Is this board dying?

As long as there are two people left to bicker about what one of them didn't say, the board probably won't utterly expire.

We should change the thread title to ‘is this board dead yet?’
How can it be dead, when even Jehoshua has returned?
 I never really left, there just hasn't been anything I've felt the need to comment on lately.
Well, we'll have to find something.
Well that's funny, just yesterday i thought "wow this must be one of the most active forums i ever saw". (not visiting over hyped places)
We do what we can.

I disagree.

You said exactly this just half a dozen posts back:

We now have to contend

"Have to" Your words, not mine. You flat out acknowledged that we don't do anything but compulsively bicker.

The OT board is very much dominated by American politics.

It's time to split Politics to its own board, so that OT can be truly OT, not some Trump vs. [something he doesn't like] debate or some [insert ideologue here] tweeted something stupid thread.

Once politics is placed in a new subforum, it would be much easier to find interesting non-political topics. The Politics subforum can include topics such as "[insert popular movie or television show here] and misogyny" as well.

Arts & Entertainment could be split as well: one for fanfiction (including some Civ stories) and one for popular culture.

The Science and Technology forum could be merged into the new OT forum, while Sports could be merged with the new Popular Culture thread.

Finally, blame Snoo, the alien mascot of Reddit, for partially killing the vitality of this website (despite me being on Reddit as Civ_God_of_Kings).

This doesn't seem very true. There's 3 threads explicitly about Trump on the first page and 3 more that are related to Trump. 6 out of 45 does not seem like a particularly overbearing number of threads that would make it difficult for someone to find a thread about something else.

It was during the American election and shortly afterwards.

Now, it's not as much, but there should be a Politics subforum regardless.

"First we split off topic and then split it again. Then it will truly die!"

But those 6 threads are definitely where a good chunk of the current posting activity is.

What would shoving those six threads into an independent sub-forum do positively for OT if that's where everyone is posting?

Oh I'm not saying one way or the other regarding a potential split, I'm just pointing out that just because there are only 6 threads about Trump and American politics doesn't mean OT isn't dominated by American political discussion.

Forum relativism... One man's "dead" is another man's "thriving"

I think the OP basically says... "I think the forum is dying because people aren't posting enough threads"

Which to me implies the unsaid caveat... "about the things I want to talk about."
Well there are a lot of boring threads. Hence I start my own when I'm so inspired.

Just put everything back together so we can cross-comment without switching sub-forums. If we wanted segregation we'd go to reddit.

Good luck getting some Civ posters to check out the Colosseum. Some people come and stay (I did), but others have a look, see all the Trump threads (or whoever the president is that year), and back away.

The various Civ game players tend to prefer their own subforums. It would be interesting to see some Civ-fiction (Civfic?) in A&E, but it would take a lot of convincing to get them to post there, probably.

Each Civ has a story sub-forum already. It'd be likely that any Civ story would simply be moved from A&E to whichever game it's for.

Unless the author agreed to let it stay in A&E, or possibly be posted in both places or at least linked. It's even possible that a Civ player might post in A&E from the get-go.

If any story ideas occur to me regarding my own games, I'd sooner post them in A&E, and would object to them being moved without permission. I rarely visit the Civ II forums anymore.

Likewise, I can see a part of A&E split off to create the Popular Culture forum, Sports being merged into the Popular Culture forum, and some of the pop culture threads in OT (such as the YouTube thread, the movies thread (and their specific threads), and threads for specific seasons of television shows) can be moved to the new forum as well.

"First we split off topic and then split it again. Then it will truly die!"
But what if it behaves like a starfish and we get a new vibrant forum out of each little severed part?

Dare we risk it?
