That's an incentive for someone like Socrates or a monk, but, call me a pessimist, not sure that's really gonna play much of a role among your average forumer.
Yeah true , its more aspirational than how things are.But I can absolutely assure you it does for me . I've grown up a lot in recent years , and one of the most important things I've learnt is that I hope to constantly strive to ensure my standards are my own , and that I try to act in accordance with them and try not to bend them around the inequities of RL .
I find that posting is a decent test of whether I am achieving this . And interestingly , I do notice that positive posts and affirmations are often ignored , almost to the point of them being perceived as uncool
Unfortunately , my growing maturity has not manifested itself in better arguing skills

Dunno. I find that after a while here I was a better poster when dealing with people I like and respect and a worse one when dealing with people I don't like or don't respect. The rules and the staff really don't have much of any influence on that. So when the people I most like and respect go away, so does my caring about how nice I am.
Nah , not that . It's more a case of I've learnt that "taking the piss out of everything and anything is fair game as long someone who may take offense is not present " is not always cool .Now I just prefer to take the moral high ground and judge everyone from there
I also notice that, I think in general, most threads & conflict/debate driven. However, I try to make an effort to response to positive posts as well. Like so.
