Hmmm, 300 years sounds like a good amount of time to me, of course if I found out there was no afterlife I'd probably sign up for 10,000.

1.Those who actually know me here, know I would never seriously joke about suicide.

2.I'm having the best of both worlds. I can live for as long as I like. I'd not like to be in the situation I am desperatly bored, last human eg. I want to be able to die if I want. I merely want to remove unchosen death.

Depends on how much I aged. People who reach very old ages tend to be healthy for a lot of their life, into their 100s. On the other hand, some people get cancer at a young age and their life becomes very painful.

If I didn't age then I would want to live for a long time. 100 years is really nothing. I'm 21 and it's slightly frightening that 4 more lots of that and I'll be 104. 500-1000 years, or perhaps even longer would be a nicer amount of time.

Right now I'm so tired and stressed I'm not sure I want to live that long. That will probably change though.

The quality of life is very important in deciding how long is best.

I think 100 would probably be pretty good. It would slightly beat the record for those in my family, that I know of. My great grandfather died slightly before his 99th birthday, and was in very good physical and mental health for 97 of those years. My grandfather though, although he had always planned to surpass his dad, was really ready to go when he died at 91.

I wasn't accusing you of such. That was directed at another poster. Guess I should have made that clearer.

I plan to live forever, of course, but barring that I'd settle for a couple thousand years. Even five hundred would be pretty nice.

It kinda ruins Hemingway, Cobain and others (I can't remember the 3rd person that it wrecks a hero for me). They would be far greater having receded into oblivion.

But Courtney killed Cobain...

Argh, didn't even read the OP. I voted for 100, but with the conditions of the OP, I'd like to live ~300. Granted that I retained youthful vitality and did not turn into some decrepit state of being.

The world needs me.

Forever.

About 500 years would be nice. I'd really like to literally watch nations rise and fall.

"Forever", although, honestly, I'd say "indefinitely" rather than go for eternity. Perhaps one day I'd get sick of living, but I'd prefer if the leaving of it, as it were, was up to me. Pity that I'll be dead and gone long before then, or, at least, I hope to be. Don't fancy being perhaps that's a small mercy. Who knows what'd it'd be like to tire of life? Maybe better to go without finding out... Who knows?
I suppose I just find it hard to pick a measurement of time and say "this'll do me nicely". Too human for that. ;)

Living for ever would get boring.
'so what do you want to do today? I want to go to paris'
'we've already explored paris, not to mention every city ever'
'oh well lets go to mount everest.'
'we've already climed every mountain at least 27 times'
at which point I would kill myself.

I've never really feared death. When it's my time it's my time, and until then I'm just going to live my life to my enjoyment. I said 100 purely because I like living; not because I fear dying.

Nah, forget wanting to see the world. Try philosophy. :mischief:
