Leoreth Appreciation Thread

thanks to be leoreth for redeeming Germany

He probably means those Germans started two world wars but here came Leoreth and redeemed Teutonic race with his elegant code.

If that is the case I guess I'm ... happy that his simplistic generalizing logic works both ways?

I'm trying :D

Leoreth, I think I wouldn't be the first to tell you that you are a very talented modder! But, sometimes you simply over-doing the stuff. Was it really that critical to remove India from 3000 BC start to 1500 BC start?

The picture above is just iconic. The earliest cradles of civilization were those 4. No matter what you had in mind -- Dawn of Civilization MUST start with those 4 civs.

We had a lot of progress with the mod lately, but I would like to single out Harappa and express appreciation for the hard work resulted in their inclusion. At the Dawn (3000 BC) one can finally see all 4 famous Civilizations, and to me it brings significant historical and gaming satisfaction. India got a lot of love this year :goodjob:

Yeah, I wanted to go back to four initial civilizations for a long time. When I rearranged India I realized I could make it happen. I wouldn't have broken my determination to wait with more civilizations otherwise. Also, I like to keep additions together in nice thematic packages.

Sorry to everyone who was hoping for a different civ to come first, unfortunately you will still have to wait for some time.

Still fight to win as Russia in Monarch.

I hope turkic civilisation will be added at some time. Samarquand deserves to become capital at last.

Long time prowler, first time poster. After years of gaming and especially after reading through all of the SVN discussion and changes, I just had to say thank you! This is literally the only game I play, much to the dismay of my wife and much needed sleep
Please keep up the hard work!

Thanks,
Mark G.

Thank you! I always love to see when people come out of lurking to say these things about my work.

(And apologies to your wife :))

Hey there. I thought it was about time this thread got revived, what with all the progress you have been making recently.

I know we haven't always seen eye to eye in the past, but I always respected you, even if we disagreed on the direction this mod should take. You are always helpful, and you still consistently work on a mod for a ten year old game, and you do all that while throwing a lot of your time at some capitalist in exchange for money. Meanwhile I haven't updated my own modmod once in the past months, despite having ridiculous amounts of free time to the point that I don't even remember which year we have.

You truly are a treasure to this community.

It's kind of frustrating though that most of it happens in a way that is inaccessible even to Git users ... I'm eager to make a playable version available asap.

Same :)

I'm doing my best. Maybe it's time for me to release some controversial changes to motivate you for mod making again ;)

Thanks for the nice words though.

Oh you. :p Actually I gave it another shot yesterday, and I at least merged your work of the past months. The problem is that pretty much anything I would like to change now (range strikes, production from unhappiness, more useful culture, penalty for stacking) would go beyond simple XML or Python edits and instead requires me to do actual programming, which means, gasp, actual thinking. D:

Would you look at that, our once small subforum now has a full 1,000 threads!

Congratulations, Leoreth! :goodjob:

Here's to another 1,000!

I can't really wrap my head around this. It shows how great the community for this mod is. Thanks for sticking around for all this time everyone. I always say that people playing the mod keeps me going, and that is doubly true for everyone who contributes to this forum. The mod would not be what it is without you.

On the topic of myself and appreciation, I found this today and was quite disappointed that nobody appreciated this pun :/
The religious expansion thread is still canon, but I've pushed back on actually implementing anything related to this for a couple of versions.

Did you notice the amazing image editing skills I put to use on your avatar in my modmod's thread?

Yeah that was funny.

True value of many things becomes evident in comparison... Watching 5 Euro Poland DLC announcement for Civ 6, a game which still suffers from the same AI issues we were complaining about all these years, makes me feel very thankful for all the free work Leo is doing here for the history fans like us. Such a strong contrast. :thanx:

Poland? I think you are a bit behind, the currently announced DLC is...

*drumroll*

Australia.

Keep in mind that Civ6 is still missing Mongols, Persia, Turks and Maya.

This contrast is proof of the superiority of voluntary communist labor over corporate dictated wage labor, even in such areas like game development that are commonly claimed to be handled more efficiently and effectively by the "free" market.

I for one salute our Hero of Socialist Labour, Chairman Leoreth!
