Reviving this ancient thread to just say that it is absolutely amazing to come back to this great mod (finally having time to play it again) and see both the game and the community being alive and well. The great thing about being gone for some time is that there is always a lot of great new ways the mod has evolved, and exciting new future plans as well. Leoreth and everyone else who contributes to this, you are all awesome beyond words.

If I want to play in strategic game... the best is a Civlization series.

The best game from the Civilization series is Civilization IV.

^^have to agree 100%. This week for the first time in my life I tried BTS's contemporary Empire: Total War and was bitterly disappointed. You cannot even have a global map in that game, just 3 regions! Its 2019 and one would think there has to be a historical simulator covering entire 5000 years of written history of the entire globe. But no, I am yet to find a game that gives the feel of DoC -- this irresistible blend of randomness and determinism. And tons of intelligent goals instead of just controlling 40 provinces at the end of the Grand Campaign!
