IOT Clash of Ideologies

We did not know there was a treaty in the making. As we are a member of the 4th Internationale we shall respect the treaty and let the Allied Nations continue the peace with us.

Hmm? But why should we accept peace with you? You declared war on us for exercising our beliefs, and to us, your war with us is an entirely separate matter from the peacekeeping efforts in METH.

Naturally, we are prepared to continue war with METH if they insist on protecting you.

Our main intention was to assist METH in their war for their homeland and restore the balance of power in the Americas. As peace was made we see no reason to continue our war. However, if you cannot see a more diplomatic solution we are not afraid of fighting you.

It is fortunate indeed that we fear nothing as well. At a minimum, your possessions directly bordering us will be removed as we do not feel we can trust you.

After further review, METH will not sign the treaty until Cuba is listed as one of the North American powers the Allied States have peace'd with.

METH's refusal to sign their one chance of survival in favor of protecting a power from its own bad decision is noted, and chalked against their foolish communist philosophy.

Arabia leaks secret correspondence

The government of Petain has leaked information revealing that His Majesty's government provided tactical advice to the French state on its plans to attack France. His Majesty's government has noted that Austrian actions served the primary objective of removing the Petainist menace from Europe with a minimum of casualties, with the sole losses for any nation begin a single Carthaginian destroyer, and that the actions of Austria's brave diplomats have seen this goal achieved.

Carthage has rendered its protest to Vienna over Austrian involvement in providing advice to the French, and informing them of Carthaginian manoeuvres into Arabia. However the released documents prove false French claims that Austria incited the French to invade, and that Austria offered Petain an alliance to attack, supporting the governments assertion that France had already committed to the attack when Austria initiated measures designed to eliminate the Petainist threat.

His Majesty's government has also noted to Carthage its desire for continued peaceful relations (referring to the extirpation of both nations common enemy), and reminded it that an attack on Austria or its allies would inevitably drag all of Africa, Europe and most of Asia into a needless war. It also stated unambiguously that Austria was uninformed and uninvolved with the Russian expedition into North Africa.

Foreign Policy analysts in Salzburg commenting to the Vienna times have noted that it would be a misplacement of Carthaginian priorities and interests for it to attack Austria, considering the network of alliances such an attack would invoke, and considering the fact Austria has not directly attacked Carthage.

Collapse of Rhineland

The Rhineland Commune, due to the failings of communism has collapsed into anarchy, with His Majesty's government vowing to restore order to the region and institute right governance under the Empire for its people. Reporters sent into the region have told the Vienna crimes that chaos is rampant, and that men, women and children are being savaged at the hands of unruly mobs, and die-hard radical communist bands. Interviews with families from the are have universally resulted in pleas for Austria to assist the Rhenish and expressions of disgust for the failed ideology of communism.

Police Action in France successful

Continental France this year was liberated in a brief campaign that faced no substantive resistance. All reports indicate the joy of the French as liberation proceeded, with images from Paris showing the jubilation of the crowd as a column of Austrian regulars marched up the Champs Elysees, with the Parisian mob enthusiastically toppling statues of Petain. Petain himself narrowly avoided capture by dressing as a nun, escaping to Arabia via boat to Naples in the Carthaginian Union.

Horrors unveiled in Petainist France!

In a disgusting example of the depravity of the Petainists, Austrian soldiers have liberated numerous labour camps wherein Arabian citizens were utilised as slave labour. Reports indicate that many inmates were forced to live in cells without basic sanitation, and that those who were incapable of working were summarily executed via the customary French method of guillotine.

These discoveries only unveil the true depths of the hypocrisy and depravity of the Petainist regime, which analysts deduce is due to the perverse union of fascist and socialist ideologies, with Petainist "national-socialism" leading to tyranny and anti-human monstrosities that censors prohibit this paper to publish in the name of decency.

Interesting.

The Carthaginian Union offers a white peace and alliance with France.

