LINESII- Into the Darkness

But the initial set up is kinda over. Cultures have already been established and cemented. The point is, unless a you're starting brand new nation somewhere far far away, things have well been cemented and the opinion of your people about a thing may have well stuck.

so what if the initial set-up is over? do cultures not change?
The player is the people, if you write a story about a certain person in a certain city you can demonstrate to the mod what the peoples opinions should be on different things, of course they wont all march lock and step but they should be a majority.
The players should be able to shape their own destiny, not forced down a down the path the mod wants.

*looks at his post count, looks at Alex* Put you have.... oh, oh...I get it....:stupid:

Edit: Emu, WHY DOTH THOUST POSTITH!!!!!!!1 Now it looks like i'm calling you stupid, and i refuse to take it down, hrmmph

the sacred son of Gandhi and Buddha

There is something disturbing about this.

Lurker's Comment: So, if you write a story about people not rebelling and the people loving you when your popularity is low, that should be a guarantee that the people love you and won't rebel? What's to stop you from writing that the people want to shower you with all their money and you should gain lots of free EP? :p Just because you write it, doesn't necessarily make it the case, unless it's a pure story NES, which there are exceedingly few of these days...

Anyway, getting off topic, and Reno is not in self-imposed exile in some cabin, so perhaps we should make a new thread ("The Importance of Stories in NESing" maybe?) or something.

you cant tell the the difference between what I outlined and those two examples, perhaps your just being a ****ing jackass.

The second example you gave is already being done but more covertly they write about how great their economies are or how its expanding, Alex wrote a story in some old nes about how too friends had two different plans to make money and they tried to outdo each other, it was either Itnes or one of Northies. I pretty sure I've already said i dont like such things elsewhere.

The first example you would write about the people who support you and how rebelling is pointless because they shall get crushed, it would be upto the mod whether you beat them.

You missed somthing out I also dont like Invention stories I hate those, who invents what should be up to the mod.

Lurker's Comment: Bit confrontational, are we? I don't have every opinion you've ever voiced memorized, so don't get all up-tight about it. So you shouldn't control technology (which a government can invest money in, hire scientists to invent, etc) but you should be able to mind control certain citizens and have that be reflective of the entire country? If you say so.

Oh come on, emu! It's perfectly reasonable for Shalamari to invent glass! After all, they have toyed around with crystals since their very birth, plus the Crystal Ridge is full of it. Glass is pretty easy to make as well.

Confrontational? course I am your purposely winding me up, I never said they cant research **** and all that, but writing a story about how they just invented somthing is bollocks.
Mind control? you made the damn country from the ground up, you cant control somthing so trivial like an opinion of a certain country?

If the mod says its fine whatever, but I dont have to like it.

hire scientists to invent

Only its usually like "You! Quickly make an accidental breakthrough in the field of theoretical physics so that we could build a nuclear bomb!" in most NESes, as far as I know. The government CAN influence research efforts, but it can influence the masses as well.

IMHO stories that have little to do with reality, or seem awfully improbable anyway, could be simply ignored, as could stories with unlikely scientific breakthroughs.

Symphony, you don't belong to this thread. Please stop (or go back to) lurking so we can get back on topic.

God. I thought the update had come with all this :nospam:

Iggy I doubt you'd need my orders so I'm not bothering with them. Just follow the stories ;].

Spam is always the precursor of the update. The order of an NES thread is thus:

1. Opening posts
2. Claiming nations
3. Early diplomacy
4. Pre-update spam
5. Update
6. Post-update diplomatic flurry
7. Brief lull
8. Pre-orders diplomatic flurry
9. See 4.

Eldrania, you means those silly peace people?

And seriously though, i think that the evils of Eldrania will be forgotten, because the New Eldranias, since they are the primary Civilization spreaders and history keepers, would be embarassed and wash that little stainf from history, like the Germans and teh Hitlerzorzs. Its not something the New Eldranians talk about, so t would probably fade away.
On the contrary. It is emphasized greatly by the New Eldists in their teachings, as an example of the evils of war, the neccessity of pacifism, and the possibliity of redemption.

I'm guessing no update with in the hour:(

A precursor to the update...;)

****

The palace of the Lengelzai was dark, and silent. Foreboding in the still night air of the steppe, the modest palace becoming almost sinster, the shadows dancing against the guards torches. The bronze sword still in the ground outside the palace, a symbol of Lengel culture, and a destination of worshipers of the former and current Lengelzai.

Inside the palace, past the silent dark halls, a single candle burnt within the throne room upon a desk against the wall. A dark figure was hunched over it, merely watching it, his shadow flickering against the wall. The Spymaster was awake, waiting for what, only he knew.

The door opened, and then closed.

A man walked towards the Lengelzai, his steps silent and sure. He walked until his own shadow flickered against the wall, and then he stopped. There was total silence for a moment. Nothing even seemed to breathe. The Lengelzai did not turn around, and said nothing.

The man merely placed a small token in front of the Lengelzai. It was a symbol. A royal insigna burned into the wax. The light flickered, and the symbol became shrouded in darkness. The Lengelzai already knew what it was. He had know years before it had actually happened. He had felt it, deep in his bones, even before he ascended to Lengelzai.

"The small fire flickers and burns, giving light in the darkness," the Lengelzai said, as if speaking only to himself. The man stayed silent.

"It is such a small thing. It gives so mcuh light, yet is so easily extinguished. Insignificant against greater light, greater fire," he said, breathing out lightly, making the flame flicker. The man reached for the flame, reaching to extingish it, but the Lengelzai stopped him.

"Not yet, not yet my friend. Wait. I have not made my decision yet. And neither have they, I think. The light does not need to be extinguished just yet."

"But the opportunity presents itself, either way," the man spokle finally, his voice gravelly, as he motioned to the still unseen insigna. The Lengelzai nodded, taking the symbol in his hand, examining it.

"Yet the question remains. Should I?"

There was no answer. Only silence. Then, the flame was gone, extinguished by the symbol in the Lengelzai's hand.

"Then the world will burn."

OOC: And how ominous... of course, saying the world is perhaps too much but it does give it more flair. :D
