How do you end 'cancel culture'?

Nice hit and run, but actually that is all consistent. I dislike the message, dislike the nefarious people behind it, but I have no problem with them spouting it off.

Your words are not consistent with your statement that you "try your best not to judge" though

I didn't say I don't judge. I said I try my best not to. And I am a flawed person in that respect. But at least I try.

Let me try another time. If I say "I don't think NFL players should be allowed to kneel", I would agree that someone saying that is opposed to free speech. But that's not what I think. I'm fine with NFL players kneeling. Go ahead and kneel. But when they kneel they have a message. And I disagree with that message. So I dislike seeing them kneel. But I don't think they should be banned from kneeling.

Likewise, I don't like cancel culture. I don't agree with the message of cancel culture. But I don't think cancel culture should be banned or stopped.

I'm honestly trying hard to explain this but really I can't put my point any more clearly than that.

I'll try and highlight this time.

There. The bold thing.

I don't agree with you.

Here's how it works: Someone saying that are not opposed to free speech. This is not what you believe; you believe it's opposed to free speech. But I pointed out that it was how it works, because of how free speech is structured. Free speech also entails proposing limits on freedom, and it has certain limits. Defining its own limits in public debate is also part of free speech. That's just how it is. Then you said I was making a straw man for trying to point this out, and that I hated the big bad rightists, and hopefully other soon-to-be-memes.

That said, I do believe it's problematic, like you do. I don't like cancel culture. But the fact that you are so quick to group me with the supposed crypto-communists and right-haters is just a riot. You're way too quick to pick enemies, way too eager to try to display dominance over "less experienced debaters", and... Again. Just breathe. You're talking to different people here. The world is not your enemy.

Frankly I'm glad that you acknowledge that I'm right.

Since you have obviously ceased with any meaningful or sincere posts on this topic, I'm going to engage in something productive this evening.
And I win once again .
He's flustered because he knows he's wrong. Trying to distinguish Trumpism from the alt-right is the last act of a desperate man.
Keep thinking that, keep thinking that .

You've won nothing. I've conceded nothing. One day you may actually learn that walking away from an intractably idiotic presentation not based at all on sense and logic but scripted and faulted rhetoric is not admitting defeat - it's being a mature adult and leaving a ranting child to have some quiet time. And I am unaware of these other supposed "victories," over me you claim either.

A concession speech is a mere formality, when it's all over and done with.

edit: and it's funny to call others "ranting children" when at least 50% of your posts on this forum are just run-on sentence rants about extremists and neo-manicheans.

I'm right because you just said I'm right.
Sure, as long as you agree. Again though, I do suggest you spend a little less time being angry, because you sure as heck didn't agree with me previously in the thread, nor in the actual post I'm quoting. It makes your position very unclear when you type things you don't mean. :)

And then, it still boils down to the fact that you jumped at me without knowing anything about my position. You were way too busy picking enemies.

But whatever makes you sleep at night. Imma go outside and light a cigarette. <3

Very noble.

Hey, mind explaining exactly what aspect of the "message" behind NFL players kneeling you dislike?

Ironic when you kick and scream SLANDER when someone calls out your views and opinions and proceed to harass other posters to “correct” their “misguided” views. You know, kind of like the mechanics of cancel culture!

I think everyone living in the United States, even black people, should on some level be thankful and appreciative for the society we live in today. To me, kneeling communicates that you are ungrateful for everything this country has done for you. I dislike that message.

Keep deluding yourselves that your saying anything worthwhile, valid, or remotely sensible or true, or that those you spar with on these forums are "proven wrong," "have their flaws shown to them and their lies exposed," and are "rhetorically soundly defeated." I'm sure it'll sound very good from a comfy couch in the office of certain professional specialists patiently listening and taking notes.

oh yeah, all the beautiful and amazing things this country has done for black people.

I mean either you are trolling me or you just didn't understand the point I was trying to make for a long time, and when you finally got it you agreed with me.

Hundreds of thousands of white northerners died in the 1860's in order to free the slaves. Would you die for any cause today? Maybe y'all are trying to make the Civil War disappear because it makes you uncomfortable.

Only the South fought for the cause of slavery. The North did not fight for abolition.

You are so wrong, you don't know your Civil War history. Do you know anything about the Civil War? Answer me, have you ever read a single book about it?

Let me point out, for example, that "John Brown's Body", which is an explicitly pro-abolition song, was a super common marching theme for the soldiers. What do you think "let us die to make them free" means? Dude you are way out of your depth.
