Question: What do you call sending J.K. Rowling into outer space?
Answer: AstroTERF

Hey man, don't listen to what any hypothetical buzzkills tell you, this post rules. Thank you for making a good post in this thread.

Moderator Action: Lets keep this thread a Q&A one please.

It's been about 6 years since I made this thread. I'm currently, finally, laying in a hospital bed in Montreal, recovering from bottom surgery! I thought it would be interesting to go through this thread and comment on response I've given, especially where my thoughts and opinions have changed over time. Trans culture has changed a bunch over the same time frame, too. Sometimes it's almost unrecognizable.

Most important thing I have to add to this thread is this: 0 regrets. It's uncanny how much better I feel about myself. The next few months of recovery are going to suck, but that's just the way it is and I'm okay with that.

I'm so happy for you!

Great news Emzie! I hope you have an easy recovery. The state of the world changes with such announcements. :)

That's so good to hear. Hope recovery goes well.

I'm so glad for you, Emzie! I wish you the quickest recovery, and all the best for you!

Thank you everyone for the kind vibes

I had a big multiquote going commenting on old posts in this thread, but it's too complex to do on a phone and I'll wait until I have access to a computer again before tackling that. The change in culture and in personal thought over the last 6 years is pretty interesting.

Quick comment on recovery: this really does suck. I'll spare everyone the details, but I feel so gross -- I have wound dressings that aren't removed until Sunday, and so I can't shower until then either. I'm covered in one continuous bruised patch from my hips to half way down my thighs. The initial pain medication they favour (tramadol) leaves me incredibly nauseous and throwing up in pain is NOT fun. Thankfully they've charted it as counter-indicated and I won't get it again (bonus: that also means exclusively good stuff).

I have a private room in a renovated Victorian home that's attached to the private hospital where my surgery was preformed. It over looks a park along the Praries River (a channel that divides Montreal Island from Laval.

My mom has also travelled here from Alabama and is staying for about a month. She can't visit right now due to Omicron, but that could change and at worst, I'm discharged Wednesday and l'll be able to see her then. She brought me brown sugar cinnamon poptarts as a treat, something not sold in Canada. She's amazing and I love her!

yeah, tramadol sucks, plenty of fluids, the good stuff can cause some constipation and you don’t want to be straining so much with all that bruising.

@emzie at least you are not confined to your bed and can stand enough to take pictures. Have they got you walking yet?
