I thought Return of the King was the best, and that was the general consensus. They were all pretty equal though, so choosing a best one is really just details.

King Kong though was way overrated. Nothing special about that one at all.

Why do you people always hate on anything new?

The Hobbit (i knew it as "there and back again") was one of the first novels i ever read, heck it was one of the first books my grandma ever read and if you ask me its about time someone is making a live action movie version of it

Its gonna be GREAT, trust me

Me, I'm happy that AT LAST the dvarwes will come into their own with this movie, as something more than comical relief!

I've always been sceptical about those darn elves poncing about the place.

Dwarves FTW!:goodjob:

Maybe a bit OT but still. In my opinion The Fellowship of the Ring was good as theater version and the extended version was great. The Two Towers had only mediocre theater release but the extended is almost as good as the first. The Return of the King had plain bad theater release and extended version made it only slightly better.

I agree 100% and that's what I've been telling people when we were discussing it. Still seems a bit odd. Dead Horse perhaps?

Going back to the book, is it Sauron though? It just refers to him as the Necromancer in the book?

McKellen has expressed interest in taking the role. Suppose for $20mill who wouldn't?

:agree: ROTK was easily the worst of the three movies. :yuck:

I can't wait for these movies! I hope Ian Holm will be playing Bilbo Baggins as well as all the other actors that acted in Lord of the Rings and have roles in the Hobbit.
