CB: as I said: unless you KNOW you will need it ;) If I know I will get a tech 'between turns', e.g. from Great Lib, and go for revolution right away, but have flip-prone cities that may NOT riot under any circumstances, THEN, and ONLY THEN will I turn on the gov for them ;)

If you do get to change governments unexpectedly and have a city go into disorder, when you go to the city to deal with the disorder, turn on the governor for the rest of your empire. :) Then only one city goes into disorder. ;)

[Sorry for the thread jack. I'll fade out now....]

Sorry BoG, but Killer is NOT leaving. He won't be managing this SG, but he will play.

All, here's the roster:

Killer
Stapel
Borealis
Aggie (up now - playing today, I hope)
meli (on deck)
swiftsure

In the most important demographics categories, we are number one! We are also technologically advanced! I'm not too worried about the Greeks. We will get their techs with TGL.

In the first turns I switched all governors off.

850 AD IT:
Did we know China? Well they contact us and also know the Idians. Mao has monotheism and gunpowder! I buy the India contact and wm for Our contacts and 110 gold.
Next on the list are the Koreans. The offer Ivory for Spices and 5gpt. Deal! :)
Then Egypt comes for contact. Offers us monotheism...not interested!
Carthage is next on the list. also offers monotheism... We give spices for 25 gpt and world map.
Greece offers us....monotheism! Nooooo. We give them spices for 14 gpt and word map.

860 AD:
TGL gives us monotheism, theology, chivalry, education, gunpowder, banking, astronomy AND chemistry. [dance]
All cities producing wealth switched to university. Established embassies in all new known civs'capitals.

I sell all contacts to everyone before other civs can do so.
This gives me 50 gpt, dyes and furs. Lux goes to 0% and income jumps another 100 gpt. Income is 401 gpt.

Science to Music Theory (in 8), to get Bach with our palace pre-build in Barcelona. I think Bach will be worth every effort.

6 more turns to go... (3 hours?)

lurker's comment: One other thing I found out about governors (it may be common knowledge already): if you set the government to manage citizen moods in a city that was just captured, the city won't riot when the resistance is quelled. After that, you can just put them on your regular starvation diet again. This means you can rushbuild stuff in your new town a turn faster. [lurk]

The age of sail has started. We are now able to travel on sea squares! I rush a couple of Caravels.

870AD: The Koreans build Magellan. Hey, that's our UU tech!

By the way: we have saltpeter! :D

Korea and Carthage have Navigation. Since this will allow us to cross the ocean and allow us to trigger the GA, I pay up big time: 2140 gold for the tech.
Building a conquistador.

880 AD:
Iron is not for trade. We need it badly for our railroads! Our conquistador finished. I'm going to trigger our Golden Age by attacking the Germans. We need the universities to keep up in science. Carthage and Korea have Metallurgy already!

Our income jumps to 837 gpt!

890 AD:
Heidelberg falls.
We contact Russia. A backward civilization. However, they give us contact with the Celts and their world map for engineering.
The Celts have nothing to offer.

The Koreans pay us Music Theory, 20 gpt for the contacts. Barcelona switched to Bach.
Contacts and 90 gpt give us Metallurgy from Carthage.
The Egyptians pay 17 gpt for the info.

Next tech: Military Tradition.

900 AD:
Barcelona finishes Bach. :)
During the battle of Hamburg we get a leader!!! This leader is sent to Bremen to build Magallan's voyage (extra movement of naval units)

910AD:
Hamburg captured.

We are in the Golden Age and killed the Germans. I have 5 ships discovering the world.
Please check the diplomacy before playing, I didn't do that.
We lack iron, something we desperately need for railroads. We could go to war vs Rome and America to acquire it...

Our world as we know it:

aggie, you son of a gun got the best turns i the game, the ones where the contacts come in! Wonderfull playing :D

Is meli still in? i thought his last post said he had to drop this SG

Only managed to get 5 turns done i'm afraid but here they are.

Inherited turn; i can only see 1 source of iron on the roman/american continent and that can be secured by building a city on the hills to the south east and then expanding. We would also have to disband one of our own cities.
Of course we are still at war with rome so we would have to make peace to be safe. Do we still need the reverse WW?. i decide to change logrono to caravel and zaragoza to settler. also change madrid to Cops. MM to fire all the entertainers we have as we dont need them.

930ad. logrono caravel heads to zaragosa to pick up settler, spear and horseman. another caravel hurried in logrono for extra troops

940ad logrono caravel follows caravel with settler.

950ad one of our exploring caravels meets the iroquois. we trade contact with egypt and greece for contact with ottomans and arabs.trade contact with rome and carthage for their world map.

trade contact with ottomans,w/m and 1600gp to carthage for physics.

trade education to persia for 8gpt,w/m and 40gp

trade engineering to iroquois for 5gpt and 13gp

trade contact with ottomans to korea for w/m and 220gp

960ad trade 1420gp to carthage for economics. change murcia to smiths

970ad carthage completes Cops in hippo. discover MT and start TOG.

murcia changed to bank and madrid changed to smiths.

Caravel contacts aztecs. trade contact with carthage and greece for contact with mongols and babylon. Trade contact with russia and rome for w/m.

Iron is available from rome but it is very expensive. Next up can decide if they want to buy it.
