How long would you like to live?

Give me a couple of years after the retirement age to travel and waste everything I've earned and I'll be satisfied with that. So - appr. 67-68 years.

Paraphrased from memory from Eliezer Yudkowsky: "Yesterday I wanted to live one more day and expected to feel the same way tomorrow. Today I want to live one more day and expect to feel the same way tomorrow. Therefore I wish to live forever, proof by induction."

 Burn!

Not infinity, so picked the closest to it.

Then thought about 500 - 5.000 years ... it's a pretty long time for someone adjusted to live to about 60-100 years. Don't think I'd want to stick around for 5.000 years.

I wonder what living that long would do to our drive, creativity and other such things. Although I'd settle for a more mañana attitude to life.

Forever.
Why?

A) I'm terrified of dying and what lies beyond.
B) I will get unlimited time to experiance every worthwhile experiance for the rest of eternity.

As long as I can take my loved ones with me, I couldn't bear saying goodbye to every companion every average human life cycle. Oh, also I would want to live in a good conditioned body preferably my 20 year old body atm :D

Well, since it's a healthy length of any length, and we'll have new planets to explore, I suppose it might as well be forever.

But the healthy part is important. I think I'd rather live to be 90 and be healthy the whole time than live to be 100 but be mentally out of it the last 20 years. The comparison versus being physically out of it but mentally clear the last 20 years is a bit tougher, and depends on how physically out of it I would be.

How long does my partner in life live?

I want this thread to live forever.

But seriously, I want to live my life to the normal age. If I were to live longer, I would hate to see how far down the tubes the world has gone by the time my final hour came.

If I were to live forever, I would be motivated to do something about it.

Being motivated to do something, and actually being able to do it, are two very different things. I could be motivated to move the earth closer to Pluto. Can I actually do it?

No, but forever is a long time. Whose to say that you won't at some point become rich? You could do something then.

My current oldest 'loved ones' are my parents. We're already too late to save my grandparents, because they've died. But I'd really like to get the medical technology going fast enough to save my parents.

If I had that attitude, I'd be deterred from having children. How fair would it be to birth a baby into a world you'd not want to live in? And truthfully, we can fight the forces that cause the world going into the tube.