France accepts the Carthaginian offer.

Austria would urge Carthage not to accept an alliance with France (ergo, it shouldn't ratify the treaty it offered it) considering the documentation we sent you.

The government of HM Queen Margaret has noted the raising tensions between Carthage and Austria. Given our cordial relations with both powers the Foreign Ministry invites representatives of the Austrian and Carthaginian governments to attend talks in Cape Town to be mediated by the Foreign Minister, Karl Reinhardt.

Austria, ever desirous for peace, is happy for representatives to be sent. Although we note that our diplomats have already been sent to Carthage with various documentation in the hope that Carthage will not buy into the opaque deceptions of Petain.

There is little to discuss.

France will remain independent in Arabia with a Carthaginian guarantee of independence.

Austria has no intention of sending an expeditionary force to Arabia. However it does desire a commitment of non-aggression to Austria on the part of Carthage, considering its association with a hostile power (France) which on the face of it would put it in a state of hostility with Austria.

In return we would be willing to sign a peace with France.

A non aggression treaty is a definite possibility.

good to know, well it seems that if its a possibility a modus vivendi exists in which Austria has no intention of attacking Carthage and its interests, and vice versa.

Carthage may not be inclined to believe our intentions regarding previous events (despite their truth) but trust is quite irrelevant when reality dictates that our interests converge on peace.

Austria, after hearing from the Norse Union in the Valencia Conference that it does not intend to uphold the defensive pact that exists between Austria and the Norse Union in the event of a war, a clear revocation of its acceptance of the terms of defensive pact, hereby declares the defensive pact between the Norse and Austria, dissolved until further notice. As a precaution, Austrian forces have been put on a state of high alert, and have been directed to be prepared for any Norse aggression either on the Danish border or in the North Sea.

His Majesty however desires only peace with his neighbours, even nations which Austria has disputes with, and informs the Norse that if they recant their revocation of the defensive pact, and apologise for offensive, insulting and slanderous behaviour and actions to the Empire, the nature of which they and others are well aware, that His Majesty is more than willing to renew the defensive pact between our two nations. Likewise His Majesty would be willing to sign a non-aggression pact should the Norse Union forfeit all claims to sovereign Austrian and Spanish territory, in addition to re-initiating the defensive pact along the terms aforementioned.

sincerely

Minister of Defence: Miklos Horthy
Minister of Foreign Affairs: Franz von Liechtenstein

The Norse would like to regard this overreaction on part of the Austrians due to our requests over Brittany and the blatant refusal of Austria to keep to consultations of agreements.

Our arguments were over a issue that we thought you could heed. To dismiss a defence pact be of the greedy and savage. If you cannot reward those who helped you on France then we will heed this: we are maintaining our defence pacts... including with Black Russia of course.

However we will also note that the argument of Carth was issued due to our defence pact with Carth and hence, overall, Austria is attacking us for having something they do not have: the guts to respect the disagreement between those we have both a pact with.

Still... we will continue to honour trade and hope for a continued trade indeed.

We note that the Norse Union was the party which dissolved the pact by stating it would not assist in the event of a war occurring with a foreign power, if said power was attacking us. Austria's statement that the pact is dissolved is a recognition of the reality the Norse have declared, and is hardly "greedy and savage". The Norse Union dissolved the pact, not Austria.

Again, we note that we are more than happy to reinstitute the defensive pact if it recants this revocation of its duty to assist in the event of a foreign attack on Austria. Indeed the very fact the Norse Union is making the above statements instead of doing just that, which we clearly offered it in our statement prior, shows the degree of its dishonest and insulting foreign policy towards Austria, and speaks of nothing other than absurd and extreme effrontery.

The Norse would remind the Austrians that we process a defence pact with said foreign power and that... disagreements regarding Brittany were key issue in leading us to a neutrality stance. Call it dishonour but we at least do team work instead of having entire nations focus on fleets so that you can have all the cake of France...
