I don't think I've changed.
I think my changes as a CFC user mirror my changes as a person.
I'm trying to think hard but I can't come up with any examples of this though.
I'm I the only one here who reads his posts from years ago and thinks "Damn straight! Stick it to em' Past-Bugfatty!" ?
Yes, yes you are.
I refuse to read any of my posts from pre-2010 for fear of inducing vomiting.
Just put your name in the user search box in the advanced search and select your desired time frame. It's really fun when you ain't got nothing else better to do.
If I get to down on my posting from the past, I just look at yours from the same era.I'm I the only one here who reads his posts from years ago and thinks "Damn straight! Stick it to em' Past-Bugfatty!" ?
This. When I first started posting in OT, I used to join in political debates. Since then, I've learned that it is a pointless waste of time. Now, I occasionally post my opinion on a subject, but I still try to avoid full-scale debates. The more I see you guys argue, the more I realize how stupid arguing politics with people is. I used to want to get into it, but now I just find political arguing silly after being a CFC user.
Also this. Before joining here, I used to just nod my head in agreement, and tried not to rock the boat. Now, I still do try to minimize the rocking, but I will occasionally take a stand. And on the majority of those stands, time proved me right!I've actually become more confident in sharing my opinions in real life since I joined here. Granted, I was 15 when I started here.
Agreed.I like offering up my opinion, and perhaps getting a response, and perhaps defending my position. However, I have a short attention span and so being pulled into very long, detailed-obsessed debates (that are often filled with ad hominem attacks) takes a lot out of me and is forcing me back towards being a lurker, like I was for the first few years following this site.
In addition, there seems to be certain issues that come up over and over and over again (gay rights, religion, etc.) that are doubly bad topics to see because they also aren't the type of topics that a poster will EVER see a change in their relevant positions.

Since I started posting in OT, I've done a fair amount of introspection and thinking about my positions on political and philosophical questions. For all the jokes about OT being a wretched hive of scum and villainy, there is a fair population of good posters that make good points, and in most cases those points are definitely worth thinking about.
