How well known is the CN tower?

I only heard of it last year. Or it might be this year. I'm from US but I live in India and go to a Canadian school and have to suffer Canadian geography and history and I now know more about Canada than I would care to....Damn Canada. Ever since then I've wanted to invade the country and raze your cities.

Yes, I know about the CN Tower. Never been there, I go if I had the chance. I think it most famous building in Canada (expect maybe Parliament). But when your competition is the Olympic Stadium and... aah... err... whatever the hell they have in Vancouver, that is not saying much.

Just give it some time and I'm sure it will fall apart on it's own. :p

I've heard about it. I'm actually surprised there are people here that haven't. It will be overtaken soon though.

So what's so good about the CN tower ... is it just ... tall ?

I've heard of it, but haven't seen it. I've been to the CNN building in Atlanta. Does that count? ;)

I've heard about it. Someone gave me a book on the world's tallest buildings when I was 5.

What does the CN stand for?

Canadian National, a railway company.

I know it exhists, no idea what it looked like, or where it was on the world- would have presumed USA.

That was the old name. It's been renamed to "Canada's National tower" since.

Canada's National/Canadian National, it's not like there is much of a difference between the names :p

It was created to send radio and television signals north. Before the days of cable.

Now all it's got going for it is that it is the tallest free standing structure in the world. Although I think I heard that there are a few towers going up that will pass it in height.

Grew up in Toronto, only went up the tower a couple of times. I do really enjoy seeing it from all the different vantage points in the city however. You can really see that bad boy from quite a ways away.

My girlfriend and I were within walking distance of the CN Tower once:

Yeah, it's just that not too many people realize that it's not named after the railroad company anymore.

As for towers going up that will surpass it in height.. Construction started on the Burj Dubai last year - it's going to be almost twice as tall as the CN tower!! And it's an office tower at that.
