I suspect that the Venetians lost their Navy in a war with Castille or England, and were left vulnerable to any two-bit nation with a Cog or two.
Brunei isn't so weak either. They've got high pop and rich high manpower provinces.

). Castille then declared war, and I just kept sinking their navy, while occupying their provinces in the Sinai, and in the Cape. The end result is that Castille is now expunged from the Middle East/South Africa, and my African provinces are no longer distant overseas, so the ducuts/research have gone through the roof.

Im currently the Emperor and have enacted all the decisions up to Ewiger Landfriede (The one which declares peace throughout the Empire), and have a ton of vassals scattered around the Empire, as well as a few outside it. My lands in England, Ireland and Brittany have been gradually taken, with my most recent acquisition in the area being London, having taken it from Wales - England has been dead for a long time. About 15 years before, I single-handedly dismantled France, and now the successor states have been eating at French territory as well, with France currently not existing any more.
