How Have You Changed As A CFC User?

I think my changes as a CFC user mirror my changes as a person.

I'm trying to think hard but I can't come up with any examples of this though.

This. I think generally moving to a beach town mellowed me out a lot. Other than that it's hard to come up with specifics.

I'm I the only one here who reads his posts from years ago and thinks "Damn straight! Stick it to em' Past-Bugfatty!" ?

Yes, yes you are.

I refuse to read any of my posts from pre-2010 for fear of inducing vomiting.

Just put your name in the user search box in the advanced search and select your desired time frame. It's really fun when you ain't got nothing else better to do.

Thanks. Apparently I started posting here right before Civ IV was released. Though I took two two-year breaks.

I probably used to think I could make decent contributions (or at least felt cfc members should try to). Now I see cfc as much more of a social thing/habit. I also used to actually play civ.

A couple political views changed, but that's probably more of a factor of me being 14 when I joined than Off Topic. Notably when I joined I wasn't as pro-legalization of marijuana, and the internet made me more antireligious (as opposed to just agnostic/atheist). As well as views on universal/single-payer healthcare, although I think I just didn't give it any thought back when I joined.

Looking back on my old threads in OT I'm not really that ashamed by anything I've posted here... I don't look back on my old threads and think "man, I used to be like that?!" There are obviously some things I've believed in the past which I now know are wrong, but the things I've actively thought about (and therefore started discussion threads about) are not things that strike me as cringeworthy.

The more I see you guys argue, the more I realize how stupid arguing politics with people is. I used to want to get into it, but now I just find political arguing silly after being a CFC user.
This. When I first started posting in OT, I used to join in political debates. Since then, I've learned that it is a pointless waste of time. Now, I occasionally post my opinion on a subject, but I still try to avoid full-scale debates.

I've actually become more confident in sharing my opinions in real life since I joined here. Granted, I was 15 when I started here.
Also this. Before joining here, I used to just nod my head in agreement, and tried not to rock the boat. Now, I still do try to minimize the rocking, but I will occasionally take a stand. And on the majority of those stands, time proved me right!

I like offering up my opinion, and perhaps getting a response, and perhaps defending my position. However, I have a short attention span and so being pulled into very long, detailed-obsessed debates (that are often filled with ad hominem attacks) takes a lot out of me and is forcing me back towards being a lurker, like I was for the first few years following this site.

In addition, there seems to be certain issues that come up over and over and over again (gay rights, religion, etc.) that are doubly bad topics to see because they also aren't the type of topics that a poster will EVER see a change in their relevant positions.
Agreed.

I miss you:sad:

I think my grammar has improved. I used to use a lot of abbreviations, didn't capitalize, no punctuation, etc. which I now consider annoying.

Politically, I feel that a few years ago, I would have been a straight Republican. Now, I pay attention to whomever coincides most with my views. Still on the right, but I'm more cautious and apt to listen to others. I don't discount people's statements just because they disagree with me on that subject or others. I used to. I regret that.

I started to go insane - paranoid, if I saw a spam anything I'd try to stop it, especially after a nasty incident with colorful birds...
Civ 4 S&T does things to people, things you will never comprehend because a) you have no idea what's going on if you're new and b) you've gotten used to it after a while.
There is no middle way.

Since I started posting in OT, I've done a fair amount of introspection and thinking about my positions on political and philosophical questions. For all the jokes about OT being a wretched hive of scum and villainy, there is a fair population of good posters that make good points, and in most cases those points are definitely worth thinking about.

I'd agree here. I have definitely done more reading on wiki and other websites on things I never would have looked up otherwise. Big fan of the book threads too, they have given me an incalculable amount of information.

I don't quote-war with people anymore; it takes so much time, and it's not worth it. I'll offer a correction or information (or informed dissent) when I have the time and feel like it, nothing more.

I dont post in political threads so much anymore. It gets tiring to post a somewhat reasonable (IMO) post and have it get lost by the people screaming at each other.
