How is your EU3 Game going?

What's a good European nation to start as?

Castille. After you've managed to find your way around the game, I recommend Tuscany for a bit of fun :D

Speaking of which:

...oh. Right. My game crashed.

You'll just have to imagine it, but: Tuscany, 1481. Provinces: Parma, Mantua, Romagna and everything south on the Italian Peninsula/Sicily/Malta except Rome, who is my vassal (plus I have a mission to annex them). Other vassals are Ferrara, Genoa, Croatia (who own Ragusa) and Ragusa (who own Dalmatia, Croatia and that other province).

And I have accrued a glorious 36 infamy. :smug:

I don't have the game yet (Christmas is almost here), but I'll ask now.

What's a good European nation to start as?

Burgundy has what is probably the best set of missions in the game, especially if you later destroy France and convert your realm to that country (thus gaining access to all of France's missions, too).

Other good starting nations have already been mentioned... Castille, England, France, Austria...

Which expansions are you planning to get? I have all of them up to Divine Wind, and enjoy the full combination immensely.

I think that Burgundy becoming France is like selling out to the big man. It shouldn't be done! :)

I agree. You play Burgundy to destroy France, not to re-create it.

I think France is a bad choice to start play with. In the early game, they have a strong web of vassals and this can be a pain to break, and it's all too easy to incur the emperor's wrath...

I was about to ask why I've never become Emperor. I guess that's the answer.

My first real game was France. :smug:

Well, your first real game is different from your first game. My first game was as Castille, which I gave up in 15-something due to 60% inflation, but my first real game was as the Papal State.

Even with an infamy penalty of about 80 points, it's still possible to be in the lead by about 200 points with some electors.

If you have a -800 penalty and you're still preferable, then you're competing with those of opposing faiths, those you're at war with or those who have been excommunicated.

IMO, it's best to start with a medium sized, manageable, yet powerful, country as your first (real) game. Good ones of this are Portugal, England, and perhaps Naples.

On another note, what is the hardest country you have ever seriously played a game as? Not lulz games like most Ryukyu games are, serious games.

For me it would have to be that one game I tried playing as Bengal IIRC.

Brittany probably
