Your problem was that anyone with half a brain could see your attack coming, and so I pre-empted it and made sure to take most of the Scandinavian core while I was at it (or so I hear)
Hello, and good morning. I'm Lighthearter of the LMCP here to provide you the latest on events across the globe in this time of conflict. Your feature film will begin in a moment, but first:
The Americas:
Allied Nations elements began the year with a massive naval push into the Caribbean and up the Mexican west coast. Though the Cuban Western Fleet was crushed almost instantly, in the Caribbean Cuban battleships faced off against an Allied battlegroup, with the aid of METH cruisers breaking out of the Gulf of Mexico. The battle looked bleak until reports filtered through GNAW command that Allied plans had been stolen! Armed with a 30% combat bonus against the Allied Nations, the North American Confederacy now had a chance. In the vicious Battle of Jamaica, the Americans managed to sink the entire Allied fleet of three battleships and a cruiser squadron but at the cost of the METH force and a Cuban battleship. Thwarted, the Allies launched a land invasion into Columbia while amphibious forces struck Honduras. Cuba held in the latter, but Venezuela and Columbia now lie under the Allied heel - a springboard for a conquest of the Panama Canal, which would allow them to link up their navies.
Meanwhile, METH executed an overland drive into its former territories, seizing Baja in a matter of hours and inflicting heavy damage to the Allied Army. Confederate troops arrived from the north and took up arms alongside the METH forces - so recently mortal enemies, now standing shoulder to shoulder to face the South American threat. Chihuahua, Coahuila and Baja were taken at no METH losses, compared to two destroyed CSA Militia companies and five Allied Regulars. The back of the Allied Army is broken. At the same time, rockets launched from a Confederate airbase in Kentucky rain down on Amazonas, smashing the Allied industry there into oblivion. The devastation was catastrophic.
But it was not to last. Everything changed when the Empire of the North attacked.
Tens of thousands of Northern men stormed the bulwarks in Ontario and Virginia and Texas, utilizing DECISIVE BATTLE! to ensure victory, gaining the strength they needed through their berserker infantry. However, due to METH's massive commitment in Mexico, the Northerners saw no resistance at all in Texas and Deseret, causing their berserkers to kill themselves from the dishonor of forgoing battle. In Virginia, the CSA fought valiantly and to the last man, but the Northerners overran the Old Dominion State. Confederate States Destroyed.
In Canadastan, the Northerners take serious losses, but in the end Ontario falls. Now in control of most of North America, the Empire of the North is again a force to be reckoned with - but whether they are in alliance with the Allies or out for their own gain is a question worth debating - as are the chances any of the powers in this war now have, with the Allied Military smashed, METH reduced to a rump state, Canadastan sans a capital and the Empire lacking an advanced military compared to its neighbors.
Time will tell. The Great North American War continues into its fifth year.
Europe & Africa:
In Europe, the Spanish State remains mostly isolationist, watching the events taking place outside its borders. France also focuses on defending its borders while the other powers go to war. Black Russia looms on the edge of the continent, brooding and waiting for an opportunity. South Africa assembles even more of an air force, but hangs back and waits rather than committing itself.
The Norse Union moves its navy into the Baltic in an attempt to launch an invasion of Austria, but in a vicious naval battle the Norse Fleet is annihilated to the last ship. Thwarted, the Norse launch an invasion of the Rhineland through Denmark, but only secure West Germany before the Austrians beat them to the rest of the old Kommune. Meanwhile, Austrian forces launch from their ships and seize Sweden, Denmark and Norway without firing a shot.
The Carthaginian Union sweeps its fleet through the Mediterranean, annihilating a Byzantine cruiser and driving the rest of Néo Vyzántio's fleet through the Suez Canal. Then the force turns and sweeps through the rest of the Med before serving as the launching point for a massive invasion of Occitania - the world's largest amphibious invasion, on June 6 of 1944. The Austrian forces nearby, land and air, put up a valiant fight but the Carthaginian pressure drives them inland easily. All seems lost for the Austrian force, as a total disaster looms. However, Austria's high command utilizes SO MUCH TO SO FEW! and withdraws four of their five Regulars without harm from the battle. It seems France might be a tougher fight than the Carthaginians thought. At the same time, the Carthaginians assault the Sinai Peninsula in Néo Vyzántio, devastating the seven irregulars and one recon wing assembled to defend the province in a mighty show of arms. With the Suez now in Carthaginian hands, the Byzantine fleet cannot return to the Mediterranian save by taking the passage around South Africa - a voyage which would take much time.
The Rhineland War continues . . . .
Asia & Oceania:
In Asia, the Japanese Federation enters a period of temporary stagnation, with little development due to slow government programs. Though they do not execute any new developments, they do now have quite a surplus. Meanwhile, the Han Dominion claims West Siberia, sealing off the last of the world's unclaimed habitable territory. The Indian States continues expanding its industry and military, emerging as the dominant superpower in the Asian sphere.
The Allied Nations launch a naval blitz that sweeps from the Solomon Islands to Hawai'i, destroying the entire Cuban Pacific Fleet in the Battle of Guadalcanal, forever giving the waters off the island the name of Ironbottom Sound for all the dozens of sunken Allied and Cuban vessels there. Though Micronesia is spared conquest due to Allied supply lines, the Solomons, the Pacific Islands and Hawai'i all fall to the Allies.
The Magazine has released this year's listings of Nation Awards! Each award comes with a 1IP bonus to the winner. In the event of a two-way tie, no award is given to either party. If there are more than two nations tied for an award, it is not given out at all.

