I wonder if you think that more on principle than on your natural reaction to the aesthetic of the flag. While I agree with your argument and while I agree California does break the basic rules of most all quality flags, the actual California bear flag actually ends up looking pretty damn good. And it comes across looking like a proper flag even with its big, featured picture.Sucks. No words on the flag. Bear is too complicated.

I disagree and attribute your approval of the California state flag to the fact that you live there or some similar garbage.I wonder if you think that more on principle than on your natural reaction to the aesthetic of the flag. In most cases, their checklist would seem to be pretty consistent with what most people find intuitively attractive or unnattractive. The Missouri flag seems to be the exception that proves the rule.Yeah, I really don't care what any organizations think about rules for flags. Ours has a seal, writing, and a bunch of colors and I like it just fine, so stuff what some flag society thinks.

Let's see about that:

SWEET LORD IT BURNS!!!!!!!!!!!!
In all its glory! It's actually the old heraldic flag from Calvert, Lord Baltimore. The flag was originally just the gold and black part, but the strong secessionist movement during the Civil War (if you will recall, it required the arrest of our House of Delegates and occupation of Baltimore, with cannons pointed directly at downtown, to keep us in the Union) adopted the red and white part of the coat of arms as their flag. After the war there was a big reconciliation thing in the state so they put the two back together for our new flag.
Either flag would have been just fine, but mashing them together, with no common colors or themes, is just too much. The East Roman flag is a perfect example of how to merge two different patterns like this (repeated from earlier in this thread, I think):

Similar geometry and the same crimson in both parts helps pull it together.

Well like I said, it was also Lord Baltimore's heraldic banner. We had broken it up for the original flag, the Rebs used the other half, and we decided to reunite them as they were originally in a big state-wide group hug after the war.
What do you mean? It has a horrible flag with a bucnh of stripes and a blue corner with lots of stars.
That's just the flag employed by the Palaiologoi; nobody else used either the cross or the BBBB. The labarum is probably a more representational banner, although it was never heraldic. The East Roman flag is a perfect example of how to merge two different patterns like this (repeated from earlier in this thread, I think):

Looks ugly as crap. One or the other would've been much better. I'm okay with Maryland's flag looking terrible because I'm not a fan of Maryland in general and the Baltimore Murderers (who have the flag on their jerseys) in particular.Well like I said, it was also Lord Baltimore's heraldic banner. It makes a cool statement about unity and all, but it's still a serious eyesore. In all its glory! It's actually the old heraldic flag from Calvert, Lord Baltimore. Aaah, I don't hate the Fake Browns, so it's not a full set. But I dislike thugball intensely and am sick and tired of the DC-area hick announcers for CBS who fellate the Murderers in general and praise Flacco every time he completes a checkdown. And the Rapists just have an annoying fanbase; it's like disliking the Cowgirls or the Cheatriots.I have to say, your very consistent hating on Cincy's division rivals gives me a much better view of Saints fans.
Stupid Ray Lewis.I'm proud to say that I understand that joke.
