Ok now I know naval units get interchangeable promotions like "normal crew' "buccaneers" and such to choose from to change and boost stats and such, and how Mechanos flying machines such as Thopters, Dirigibles and so forth gain these interchange promotions, I was thinking how about on top of those they get some of their own themed interchangeable promotion along with the naval ones. Heres some sample ones.

"Interceptor" -3 Attack, +2 Movement, 1.5x attack vs Flying, -50% defense (This means its attack strength against ground units is severely impaired, but it does a lot more bonus damage against flying so for instance....

Thopter (Without Interceptor)
Ground attack = 5
Air attack = 5

Thopter (With Interceptor)
Ground attack = 2
Air attack = 7.5

"Bomber" -3 Attack vs Flying, -2 Movement, -2 cargo, 1.8x attack vs ground, -50% defense

Thopter (Without Bomber)
Ground attack = 5
Air attack = 5

Thopter (With Bomber)
Ground attack = 9
Air attack = 2

I'm not sure how you got those stats but...

Thopter (Without Interceptor)
Ground attack = 5
Air attack = 5

Thopter (With Interceptor)
Ground attack = 2
Ground defense = 1
Air attack = 3(flat -3 attack penalty is still in effect)
Air defence=2(50% from attack vs flying minus 50% from defense penalty cancel out)

"Bomber" -3 Attack vs Flying, -2 Movement, -2 cargo, 1.8x attack vs ground, -50% defense

Thopter (Without Bomber)
Ground attack = 5
Air attack = 5

Thopter (With Bomber)
Ground attack = 9
Ground defense = 2.5
Air attack = 2
Air defense = 1

Basically they do more penalties than benefits, there are almost no air units that are a threat to thopters(so bomber would be the only rational choice), and I'm more than a little surprised a greek fire-style promo hasn't been brought up...:mischief:

I think by air he meant ranged which would bit be affected by the flat damage.

Also: Greek Fire may be added for someone else, won't be for the Mechanos. They feel more likely to go for big bombs, IMO, fits better with the "brute force tech" thing that separates them from the Dwarves. Bigger better faster.

Alright, well I was up late last night and in my bordem I whipped this up rather quickly, I present to you all, our new Lenora =D

Lenora.jpg

Its needing anyone who can texture or animate to give it some love, the thread with its downloadable files and details details can be found here.

The affinity method used by units is not bruteforce. ;)
But would the AI understand it at all?
I mean, I don't expect the AI to aim for creation mana to get the health bonus but I want it to at least build the structure it should when the mana is already in its pools. Would doing it via python actually make the AI understand that much?

Also, I think I found a good looking map for that airship. Mind if I give it a go?

Doing it through python would definitely NOT teach the AI.

Doing it through DLL, yes, if AI work is put in. Which it already does for units, IIRC (can't quite remember if I did it or not); Each resource you have for the affinity should make the promotion more valuable. Same would doubtless be true of buildings, once done with it.

Making the AI more likely to settle near resources would be possible too... But probably not very efficient.

Sure go ahead, and see what you can do with it. Anything ATM is better then nothing =D

Well than obviously any python solution is out of the question.
At least the balloon texture is a hit. And what a hit! If I can finish this off I might finally get something of mine acknowledged as worth while. (well, a texture to someone elses model is still something)

Just one question. Why did you make it all in one piece as opposed to having the metal trimmings on the balloon separate like you did with the engines and other stuff? It would have made my life 100 times easier.

That should be the slogan for all future RiFE ads.:mischief:

bigger, better, slower? :p

Always remember MORE is the new MORE. Not less, not balanced, not sane but MORE. Seriously, I have been fallowing this from the days of FF and I can say that the one thing I always liked about this branch of development is that it newer settled for mediocrity like say Orbis. You add more for the sake of more when ever you can think of something to add. And that in it self is all anyone can ask for.

Would it be possible to block the mount Pegasus abilitiy (Austrin) for units with the monstrous creature promotion? Having a flying Leviathan was fun, but having a giant sea monster (or giant ape) riding a pegasus doesn't make much sense :D

Someone needs to do some paintings based on the previous two posts. Maybe we can also spread the lore of the most baddass horse to ever walk (fifty feet above) the earth.

The horse is too big. Saw that coming, by the way.

Well excuse me for not having the right pegasus to boat ratio.

You are not excused. Hang your head in shame. And by that, I mean hang yourself in shame.
