Again, you and many others are still here, no? :) why does this principle apply to everyone but the people making the claim?

the fact that SOME of us who were critical are still here that does not mean ALL of us are still here. THere are several users who I know that were critical when the game was first announced that stopped posting regularly here ages ago, I myself stopped posting for months and only came back to discuss recently released promotional materials

Moreover, I think the discussion in this thread shows the opposite; a good 50% of posts, give or take, are critical of the game. And given that we know it’s human nature for folks to chime in when they’re upset rather than when they’re satisfied, we can conclude that negative reception to the game is well represented, if not potentially over represented.

This discussion does not show the opposite because again the discussion and poll have substantely less people discussing and voting in them every single time. You'd think if everyone was as excited for the game as you think that the total number being polled would be increasing

I've had a change of heart. I'm going to wait until they release more leaders and civilizations that I want to play as before purchasing. Now that the full roster is out, the only leader/civ I'm really interested in is Han>Mongol>Russia with Catherine. I don't think that's enough for me to purchase a game. I'd like to see some form of Victoria/British Empire, Poland, other interesting European and Asian civs like some Nordic civs or Hungary or Austria and the likes, Central Asia, Burma, Tibet (or at least some kind of Himalayan civ). Unless if I get a good chunk of those type of civs, I don't think I'm going to get it.

I am more excited about things they cut off than things they introduced. In fact from new mechanics I am only interested in trying the new citizen/improvement/buildings system.

Visually it is a rollercoaster from gorgeous to hideous.

I can't say anything about UI/UX.

There are some red flags, even things that I consider a negative value. I am just too old for meta-progression however it is ignorable. I believe leaders and civilizations were perfect as clothes, making them a gameplay mechanic was unnecessary, again it is somehow fixable. Performance is almost certainly meh, it is tailored for amount of players way too low for me. I find starting-uniques-plentifulness as the cheapest trick to make a strategy game replayable - I hope the game is gonna be fun even without all uniques. Ages currently are too similar to each other and there are factors that encourages players to play each era the same (lingering bonuses towards X). I am not sure I want to start at the same position surrounded by the same rivals and playing the same gameplan 3 times in the row - not autistic enough for that, however one era can be fun. There is now too many modern stuff (to satisfy era system) that I am not interested in - many high-cost assets have no value to me. There is returning stuff from civ6 that I would very much like to be gone (agendas, policy cards, and probably more).
@Edit: map scripts do not excite me either!

Following civ6 development I am afraid that they will once again succumb to whining (fan service). I believe it is okay for AI to forward-settle, it is okay for player to loose unit/city/game sometimes. In general I wish they will spend time to fix base game before putting more gameplay content in. Right now game feels a bit like a hot melted pulp that needs some extra love to be properly formed.

I would buy it for 20$ which translates into 2.8 however I voted 4 because I am full of hope and it is a shiny new thing.

I really wonder how much this will be an issue. I'm sure firaxis have the stats on how many people play 1 civ repeatedly, or a short list of civs repeatedly. They keep talking about wanting to challenge players to use more civs so maybe it's a relatively high number?

Of the civs revealed thus far, modern in particular has no civs which appeal to me just based on vibes alone... So I completely undertand the sentiment, that was lowering my interest significantly, but the gameplay reveals have been interesting for that age so my excitement based on available civs there isn't as bad.

8/10 for me. I'm not sure I will like Civ7 more than 6 (which I liked enough), but I'm keen to try a new iteration of the series after so many years.

I don't have a problem with civ switching as a concept, though the execution could be meh. I don't really care about the leader roster. I don't care if Britain is missing. Moderator Action: *SNIP* Political comment removed. Keep it out of the gaming forums. You have been warned. -lymond I'll take the Normans, TYVM. Hope it takes a long time to be added just to piss people off, since I have a disdain for the complaints about the civ or leader roster.

9! Will be pre ordering soon. I’m not going to be delving into the previews mainly because I’d rather discover all that for myself. The only aspect of the game I find disappointing so far are some of the leader choices, really.

I was already on a 2, but England/Great Britain/The United Kingdom not launching as part of the base game and most likely being DLC has put me off from ever buying this now.

I'm kind of with you on all of that. :mischief:

I don't really care if their complaints are lame, tbh. I doubt you'd care if I dislike the games you like.

Their complaints are only lame in your opinion though. Choice in civilizations and leaders is a big part of the series, so its not surprising that having what some may think a poor/uninteresting choice of leaders and/or several popular civilizations missing at launch would rub some fans of the series the wrong way.

Also it's not about caring if you like or dislike the game. You're right I don't care if you dislike a game I like. It's about specifically wanting the game to be designed/released in a way that makes long time fans upset and put off from buying a sequel of a series we're all fans of out of spite. That's just weird to me.

Is no one seriously talking about the Commander units abuse that only players can maneuver/exploit but AI most definitely can not? Already seen some youtubers collect their dying units to then immediately redeploy on the other side so they can retreat. Civ7 AI is not going to be that sophisticated to do something like that.

wait... you want people to be upset and put off from buying the game...?
No, not at all. I don't really care about the civ and leader roster, I don't care that Britain is missing, I tend to find those discussions tedious and slightly irritating. For me it is not important precisely who is and isn't in the game, as long as each individual choice is interesting.

The fact that YOU don't care about something doesn't change the fact that there are others that do.... also the post you quoted is literally talking about hoping that Britain isn't introduced for a long time just to make people angry....

I haven’t noticed that, but if that’s the case, then that is troubling. To be honest, I haven’t been paying much attention to the war making bits.

Well, of course?

That's why I only "kind of" agreed with it, and with a mischief face. :)

There is definitely some unit movement micro that the AI will not be able to manage. Hopefully the Commanders still help with them getting decent armies to the front, since that was an issue in VI.

I just think it's very privileged or un-self aware to be up in arms about, like, Britain being missing at launch. That's the normal experience for a lot of people who would like to see something represented that's not usually represented. And, at the same time, when there is representation for the normally unrepresented, we get complaints about DEI.

So, yeah, I'm very unsympathetic. And since I'm not Firaxis, I also don't give a damn about "long time fans" being upset for this particular reason. Even if I wind up not really liking the game, I'd probably have gotten what value I can expect from it, so to me this is all a storm in a teacup.

It's "privaleged and un-selfaware" to expect the largest and most influential empire in human history to be represented in a video game series about human civilization/empire building where they've been included at launch in every single game in the series....? Well I think we'll probably have to agree to disagree here

I'm glad you're excited to have gotten Hawaii, Buganda and Ibn Batutta though and I hope you get the value you expect out of this game.