The Nation of the Year Award:
Every year, the Lighthearter Magazine of Country Prowess awards to one nation the Nation of the Year Award(NOTY), in recognition of one single nation's fantastic achievements and unlikely successes. This award is given to nations that stand firm and fight effectively in the face of overwhelming odds, or to nations that overrun the opposition in a flurry of violence, or even to simply the world's largest economy - the nation with the single greatest achievement receives the NOTY, which comes with 1IP and a 5% bonus to either Army, Navy, Air Force or Income. The NOTY cannot be given to the same nation two years running, but it can be awarded to a nation multiple nonconsecutive times.
For this year, the NOTY is awarded to an extraordinary nation, as always. The nation in question managed to destroy another nation's entire navy in a single decisive engagement and conquer almost all of Europe in a single year, capitalizing on the weakness of the Rhineland Kommune. In addition, they prevented the loss of a massive force in Southern France through use of faction powers, potentially prolonging a war that otherwise would have been a mopup for their enemies. Thus, it is my honor to award this year's Nation of the Year Award to The Austrian Empire!
Austria is not the aggressor in our conflict, and is willing to make peace with the Norse Union, contingent upon it forfeiting all claims to Brittany, England and Wales and recognising the same as sovereign Austrian and Spanish territory forever, and upon it ceding West Germany to Austria in compensation for damages caused by the Norse. With such peace of course itself, and any associated Austrian concessions, only taking affect upon the confirmed cessation of conflict between the Norse union, associated allies, and Austria and fulfilment of the above terms by the Norse.
To South Africa
We are disappointed that South Africa did not, as indicated last year, establish contingencies to assist in the event of a Carthaginian attack.
Austria encouraged France to attack Carthage, got other members of the Conference to blockade Carthage fleets so Austria could consume France, plotted to invade Carthage and generally sought a crusader approach to operatives and it now has the nerve to describe itself as 'not the aggressor?'
While we consider our options we suggest South Africa heeds not the illness of Austria's false witness.
The matter of any Carthaginian grievances at us proceeding from our utilisation of their known military might to remove the French threat to Europe, however, has no bearing whatsoever on Austrian relations with the Norse. Your utterances in no way whatever deal with our two nations relations, where the Norse were the ones to initiate war against our fleet without any military provocation be it direct or indirect on the part of Austria. We have offered once again quite reasonable terms to your nation, this time for peace in a war in which Austria is clearly winning, having conquered your capital, and the heartland of the union at no cost whatever to its own army. Need we remind the Norse furthermore that we entered Scandinavia completely unopposed, and that it has seen its navy utterly, and completely, destroyed at our hand.
We retain said offer to you, despite your arrogance, perfidy, and slanderous disregard for objective reality, and our actions will proceed according to the decision the Norse make be it peace or continued hostility. Now is the time for the Norse to make a decision regarding their future, either persist and face us in battle for the fate of Europe, or choose the path of peace and have what was lost restored unto you. We will consider whatever decision you choose to make as final.
To Austria: South Africa is still considering what actions, if any, would be appropriate given our prior agreements with Carthage and the recent revelations by the French.
To South Africa: Austria merely hopes that the South African Government isn't as perfidious as the Norse. The impression at present is not one to inspire confidence.
Our decision will be determined by Scotland, which will not fall to falsehood, and the Fylkir, the secular and religious head of the Norse peoples, still breaths and leads his forces personally (I am RPing the General I have be the Fylkir). If we choose to fight you we will be rebelling against the true aggressor, who attacked France for a plot to attack Carthage for its ideology.
In what we choose we urge South Africa to not trust Austria and to judge France's position as a unwilling puppet of Austria that was thrown away as young as the first act of its dance; Austria's aggression is cold.
That said we are still... deciding our policy regarding the taking of Sweden, although Scotland and Yorkshire are in our hands, their procession as critical as Scandinavia itself, their Norse linkage matching Greenland and Iceland. You have not beaten us Austria; we will however consider the options for the sake of the Norse peoples and their faith.
Your options are twofold. Accept our terms (apologise, forfeit claims to provinces that were never yours, cede West Germany to Austria, and Austria will upon the conclusion and confirmation of annexation of West Germany return your conquered homeland), or perpetuate this conflict that you initiated. There are no other options available.
Predicting imminent Norse Aggression, the Lord High Admiral successfully destroyed the entirety of the Norse fleet this year in a thrilling victory for the Empire. The Admiralty reported that the Norse fleet was led into the Skagerrak between Denmark and Sweden by the North Sea fleet, before being trapped by the much larger Baltic fleet in a swift and decisive battle.
Meanwhile an expeditionary force was sent from Poland to conquer Sweden, Finland and Norway, meeting no opposition from formal Norse armed forces with our brave soldiers marching unopposed into Stockholm and the Palace of the Fylkir, who fled via Karelia to Scotland.

