Lego Appreciation Thread (split off from Random Raves XLII)

My Lego castle had a real portcullis and drawbridge, had two hinged sections, various soldiers and the like, but it had red and yellow pennants I think and didn't have any red bricks included.

Okay, I actually got it confused, but I managed to find the first set:

I must have gotten the black dragon later, but I also don't remember ever having a green dragon.

Anyway my favorite sets were these two:

The Black castle i had was ok, but it wasn't the largest castle (i was 12, i wanted the LARGEST castle  ).

I'll see if i can find a pic of that. Probably was out of stock or something.

Edit: I can't find it. Likely i repressed how it looked :D

Another look at the one i had:

An issue was that this didn't have that many soldiers. Just four knights, six footmen, one thief (semi-usable as sacrificial object in my games) and a ridiculously stupid and useless 'phantom'.

OK I found it. This is the one I really had. I had confused myself at first but this is the one I had, not that other one... I remember it because my set didn't have any horses but it did have the battering ram. Also I remember the blue and white pennants along with the red and yellow pennants and the guys with red uniforms. The last thing I remember about it was that it clearly had two opposing sides:

It is amazing going back and seeing how many sets of these things there were :crazyeye:

I recall that set, though i never had it. :)

I had a rocket set that I am pretty sure is part of the City set line. It was pretty awesome.

I had a space shuttle that was also cool but I don't think it's part of the City line.

I got a Saturn V for Christmas and it's pretty amazing.

I used to use those cylindrical engine pieces to build giant (roughly 20 minifigs in height) ballistic missiles.

Also, since it seems the right place to put it: I used to spend a lot of time on this site.

He's got a lot of cool stuff on there, custom-made LEGOs, comics made with LEGO minifigs, he also sells instructions for his own LEGO creations.

My sister and I had plenty of City Lego, but I always more fond of the mediaeval theme. :)

I had about three and a half tonnes of assorted lego, yet i always kept running out of the 2x4 blocks when i got to building the third floor walls of my mansion.

When you say the third floor, do you mean the third storey?

Sometimes, i usually used various base pieces for each floor and layed them on top of each other,. While they didn't snap onto the lower floors, they made playing with the first two floors much easier. Otherwise the whole thing would come apart when i tried to open it. Kinda made staircases a little complicated though....

I would love to have a space port in my city. Mind you right now all I have is a pickup truck so we're still along way away from that. Would be so fun to build the Saturn V, got any pics of that?

I always wanted one of the pirate galleons, but that was never to be. :(

That's a sweet looking ship. Wouldn't look out of place in my city's port.

My best German friend invited me over to play once. He had a LEGO ROOM. All full of giant bins full of lego. I couldn't wrap my head around it. I can't begin to describe how much all that lego must have cost. Tens of thousands of deutsche marks?? Pure insanity

Yeah it was this exact set actually

I just finished putting together my set and it took about 45-60 minutes and was very relaxing. $20 CAD well spent! Massages are more expensive than this

Mind you my left leg did fall asleep and when I stood up I almost took out my back somehow. I guess LEGOs might have been made for kids after all

I had that set, it was awesome. All the original castle stuff was really cool. They retired it and brought it back later, then retired it again and now it's some stupid power ranger looking crap. They ruined it.

Legos are very awesome but since they sold out to all the licensed character stuff they've lost a bit of their shine imo. Yes star wars sets are sweet but I greatly miss the original lego themes like space (I don't mean the very original space but all the incarnations like m-trong, black-tron, ice world dudes), their own castle and pirates.

I had this set as a kid and it was the greatest thing ever. Then we got a pirate ship and the pirates would try to sack the castle.

I mean just look at how awesome some of this original stuff is:

When I was a tween I purchased every single set (minus a couple of the small figurines but all the main sets) in the ufo collection which was one of the last couple original space themes. They're in my basement somewhere now. Probably would be worth a lot if I had the boxes.

I had both those ufo ones, had the entire collection of main sets actually. That series wasn't that big, only 4-5 main sets, maybe $250 bucks at the time. I mowed a lot of lawns when I was 13 and ordered them all from the catalog. Ahh the old lego catalog! It was so cool.

My dad's parents would always spoil me with big LEGO sets whenever they visited us or we visited them
