K8: MONSTER MAP - 362x362 map with 24 civs

This is 'got it' for probable late in the 48, if no one else who hasn't played recently wants to do a quick 10 turns within the next 24 hours, as it will be at least a day before I get a chance to look at the game (I'm currently feasting on two SGs and writing up my report for Epic 25). I'll check the thread for anyone who wants to drop in before I start playing.

Huh? Why not irrigate 2 tiles south east? That one is inside the Heidelberg tiles......

This is NOT going like baking pretzels... ;) 15 minutes per turn on my 1Ghz - 256Mb PC....

My priorities will be: city improvements, galleys, workers, military in that order. But first priority: get the Germans to declare war!

Turn 1 (280 AD) I politely ask the Germans to leave our territory. They say they will do so... Luxury to 20%->110 gpt

IT: The Romans and Germans, known as our best friends, learn us Construction...

Turn 2 (290 AD) Zzzz

Turn 3 (300 AD) Embassy in Washington for 74 gpt. America has not very long to live.... Nor iron, no horses... Next victim???

IT: A Roman galley tries to sink our galley...and fails. Another one appears...

Turn 4 (310 AD) Germany was given as choice: leave or war. They decided to leave...Galley north of America goes on a suicide mission to avoid a battle vs a Roman galley.

IT: The suicide galley sinks

Turn 5 (320 AD) Another suicide galley gos east from Teruel.

EDIT: here's 320 AD save . I've got a lot to do (PBEM's etc...) So I give you the opportunity to 'get it'...

Oh man! I didn't think even one second about lux!
btw, I think you have a fair chance to reach land southwest from our main island, since a galley can travel 4 turns.

I have it, and I'll start playing 10 within the hour.

P.S. The appropriate gendered pronoun to use when referring to me is "her", by the way. ;)

hmm, i have never heard of girls playing civ 3 before. nothing wrong with it though.

Btw, what are you wearing? :rotfl: :rotfl: Just kidding, Just kidding.

320 AD (0): Wow, it's been a long time since I played in this game. Diplo check reveals that the Germans have Philosophy, and no one else has any tech worth grabbing. With the research rate this slow and this much cash on hand (1867g!), I restart research on Polytheism, due in 14 turns at 20% as opposed to 34 turns at 10%. Max research would get it in 8 turns, but this way we are still making 84 gpt. We're running 20% luxuries, which is troubling, and I shave it down to 10% by giving Santiago an entertainer and MMing it to stop growing- it's not going to be allowed to grow again until after it gets a Colosseum. It's size 11 already. Madrid will need an entertainer when it grows again, but that's not surprising as it will be size 11, and can wait to build its Colosseum. This bumps our income up from 84 gpt to 110gpt, which is definitely worth a few entertainers.

Also, unless a city is about to hit size 8, or is hopelessly corrupt, it should get a courthouse before a colosseum. Courthouses will speed the construction of the colosseum, and cathedrals are preferable in any case, should we get them in enough time. Multiple cities are prioritized to do this.

Cities without defenders are swapped to build ones, and cities with only a warrior defender are swapped to build spears unless the project under construction is much farther along. Cities without defenders=weedy AI war declarations, and hinder trade. Defenders are nice to have upgrade paths for, especially if we get Sun Tzu, which would be great on our huge continent. Cities building libraries that don't have temples are swapped to temples.

Valladoid is building a worker, when it won't grow in 6 turns. Please don't do this. :smoke:

I demand that Bizzy move his troops, and he does- I think he's determined not to bust his own rep, or commit suicide by provoking war. We have 15 turns left on the peace treaty, and he may make contact with the other AI by then, but with the Great Library, that is GOOD. If Korea has already built the Hanging Gardens, then the other AI should by much farther ahead, or at least at tech parity, when we find them. I'm not going to give away contact with Germany, but it won't be the end of the world if the Romans or Americans find them before they die.

(IT): Nothing happens, but it takes me ~3-4 minutes on my computer to wait for everything to move. Turning off all animations but battles helps!

330 AD (1): Biz moves his settler pairs out again. Horses are fortified until I have something to do with them, as Biz is being rational. Madrid gets an entertainer for 3 turns until its Colosseum completes.

340 AD (2): Usual demand & response from Biz- this will qualifiy as  until he actually refuses. I try founding 'Vigo' and the settler goes to kneel... but the error message says 'Too many cities.'

Abe has Philosophy... which means we'll get it from the Great Library in 1 turn. Both Biz and Abe are going the Republic route! :goodjob:

350 AD (3): Philosophy pops from the Great Library. German settler/spear pairs appear to be backing off from our territory in some places.

(IT): We lose several suicide galleys.

360 AD (4):

370 AD (5):

380 AD (6):

390 AD (7):

400 AD (8): Rome has Polytheism, and will probably go for Construction- I keep research on, as we'll get it in 4 turns anyway. However, Currency should be our next project, as the Americans and Germans seem to be heading towards Republic, and Rome will probably head towards Monarchy.

(IT): Biz wants to trade World Maps. Silly Biz.

410 AD (9): Slider adjusted to get Polytheism in 1.

420 AD (10): Polytheism discovered; Currency started at max possible research, due in eight turns. Although we could get more gold and get it in eight turns, the price might drop- leave it at max possible without a deficit. We have over 2k gold right now, and we need to catch up with the civs we haven't met yet.

@Aggie: Don't worry- many others have made that mistake before, and I'm well aware that most Civ3 players online are male. I just wanted to clear confusion up in my case.

@bewareofgnomes: Do the names Moonsinger and Chieftess ring a bell? Tread carefully. ;)

We have lots of cash, we have got the Great Library, we can research ourselves... problems, problems. What a strange game.

Once we're in the middle ages I think it's obvious that we do the research in the bottom half of the tree, to at least have some benefit of TGL...

very nice playing, Borealis! I especially like the preturn adjustments.....

roster:
me
Chieftess
Stapel
Borealis
Aggie (I take it you are very busy?)
meli (can you take it?)
swiftsure

RL crisis semi-contained, any chance of getting back in

Nice going Borealis. Too bad about the galleys. Contacts would help a lot!.
Normally I would set science to zero, when TGL is mine, but with these amounts of cash and only two and a half other civs known, this is ok: I really like your deduction on 'what is the AI researching'.

Q: Where is the german settlers / spearman combi up north? Keep it within attack range! Peace will be over in 5 turns!
Q: Are we still at war with the Romans?
Tip: when disbanding Burgos, a city I created to avoid the AI from building one, we are able to build a city on a spot we really like???
