It's About to Get Hot at the Border

30 is over 15% of all countries. That's a pretty good percentage. And as @Silurian says, this seems to be a big deal in th Americas. Not sure why.

if African countries also have it, It could be explained as all former colonies.
perhaps that still comes close enough.
Perhaps it has to do with former colonies that had huge natural resources compared to the low existing population and techs, and developing those colonies needed huge amounts of immigrants from Europe, also after becoming independent.
If I would emigrate to the US a century ago to seek my future in the US, I would for certain like to be a USian, and more so for my children born.
Birthright citizenship is catering that welcome feeling to draw more immigrants for faster growth on an emotional level AND helps to get the national loyalty of new immigrants.
Just like the importance of the US flag everywhere. Seems also a big deal. That is for me also something really weird.

The militia members said they plan to bring guns and equipment such as bulletproof vests and lend a hand to the Border Patrol to protect against people unlawfully entering the country.

"They're just laughing in our face," said Shannon McGauley, president of the Texas Minutemen. "It's a free-for-all in America."

I didn't realize this was a thing until this thread. I'm going to presume Trump is innocent of militia men literally quoting him verbatim about being laughed at when they do something stupid.

Furthermore since it has become abundantly clear in the last few years that immigration from the Central American nations has become an issue why would we not convene an international group involving all of North America and come up with a viable North American system of handling this problem? Starting with the violence in these nations in the first place? . . . I know globalist talk. I also realize this topic is just to good for republicans to let go, I realized that back when Sessions and his minion Miller killed the last great effort at immigration reform.

But, if they solve the problem, then they loose a major part of their platform! You can't campaign on immigration issues if the immigration system works ya know!

The Right want a King. In any same world, we would get a Congress to make any such amendment

That's a dance. Law enforcement is a gang. They have their motives, and usually can be hired.

the police department is like a crew, they do whatever they want to do~

The GOP doesn't want to solve problems. It wants to rant, obfuscate, and blame Democrats.
Exactly. For example, it is a well-known fact that the most corrupt organisation in Suharto's Indonesia was the Anti-Corruption Tribunal. If it had solved the state's corruption issues, it would have been disbanded by Suharto, whose penchant for "efficiencies" (cost-cutting) was well-known. So they actively promoted large-scale corruption while going after the small fry.

The Liberal Party in my home country was caught red-handed paying people smugglers money, thus encouraging them to smuggle refugees to Australia. This is because th Liberals campaign on a platform of stopping "boat people" (asylum seekers arriving at our island by boat), and they couldn't campaign on it if the boats actually stopped. Notice how the boats magically stopped until two months ago, during the leadership blow-up, when Peter Dutton, the Immigration Minister at the time, was campaigning to be the next PM? I bet that a boat magically shows up two weeks before next year's election as well.

I could probably quote a thousand examples of similar situations if I had the time. I can also quote examples in the other direction. The U.K. chose Churchill as PM to defeat the Nazis. He did. Then they voted for someone else. France elected De Gaulle as President to solve the Algerian Crisis and the country's other various foreign and domestic policy problems. He proceeded to solve the vast majority of them. They then got rid of him.

That is the point of America and definitely Texas. Why does he hate his freedom? Why wouldn't he want it free, for all?
But Hygro that's not what that m-
Yes, it is.

I believe the game theoretical move in an FFA where someone seeks to start offing the competition one at a time is for the others to team up and dog pile.

Slavery.

For the colonial period yes
But after the "formal" end of slavery, these countries still needed to attract lots of immigrants.

Canada is on that list, buddy. It practically ended in the 18th century, and loyalists fleeing the American Rvolution practically tripled the population of slaves in Quebec. I think Hrothbern has this one.

I'm still going with the 14th amendment primarily not being marketing ploy to attract european immigrants.
But that's just me.

Buddy... Canada is a bit of an outlier. Because jus soli is orginally from Common Law they just kept it, and... and this is the where Hrthbern's argument has a bit of credibility... for the longest time Canada actually had real trouble attracting immigrants (because they all preferred to got to the US), so it would have indeed made matters even worse if they had gotten rid of unrestricted jus soli.

If Canada could have warned people about Trump back then, there'd be a hell of a lot more Canucks now.

I agree with that primarily.
Seeking a future in the US or another country of the Americas was primarily a belief in a future.

Question: What does the EC do, and interests wise, what does it mean if a party manages to lose to its margin of power twice in 20? Why are Republicans fractious enough to encompass being the party of both Mr. Rogers and the WBC? Ryan and Assclown in Chief having it out right now is yawn-worthy routine.

That is just you. Since this whole bit about "you have to jump through hoops if you want to come live in the USA" is a pretty new innovation that didn't apply back then you have to discard it from influence on your thinking. The "anyone who wants to, come on over and enjoy the freedom as you exploit the land we're stealing from the natives" pitch was greatly strengthened by "and your offspring will automatically be full citizens and never have to worry about being sent away from the fruits of your labor."

This was especially appealing to the Irish, given the whole landlord situation there. Not that it didn't appeal to the peasantry all over Europe.

There was a time as a teenager when I was physically unwell, which in turn limited my physical and cognitive abilities. Cleaning up after myself became prohibitive. But when my mom tried to clean my stuff, the mental exertion and anxiety she’d mess it up was also too much to bear. Eventually she gave up but would need to vacuum. I would holler a storm so stressed she’d carelessly vacuum up my stuff rather than carefully vacuum around it it. She started vacuuming less as well. And when she read into treatments for me, only because she’d make me go to the doctor did I go as often as I did. Thank God she never gave up and we could return to a sometimes vacuumed home.
