ITNES I - An Epoch of Change

Hey! You didn't move my fleet back from the gibraltar... :( other than that nice update ;)

And yes, I should have been more precise on that but I'm not perfect.

I have noticed how there seems to be no or little conflict in East Asia and constant warfare in Europe.

What is going on over there? :)

Nice Update das

They're all busy colonizing the new world or is fighting elsewhere (central asia and south asia) :p

Great update das!

Out of curiosity, what are Inuit doing on the southern coast of Alaska? There should be Haida, Tlingit and Aleuts there, but why Inuit? Did the POD make them move south or something?

Greetings. We have heard rumors of your generousity and good standing and we wish to, in light of your recent expansion, craft treaties and smoke pipes of peace with you

Heh, what an amazing update. I'd say my diplo-fu is strong, but in this case it was hardly needed ;).

das you seemed to have gotten my plan quite well :), my only problems would be the attrition to the invaders landing on the south coast (I'd say the [Secret] would have made landings very difficult), but that is a matter of mod iterpretation of effects rather than not getting the plan.

We await your retreat, apology, repartions, and dissolution.

We would like to continue trade relations with you, but this would be difficult if you continue to slaughter our nations merchents.

Well. I thought maybe I could last this turn, but this was not particularly unexpected. So, who's free (and good)?

We will only retreat if you issue an apology for the attacks you carried out last turn and Khemeria and Parahae both retreat from my territory.

@Das- Wonderful update. Now, how did Nortugal manage to sell Manahatta to the Algonquian Confederation when I own Manahatta. Secondly, please change the way you fill in Sunrise (Bermuda) back to the way you had it before. The current way of displaying it is a gross over-simplification, and an innacurate one at that. Niklas and myself agreed that I would get the Main Island and associated smaller islands while he would get OTL Saint George's Island, OTL Saint David's Island, and the associated smaller islands. That places myself controling a more south portion and Niklas controlling a more northerly portion. Finally, I might point out that Northern Quebec should be inhabited by Inuit, not Naskapi, beyond the tree line. Many thanks and, again, wonderful update.

I'm honored that little essay of tactics and strategy, The Art of War, I wrote so long ago for Prince Jingxi is mentioned in the update :D Of course, the author is believed to have died in battle so that does say something about the effectiveness of it... :(

go Gaul:
Why have you invaded Punicia?! Are you by any chance planning to be their replacer? Aggressiveness? We cannot allow that! If you break treaties with them after we have all beat them into nothing, we cannot trust you, again.

From: The Gaelic Empire
To: Nortugal

Ah, yes. Let us first examine this "treaty," the Treaty of Italcart that the former Punic Empire supposedly signed with Gaul, the DIE, Nortugal, and Cimberland.

---

The Punic Empire refused to decrease their military, and vastly increased its size, placing them in violation of Article 2 of the Treaty of Italcart.

The Punic Empire failed to pay any indemnity for war damages whatsoever to the Gaelic Empire and Cimberland as decided, placing them in violation of Article 3 of the Treaty of Italcart.

The Punic Empire failed to dismantle the fortifications in Iberia, placing them in violation of Article 5 of the Treaty of Italcart.

And the Punic Empire, instead of giving their promised protection to Solist missionaries, gave aid and comfort to their murderers, placing them not simply in violation of Article 4 of the Treaty of Italcart, but endorsing a disgusting act of depravity tantamount to attacking Sol Himself.

---

We hope that this justification satisfies your holy disposition. And in addition, we demand that Nortugal issue an immediate apology for the dishonorable, surprise attack on our fleet, and the merciless slaughter of our sailors without a declaration of hostilities, in addition to 2,000,000 silver Invictii as compensation.
The Gaelic Empire reminds Nortugal that it is they who have initiated hostilities, and that the supposedly "enlightened" atheists are stooping to meddle in the affairs of Sol. We bore no ill will towards Nortugal or her interests, prior to your pathetic attempt at asserting regional hegemony and naval supremacy.

And you accuse us of aggression? Your hypocrisy is pathetic.

to Gaul:
How can the Punicians keep up their treaty and send money to Gaul if they are being invaded by Gaul?

oh and Nortugal will pay nothing. Instead of getting your fleet sunk all the time you can just start building it right. It's your fault for getting it sink so easily again and again. If it wasn't for us that the Punic pirates in the bay of Gaul would... (lol). Weak...

(ooc: I sent orders - if Gaul invades Punicia, invade their island, that means you invaded Punicia, thats all).

to Caledonia:
We assume our NAP is still true?

@Das- Oh, I forgot, but I should mention that portraying my expansion as being hampered by the peoples being related to the Algonquian Confederation and not myself makes no sense. The peoples that make up my kingdom all speak Algonquian languages, and in fact belong to a subgroup that is closer related to the coastal New England peoples than the Mohegans that the Algonquian Confederation is centered on. If the Massachusett and others chose which nation to join based on ethnic and linguistic relations, then they should have joined myself, not the AC. The whole premise is entirely ridiculous.

We sincerely apologize for the deaths of your merchants, as our actions had completely unintended consequences. Of course, we also formally request that you cease all attempts to spread your religion within Gaul's borders.

Perhaps you fail to understand our point. The Punic Empire was destroyed because they failed to adhere to the terms of the treaty. It was obviously clear from the signing that they never had any intention of honoring the provisions.

With that said, we cease all diplomatic relations with Nortugal, due to their illegal and unjust destruction of our navy, until such a time as the Gaelic Empire receives an apology and compensation.

Das, how come no mention of my economic reforms? Did they do anything?

If your stats are unchanged, they indeed were all in vain. ;)

Although I disagree with das on a lot of tactical/stratigic points it would seem

Your tactics and strategy would've worked much better in the modern times. This, however, is the Medieval era; and as in OTL, though perhaps for different reasons, in Europe this means that cavalry reigns supreme.

What is going on over there?

What ThomAnder said, plus economic warfare and perhaps a little something clandestine...

There should be Haida, Tlingit and Aleuts there, but why Inuit?

This is 430 AD. I am informed that the Inuits were chiefly concentrated in Alaska back then (as their great eastwards leap had mostly occured during the OTL Middle Ages).

Now, how did Nortugal manage to sell Manahatta to the Algonquian Confederation when I own Manahatta.

You own a missionary outpost there; it is still under your control. The rest was in Nortuguese hands prior to the purchase (they beat you to it five years ago during their grand old expansion spree).

Finally, I might point out that Northern Quebec should be inhabited by Inuit, not Naskapi, beyond the tree line.

See above.

Of course, the author is believed to have died in battle so that does say something about the effectiveness of it...

The doctor is ill.

If the Massachusett and others chose which nation to join based on ethnic and linguistic relations

Their decision was also based on greater long-term Algonquian (note: in this case I mean the Confederation) political and cultural pressure/influence, and the at least equally-strong economic ties. Furthermore, you have religious differences; the Algonquians are more traditional, and so are easier to trust from the viewpoint of the typically-traditionalist tribal elite.

Nice update, mostly because I didn't have to fight a civil war.

(My leader has the longest name ever! HAHA)

So, das, what NPCs have promise?
