K8: MONSTER MAP - 362x362 map with 24 civs

Monday's fine... as long as I get it before Tuesday morning, I should be able to play/post by Tuesday afternoon, as I will be out of town then until Thursday afternoon. This shouldn't affect the team as Stapel has said that the game should be there, but I will not be able to contribute to any discussion during that time.

Pre turn! What do we see? What do we do?

Emperor StapelII takes over reign from Killer in 590AD. He is quite angry  as No ONE has met new civs since Emperor StapelI died. angry ? no disappointed! Especially since post 189 contains a nice hint :( .

His first action? Change temple production in Brandenburg to galley. The galley was hurried by the whip. One of the sons of Emperor Killer became a victim of this, but Stapel didn’t care ;).
He already could see the borders of a new empire to the southwest. He even could see the new land could be reached safely.

Seriously guys and girls, How could you possibly have missed that????? This border was clearly visible on my 270AD save!

I like the ‘Hannover might flip so we will retake it horsemen’
Hmmm, we have many units, costing upkeep, so building more workers might be a bad idea imho, though we have some serious jungle bashing to go! We make one in Madrid anyway.
We have just finished a useless road outside any citybox…southwest of Valencia.
We have a worker chopping a forest outside any citybox…west of Valencia.
We are mining a irrigated field near new leipzig, while many other tiles of the same type don’t have roads are whatever….

590 AD. Worker actions, horsemen keep track on jerry settlers. Galley goes south.
600 AD. Galley goes south ans discovers Zululand. We trade world maps. The zulus only have contact with the Persians. The have Monarchy to offer. I don’t like giving things away, so I wait one turn before buying contact with the Persians. Maybe the Persians will buy contact with us for a tech from the Zulus. Important: To the northwest of the newland, which has lots of dyes and one iron, we see more land that can be reached safely!
610 AD. The zulus contacted us: we need to leave… We will establish contact with Persia next turn ourselves.
620 AD. One of our galleys sunk up north, Berlin & Toledo needed some entertainment. Too bad! Should have checked that…. Research to 30%, engineering in 1 turn. We meet Xerxes: he knows the secrets of Republic. As the zulus don’t have code of laws, they will not trade republic, so we will not get it for free from TGL. We could sell contacts to Romans / Americans and hope for it. I decide to buy Republic for world map, literature, currency, construction and 180 gold. Quite a price, but, when giving away contacts, they will get the same….. The Persians, scientific, have monotheism now, We have a ROP with them now, so our galley can sail on. We get 80 gold and a worldmap for it. They will not reach us the next 20 turns…..
630 AD. New Hamburg has built a….catapult. Didn’t notice: sorry. We go into anarchy! Auto government in all cities for a turn now.
640 AD. TGL gives us Monarchy, so we can make a choice: Monarchy or Republic: I choose Republic. Auto government on, Autogoverment off, Science to 30%. Feudalism in 8 turns, 104 gpt.
650 AD. Do we need to make peace with the Romans? Now that we are a Republic? I do not know! Temple hurried in Brandenburg. Frankfurt and Stuttgart are corrupt: try to trigger WLT :king: D
660 AD. WLT :king: D triggered in S&F :D
670 AD. Greeks build Cappela Sistina.
680 AD. Carthago has Leo…..
690 AD.
700 AD.
710 AD. Science to 20%, Feudalism in 1 turn
720 AD. Save. Feudalism researched. Research starts on invention, nothing done yet. We have discovered a new island, so far only desert.

It is yours Borealis. BTW it is like 3am in Michigan now!

Thanks for speeding up the game. Really great

Stapels magic mystery border found!

K8.jpg

where's the border, where is it?????????

seriously, on my rather old screen I looked at it and didn't see it....

but: Ctrl-Shift-M helped.....

hehe, stapel explained how he found it:

he assumed (smartly, but erraneously), that the whale must be near land.

Now, that map was made by me, and the rule whale=land is only true for maps fom the CivEdit generator, as I modded it, I didn't givce a damn about the whale... We may even encounter whales in the open sea, after all......

Good thinking, stapel! You couldn't know I fooled with the map and you were right: ther eIS land there :D

Yup, the Whale triggered me to look carefully. BTW: on my screen, the border (that appeared to be Zulu) was clearly visible, without the CTRL shift M trick.

Killer: When sailing around our island, we see no fish or whale, unless there is land nearby........

720 AD (0): Badajoz is undefended :nono: so it is swapped to spear in order to avoid :smoke: AI war demands/sneak attacks.

Germany's spear is told to leave or declare war: he leaves.

Cities: Leipzig is rioting, and Frankfurt has a few entertainers fired to speed its courthouse. Most every city is being controlled by governors, usually a :nono: in SGs, so I'm assuming I missed a rule change, so I let the governor 'manage citizen moods' in our cities. Lt. Killer, could we have an official ruling on this? I'm assuming that it's done to speed up the game, but I'm still leery of doing it.

Cities start markets, aqueducts, and build infrastructure while the galleys explore. Nothing of note happens, and the AI is still researching slowly. In 780 AD, Rome and America make peace.
In 800 AD, we discover Invention, and start Gunpowder. Persia has Monotheism, but no other civ is in the Middle Ages that we have contact with. Rome wants us to pay him tech or money for peace now- Caesar must have legions. We're researching at the max possible rate without a deficit, and should continue doing so. We need to find Greece and Egypt before they get too far ahead of us.

Nice going Miss B.

I didn't notice about Badajoz. I fully agree this is a:nono: . The risk wasn't high, as no AI can reach us.

I got Frankfurt into KLTKD, but that didn't help much..... So I guess you are right to fire the entertainers.

About the autogovernment: I didn't know there are rules about it. Anyway: I always micromanage a lot. To avoid riotting during a 'regime change' I always set citizen mood management on auto before changing gov, to switch it off again after the revolution. It is quite likely I made a mistake I guess. :wallbash:

to clarify:

NEVER use the gov, unless you KNOW you will need it during a revolution.

Turn it OFF under ANY circumstances once new gov form is found!

Ok. Sorry. What I normally do after new gov: turn on autogov (again) and then turn it off. Then mm where needed. I think I first turned it off and then turned it on. dumb me!
Stapel :repuke: Stapel

Aggie: you are up I think!

aggie: would you please take over the running of this SG? I do not really feel like going to CFC lately....

I will still play and check the thread, but I simply do not want to do muhc in this place anymore.....

btw, this will be the last game of the K-series run on CFC, from now on they will be elsewhere ;)

Sure Killer! Don't worry about that. Me and Stapel will keep this thing going ;).

I must say I'm sorry to hear that you won't be spending as much time as you did at CFC. But I am convinced that you found a nice new home. I like it there as well :)

EDIT: this will be something for tomorrow at the earliest...

aggie: thanx!

I simpl got fed up with radical, nationalistic, intolerant people and other things here..... :(

Sad turns of events indeed, who will throw the minions pearls of wisdom like turning on governors during changes in governments?

CB: as I said: unless you KNOW you will need it ;) If I know I will get a tech 'between turns', e.g. from Great Lib, and go for revolution right away, but have flip-prone cities that may NOT riot under any circumstances, THEN, and ONLY THEN will I turn on the gov for them ;)
