I think the "concept" I instinctively strive towards is /ˈpɛn.ɪns.ju.lə/, but I rarely take the time and effort to pronounce the /ju/ in there, which is why it probably comes out as /ˈpɛn.ɪn.sə.lə/ most of the time. :)

do the people who say pe-nin-syoo-la also say c-yoo-pon instead of couh-pon ? (for coupon)

Nah, French word, exists in my mother language - I instinctively pronounce it closer to your second version.
I've never known which syllable to put the stress on, in that word, though, which is why I pronounce both syllables on a roughly equal pitch.

Ba, just say it as a "Sh"

Nobody else says the s as a sh?

Puh-NIN-shuh-la

/pə.'nɪn.ʃə.la/

Stress on the second syllable, probably a seceondary stress on the last.

Pen-in-shu-la

Or something similar. The point is, the s is an sh.

This.

Good to know all my years in Australia do effect my pronunciation.

Probably not; and why would they?

Would you pronounce cup the same way you pronounce coup ?

How do you sup your soup ?

I've met people who pronounce coupon the way I pronounce it (cou-pon) and those who pronounce it (cyoo-pon)

Also, I've learned many moons ago that you can almost never figure out how to pronounce something in English properly simply by looking at the word. You usually have to consult a panel.

 So true.

It's pronounced PEN-IN-SHU-LA. Like insulate, IN-SHU-LATE. Or issue, IH-SHU.

People who pronounce issue as IH-SYOO are seriously creepy.

I pronounce both with a long u, which sounds like yoo. The second option is the closest one to what I would say it, since I do not pronounce it as a short u. But realistically I am with the rest of the Aussies here and pronounce as sort of a sh sound, which is not to far from the second option.

You probably pronounce Tuesday as Chooseday and Dew as Jew, too.

How else can you pronounce those words? ''twosday'' and ''do'' just don't sound right to me. It could be an english vs american thing though.

I propose it Puh/pe-nin-suh-la.

Goes to show how fun dialects can get and such. Cuss vs. curse, again. A very fun distinction between areas. ;)
