Its the West thats starting this new Cold War [Times Online]

I meant how do I know you're really a Czeck... I know nothing about you and you know nothing about me so we could both argue the same thing.

The difference is that I really am 'just' a Czech.

(Though, for the record I am only half Russian. My dead was born in Kursk, I was born in Leningrad and my mother was born in Warsaw, Poland. Its odd being part Polish and part Russian, part of my wants to kill the other half and one part wants me to just invade and occupy the other with the help of my Prussian Friend, William ^^ )

I read that you live in the US, you said that in one of your posts. I just find it a bit strange when people who have lived in America for most of their life call their distant country of origin "my country".

If a person has a Russian heritage, and defines himself as Russian, he can be called a Russian, IMHO. It really depends on which definition of the word "nationality" do you use...

Yes, I know what you mean and you have a point. But you should also speak the language and know the culture and traditions of the country you want to be a part of, otherwise you're just a poseur.

It is wrong if they see the Soviet times as the era of their greatness.

Imagine that Germans would still think that the Third Reich was the best time they've ever had. What would you think about that?

Under your logic an American cannot be proud their Founding Fathers whom fought for and won the war of independence and created an democratic state because they also practiced slavery and oppressed the natives.

I dont see why a German person that is proud of the achievements of brilliant people like Wernher von Braun would automatically be a Nazi

IMHO, being proud of what ones nation and people have achieved does not mean that you support everything they did.

What if they were proud of the whole era? Something like "umm yes, not all was pefect, I don't like the Holocaust and stuff like that, but otherwise, the Third Reich was great!"

I am sure half of the world would be totally outraged by such attitude. So why we ignore the fact that many Russians see the Soviet era in the same way?

I never said that.

We never said that either.