Observing the symbiotic relationship between the Norse Pagan religion in the State, the Occupation of Scandinavia has officially forbidden the practice of the Norse religion, executing leading pagan clerics/government officials, and imprisoning lower functionaries. Norse temples likewise have been systematically destroyed, including the Temple of Odin at Uppsala, where human sacrifices were periodically conducted by the Fylkir himself, with its golden chain being melted down to provide much needed capital for the war against Carthage. Simultaneously a campaign of conversion has been initiated by the Church, resulting in many souls being liberated to the joys of Christianity, with the first sod for a new Cathedral in Uppsala on the sight of the destroyed temple to the Norse demons being turned by the Bishop of Gdansk on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
Miracle as Carthage invades Occitania
Carthage, initiating the largest amphibious invasion in world history has occupied the recently conquered province of Occitania, in a blow to Christendom and to the Austrian Empire. However in the midst of this defeat, a miracle occurred as savvy tactics on the part of Prince Otto von Habsburg saw the withdrawal of the greater whole of the Austrian forces, preserving the army from what at times appeared to be catastrophic annihilation.
The Emperor praised his son and heir, noting that in the event that Carthage insists on war, that this preservation will ensure that the Empire will be able to fight to valiantly to the last man and the last gun, making the Carthaginians bleed for every drop of ground they attempt to conquer from the Empire.
Byzantine Army Destroyed

Arabian specialists likewise suspect that Petain will seek to take advantage of the situation for himself, and assist his overlord Carthage by invading Iraq and Jordan with his not insubstantial army.

In West Germany, in the settlement of Celle, the Flyker would denounce the 'papal evils' that had 'chained the homeland.'
"They are offering to hand back my land... let they are conducting practices to show they are not leaving! The Norse are fools if they let RP trigger their pride and stop them from signing peace. Jeho could mop you up in a single turn should he so choose. The Empire of the North advises peace as the wisest course of action for the Norse.
Canada we offer peace. We truly have no problem with you other than how you invaded us from behind when we were aiding american brothers from an invasion in the south. Our terms are thus:
1. You will cede Labrador and Alaska to us, since they are the fringes of your Empire. We will in turn pay 8 IP upon confirmation of this land transfer (as in if you do it in your orders this turn, we will pay next turn when we see it in the update). You will also return New England and the Great Plains, while we will return your capital, Ontario.
2. You will renounce any ties or alliance with the METH and Cuba, as well as any other nation that means harm to the Empire of the North.
3. We shall sign a defensive Pact where should anybody attack us in order to conquer our homeland, we shall support each other. We shall have the might of North America behind us. This shall also ensure peace between us.
4. To further ensure peace between us, should we be drawn into opposite sides of a war due to alliances or what have you, we shall agree not to fight in North America. We shall fight against each other on our allies' fronts, but North America has seen enough war for a while, I think we can agree on that last part at least.
5. We apologize sincerely for the Newfoundland incident and offer 1 IP as an insignificant and token gift of sincere apology.
METH shall receive no peace deal from us as they are the reason we entered this war in the first place. We are sorry for the continued loss of life as we continue to fight them, but it is unfortunately necessary.

France is, statistically speaking, insignificant. On the other hand, India is stronger than 99.2451 of every "theoretical" country (meaning it is ahead of the pack by a wide margin, but not insurmountable with significant backroom politics and, again, I'm pulling this idea largely out my ass).
Once again, Democracy pulls ahead of the pack with Communism falling far behind, but largely because there is only one full Communist country, and that country is being whipped (by a Democracy of course). However, these numbers make it look like Empire and Monarchists are doing relatively well, so instead of taking the sum of the Total IP for each country, we take the average IP for each ideology.
Communism, Fascist, and Empires are now below the average, and Monarchists are practically the average here. Democracies, per country, have pulled out significantly in terms of economic power.

I would do score comparisons for military strength, but the numbers are reliant on many different factors for every different player to forego the use of a simple T1 to T1 comparison. However, in the event of war, it is no contest that democracies, on average, can pull out far ahead against their enemies. Since economic numbers are the only numbers relatively hard across the spectrum, I figured they were the best mode of comparison.
...that is quite considering, just rather... questionable regarding occupation, especially with the reports of the temple burning.
If the temple was burn then economic points have to be distributed... that is if there is a temple, since there is a case for the focus on outdoor worship meaning the temple be not likely to be existent.

Correct, and also a historical reference. The part about the melting down of the chain is a roundabout way of explaining the +1 IP Austria got for nation of the year. Oh and Ailedhoo, you didn't get the general til this turn, so I'm going to keep what I said. If you disagree than just consider it as propaganda.
That said, it seems he has made his decision on whether to continue the war or not, entirely on propaganda of course, but that's neither here nor there.
