Let's Read the Bible Once

Indeed. Who cares about the text?

It's the rationalizations, pardon, the explanations of the inconsistencies that matter.

I apologize, it was JR that was objecting to CH's explanation, by bringing up an alledged inconsistancy in the text. It take explanation to even recognize the so called error. For the purpose of the topic, Isaac was the only son that was loved, who was the subject of the test.

We are all God's children, but only Jesus was loved?

Text would be helpful?

My recollection was only begotton. I never defended CH's position as I recall.

I would add though that we are all loved because Jesus was the only begotton. If Jesus had not been begotton, such love would be only "felt" on the few who made it through life "smoothly". There are some who have miserable lives who claim that God loves them, despite the circumstances they endure.

homotextuality is a sin

That brings up a good point. Someone very new to all this might not know what some stuff is because it has not been explained yet. It does get gradually explained the more you read though.

So far we've learned Angels are God's sons?(not begotten) and servants. Sometimes they speak in God's stead with His voice, and sometimes they perform tasks. So far we've learned that they look like men, but have powers to blind at the very least.

The Cherubim were not described at all, but set to guard Eden. It is possible that the burning sword set to guard the Tree of Life was held by an invisible angel, so they might be able to turn invisible too. :hmm:
Perhaps the Garden of Eden was destroyed during the flood too?

Sin is any act against the Will of God.
So if God says to do or not do something and you act against what He says to do, that's a sin.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sin

Apparently there are 613 of them in the Bible. Well, the Old Testament anyway.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/613_commandments

So far we've learned that eating animals while they're still alive is a sin (mentioned in Noah's Ark story, but I forgot to include it during reading :o).

Not going forth and multiplying would be a sin. (Sorry contraception and masturbation :()
But what happens when the world fills up? Can we stop expanding, declare mission accomplished, and those things are no longer sinful?

Robbing and murdering guests is a huge sin that will get you nuked from heaven.

Possibly artificially extending the human lifespan way beyond 120 years might be a sin, but it's hard to say.

Does God resting on the 7th day and declaring it holy mean it is sinful for us to work on Suday? Gah, I don't know!
Many businesses/stores split the difference and close early on Sunday :)

So you can see that correctly interpreting God's Will is a huge deal! :crazyeye:
It has led to numerous conflicts throughout history.
The Inquisition thought that purifying people's souls by burning them alive was doing them a huge favor, because any temporary discomfort was easily worth it by ensuring their immortal soul got into heaven.

There has been some argument over Thou Shalt Not Kill or was it Thou Shalt Not Murder?

One does not excuse any killing of humans. The other is killing humans without cause. Huge difference!

Even today arguments over sin affect various issues.

A couple of questions for the believers:

1. how do the angels blind? Is is a neurological blindness, where the retina is still intact and functioning but the signals aren't transmitted to the brain stem and visual cortex? Or is it more of a mechanical deficit where light simply doesn't even make it to the retinal cells?

2. How does that invisibility work? Are we talking some sort of EM interference where light rays from behind the angel are bent and then refracted in such a way as to appear to be travelling in straight lines? Or perhaps it's a dark matter gravitational lensing effect? Any theological tracts on this one?

3. What flood? Didn't we already discuss the fact that there is no evidence for a global flood as described in the bible?

I still do not believe angels are "the son's of God".

How does the sun blind? I believe that it was a temporary blindness.

Invisibility works great for angels, since alledgedly they are all around us every moment, and as far as I am aware, they are unseen.

Believers have given up on the global flood. I am not sure what else to say other than you can accept, and believe anything you want, with or without evidence.

I do like how there is speculation that their might of been a flood on Mars, in spite of no water on the planet and yet your planet has 70% surface water and it is impossible for us to have a flood.

Please show us your evidence for a flood on Mars. Mkay, thanx.

Please show us your evidence for a GLOBAL flood on earth. Using the numbers from this thread:
15 cubits (the level of water above the tallest mountains) is 6.86m/22.5 feet.

That's an extremely high bar, it essentially requires that either Mt Everest and all the other monster mountains were covered up an additional fraction of a percent, or that these mountains only sprung up 200 generations ago, or that your god is lying. (am I doing this right?)

------------------

I do like how there is speculation that their [sic] might of [sic] been evidence for one thing, in spite of no evidence for something else, and yet some people fail to distinguish between the two and will then claim the either both or none are impossible. :crazyeye:

Heh, it's kind of interesting/horrifying to think what the 40 days and nights of rain must have been like.

If you take the heaviest rainfall recorded in history, you can get 1.5 inches of rain in 1 minute.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_weather_records

If it rained that hard nonstop for 40 days in a row over the entire Earth, you would have 7200 feet of water. Florida would vanish into the ocean after 2.5 days.
Mt. Everest would still poke into the sky for miles. Something more was going on probably.

Sorry about the invisible angels. It was only speculation on my part. The flaming sword could just be by itself. :mischief:
Haven't seen any evidence that they can turn invisible yet so far in Genesis.

@Timtofly
Ya, the "Son's of God" early in Genesis might not be referring to angels. My apologies, that part confuses me. The lego bible thought it was angels. :crazyeye:

Rachel stole her father's images before they left. (Not sure what images are. Pictures?)
Little sculptures of Laban's household gods. In other words, Laban was an idol-worshipper. Rachel stole his "graven images" and when he demanded them back, she prevented him from searching her belongings by telling him "it was that time of the month" (I'm sure you get the meaning). Since women were considered unclean at those times, Laban never got his statues back. :D

It's obvious that at this point, Rachel hadn't fully committed to Jacob's religious views.

In addition, these idols were frequently made out of valuable materials such as gold or wood (rare in the desert) so they were also worth quite a lot of money.

Here is speculation about a possible flood on Mars.
http://earthsky.org/space/new-mosaic-from-mars-express-ancient-flood-plain-on-mars

We do not believe that we had to cover the current height of Mt Everest, because the old would was different from this one. http://creation.com/images/pdfs/cabook/chapter12.pdf Read this to give a better understanding of our view on the flood. this from a book Creation Answers Book. If we were to smooth the earth, that is to push down the mountains and push up the vast depths of the oceans, then we have plenty of water to cover the whole earth. There have been plenty of marine fossils found in mountains and areas that are now very far inland, indicating that they were once under water. Also look up Catastrophic Plate tectonics as this helps to explain the process how this all could happen.

Well, if you're a neo-platonist, it would probably bypass all that mechanical claptrap and just alter the forms.

According to the Koran, the waves were as tall as mountains. I guess according to your theory (which agrees with the teachings of the Prophet (pbuh)), the waves could easily be taller than mountains because the mountains were all wee and tiny. Your theory helps show how the Koran could be correct

Perhaps the Garden of Eden was destroyed during the flood too?
Perhaps Noah gathered every species of plant on the planet as well.
