Is Britain about to leave the EU?

The point of voting for the lesser evil is not to pretend like the lesser evil is actually good. It's to hope that the lesser evil will let some good happen, more than the other candidate, and that the society stays afloat until the next election in the hope that someone actually good appears by then.

You have been compromising with "lesser evil" since when. Mitterrand? Keep fooling yourself...

Personally ? My first vote was Hollande in 2012.
And you forget that there were 5 reasonably good years recently : 1997-2002 with Jospin at the helm were ok policy wise. So there was a time when there was a good candidate to vote for. It could happen again.

Owen, I don't really know anything about it. But in the case of English football it's obvious why these people don't want foreigners playing for the clubs. Can't have the good English boys and girls idolizing untermenschen.

Well, I've been compromising with "lesser evil" candidates over here in the States. I voted for Obama and I've been voting Democrats for Congress.

What, as a practical matter, should I do if I want to reject the "lesser evil" instead of compromising with it?

Just vote for Cthulhu already, Lexicus.
Good grief. Some of those policies are lunatic.
The even worse thing is that it actually happened - First Great Western is indeed now called Great Western Railway once again.
A momentous change indeed.
National anything is a big sign of Nazi involvement to me
Brazilian national football team…

Erm, no, just no. How well informed are you regarding the beautiful game?

Vote for some lesser candidate, even if you think that candidate has no chance? Every change in ideas, every change in politics, starts with a small group. It may or may not spread - but if nobody even tries and settles for the "lesser evil" then, and only then, nothing changes for the better.

I did spread feeling of the Bern as best I could. Bernie lost, time to go with the next best thing.

Well enough to know why UKIP is making a political issue out of it. And well enough to know that European football is plagued with racism.

Guess you missed where I said I'll be voting for Jill Stein.

Also, I'm working on a number of campaigns in DC including paid family leave, $15 min wage (which recently passed, but excludes tipped workers), and better transparency in the local government...I'm also working for a labor union full-time.

I think all those things are better ways of working to improve the world than voting for no-chance candidates.

Well, yes, football across Europe is used to vent feelings of injustice against whomever the target of the day is. And UKIP, like any ridiculous party of their type, go for anything that's popular.

Actually, there's another reason. Some English clubs field no English players at all. Where else do you expect the game to flourish? England as a national side are… well, mid-table rubbish.

A French leftist who isn't massively outraged at the Loi Travail (outraged enough to, say, strike and riot) doesn't sound like much of a leftist to me

Brazilian national football team…

Well it is currently terrible and the Brazil shirt is now associated with right-wingers here, so the Nazis can have that one

Riot

What, by myself, or with the other ten people in DC who'd be down?

Gandhi started by himself
the Suffragettes started with about 10 people chained to fences and throwing rocks through windows

so you would be in good company :D

Yeah...I'm not really the guy who organizes protests. I go to them. A protest organized by me would be a very pathetic affair.

Or you could do something really photogenic, like that Ukrainian feminist group who enjoy protesting topless, leading to the brilliant picture of Merkel looking uncomfortable alongside Putin and Berlusconi who are massively perving out.
That made the news.

Wasn't this thread about Brexit at one point?

Yes it is, but we don't know whether Britain will leave the EU (let alone how, given that the government never made any plans) so while they make up their minds we can while away our time over a cup of tea or two, can't we?

Exactly, I'm awaiting further developments with great interest.

The problem, which the article I just linked to only hints at, is that almost the entire British ruling class are completely out of touch with reality. First, they supposed the masses were so stupid that they would do as they were told, ergo, they'd vote Remain and carry on. Now they've realised that the masses are so stupid that they voted as they were told, i.e. they voted Leave and are carrying on, they suddenly realise they have to do something; the neocon-freetrade autopilot is now going away… Johnson campaigned for Leave while he voted Remain. May wanted to Leave but campaigned for Remain. Gove… well, you're out, Mikey. Faradge is also down. Is there anyone from the Leave camp willing to take over? I'd nominate Edward for PM, then.

On the other hand, Labour appear to be slowly getting their act together.

It should be move to "Greater Germany" :mischief:
