LK149 - WM, Indonesia

Preturn: Looks reasonable
IBT: Iron deal runs out so I trade Monotheism for 20 more turns.
190 AD: Adjust Capitol - will try to do each turn.
IBT: China demands and gets 41 gold.
210 AD: Zz
IBT: Sioux demand and get 45 gold.
230 AD:
IBT: Sioux builds embassy in our Capitol
250 AD: There are 3 tech out there but we can't afford them. I have been checking for a good deal and affordability, but nothing is coming up. The techs need to be shared more.
IBT: Sun Tzu is on the other continent (Sioux).
260-290 AD: Some civs have Invention now but we can't affford anything.
IBT: Knights Templar is also Sioux.
300 AD:
Notes:
We finally have enough to make a deal, but I thought I would discuss first. If we had the resources we could get a 3-fer as China is missing Theology, and Babylon has just Invention (so no Chivalry or Theology). Also Mongols are able to trade communication now and are missing 5.
However, we can't afford Theology even with everything we currently have (I did not test if we could sell older tech for gpt to get more)
We could likely get a 2-fer now, Chivalry for 71 gpt, and all our 1200+ cash, and 5 communications - which in turn would likely afford us Invention though we might have to throw in more gpt for it.
So do we wait for another attempt at the 3-fer or try to grab the 2-fer now if it works? Will the 2-fer work - can Chivalry + 35 gpt get us Invention?

No picture as there was little different.

I did not upgrade units to save gold for deals. We could also choose to upgrade to MDI. We did build our first MDI.

After thinking about it, I would go for the 2-fer.

We don't need theology right away, but invention and Chivalry start building knights and starts us toward Cavalry and the Muskets.

Also we need quite a bit more for the 3-fer. Unless deals expire soon that get us back gpt (forgot to check this) we will not have enough in the near future.

We can do the threefer right now, barring bad luck; we just have to scrape up every possible penny. First we sell Construction to the Brazilians for 72 gold and communications to the Sioux for 71 gold, bringing us to 1379 gold. Then we MM our way up to 113 gpt (from 106); Bogor's scientist can become a taxman for this purpose, and Bandung can work an extra coastal tile sacrificing only a shield that's corrupt anyway, though after that we will have to give up some shields. The Mongols will take 113 gpt, 1367 gold, and the five contacts for Theology. Then Theology to China for Chivalry and 10 gold, and Theology and Chivalry to Babylon for Invention, should work.

It's definitely time to start merging the workers from Jakarta into other cities--all ten of those we'll receive in the next round, I'd say. We might distribute them five to Surabaya, three to Djokjakarta, and two to Tangerang.

Depok will very soon hit size seven, since it has a river, so it doesn't need the walls it's building. We can return to bombardment units (now trebuchets) there.

We can pick up a worker from the Songhai for Monotheism.

OH NO!

... how many is a Brazilian?

:mischief:

and communications to the Sioux for 71 gold, bringing us to 1379 gold.

I hope they don't Sioux us; that would take all our gpt!

Then we MM our way up to 113 gpt (from 106); Bogor's scientist

says: "Bogor me, this is a lot of work!"

can become a taxman for this purpose, and Bandung

Always a reasonable idea.

...Sorry guys, I was feeling punny today!

I do the threefer as NP outlined :D
I also change the build at Depok and buy the Worker from the Songhai.

IT - Aztecs demand contact with the Zulu. We give in.
Bekasi - Court > Mkt
Turn 1 - Ugh, Jakarta didn't pick up as many shields on the IBT as I expected. No Worker this turn -- bummer :(
Tangerang - Duct > MDI
Turn 2 - Aztecs and Sioux both have Education and Gunpowder.
Sell Chivalry to Persia for 40 gold and a Worker.
Unit support is starting to be a problem.
Surabaya - MDIs
Turn 3 - Most of the worker jobs near Jakarta complete; I send the remaining Workers to clear jungle near Medan.
Turn 4 - Now Mongols have Education and GP, too.
Here's something I never see - America tries to catapult our Bangka.
Babylon boots us.
Turn 5 - I add a Worker to Bekasi because it grew to size 6 and would take another 19 turns to grow to size 7 -- this gets us more unit support right now.
Australia suddenly declares war on us! They land two units next to foo and then attack the city with their Galley
Turn 6 - I load a couple of units on a Galley to reinforce Makassar. I'm a bit puzzled by the Galley attack on the Spear though...

Pausing for comment.

I'm not sure what are looking for comments on?

Australia attacking is unexpected, but not how much we will gain with getting new civs in the fight.

We could probably get away with attacking the single Australian horseman with spearmen out of Makassar, but that would create some chance of losing the city where presently there's no chance, so we really can't do it just to save the two workers (and the behavior of an enemy unit covering a settler is hard to predict anyway). The maceman and the swordsman on the boat can deal with that situation next turn, then proceed on to Malang.

We need to reinforce Malang, and the worst thing that could happen there would be for us to lose the reinforcements at sea. So Surabaya should switch its build to a galley, and that veteran galley, remaining empty, can cover the regular galley carrying units to Malang.

It's probably pointless to continue with fifty-turn research now, so the scientist in Bogor can work a coastal tile and let the town grow.

IT - Malang riots
Turn 7 - Sword kills Horse, netting two slaves :D
Sioux and the Mongols are both building Copernicus.
Turn 8 -
America attacks Bogor and loses their Swordsman.
Turn 9 - MDI kills Australian Archer on the hillside next to Malang
Buy another Worker from Songhai for Chivalry
China boots us..
Bah, Djokjakarta riots. I joined a couple of workers last turn and didn't double-check happiness.
Turn 10 -
Our forces advance from Malang. I leave a couple of ships unmoved for the next player.

Again, sorry about the riots. :(

That's all right--the main thing is that we did some merges. :goodjob:

But five of our cities, still including Djokjakarka, are about to riot now, so that'll need adjustment before we hit Enter. It looks as though we just lost one dose of war happiness.

Palembang now needs to be merged up as far as happiness allows.

We probably couldn't hold Port Augusta (or if we're optimistic, Sydney) for long without its flipping, so we might want to produce the settler for a replacement city in Jakarta.

I have not seen this bug, but I have heard of ships attacking cities, if you meant that literally.

400 AD (0)
I get our cities happy with 10% luxuries and a taxman. We now make a horrid $2/T.
(IT) The American warrior by Bogor commits suicide.
I really hate to give away an expensive tech, but Egypt gets theology.
The Aztecs complete Leo's Workshop.

410 AD (1)
We kill an archer by Port Augusta.
We are now on the verge of bankruptcy with $42 losing $29/T.
We have 9 more turns before we stop our GPT payments to Mongolia. :(
France comes to the rescue giving us $20 and $59/T for theology.
We send Theology to India and have iron back
We send Brazil monarchy for $60 and $1/T.
We send Zulu theology for wines and $10. We can't even get a lousy $1/T from them.
 The Sioux can trade maps.
We get $50 from them for maps.
(IT) The runaway Sioux complete Sistine Chappell.

410 AD (2)
We kill 2 spears in Port Augusta. An archer is still visible.
We are back barely in the black after giving Persia $17/T for silks.
(IT) Mongolia completes Copernicus.

430 AD (3)
We barely kill a spear that landed by Medan.
We kill a fresh spear in Port Augusta.

440 AD (4)
We kill a fresh spear in Port Augusta. If we could get a one-turn break we could raze the city. It may need to wait for the galley with a fresh sword to arrive, or the MDI to heal.
Now the Aztecs can trade maps. Two civs from the new world being the leaders is really odd.
(IT) America and Australia BOTH drop units by Depok.

450 AD (5)
The Australian spear by Depok is toast.
This time is no fresh spear. Port Augusta is toasted.
(IT) America lands two more units by Depok.

460 AD (6)
(IT) The American warrior commits suicide.

470 AD (7)
We wipe out a conscript warrior by Jakarta from Australia, and promote a sword to vet.
We wipe two American spears by Depok, but we lost a regular sword.
Bandar Lampung is formed on former Port Augusta.
(IT) This is why I hate war happiness games. America lands 4 units by Bogor.

480 AD (8)
We give America all of our gold ($190) and $4/turn to end this war.
(IT) The stupid wars have been going on too long. Even the lame AI is sending enough to be a pain. 4 Australia units land by Jakarta.

490 AD (9)
We get $20 and $3/turn from Brazil for republic. That scrap of cash lets me upgrade a sword in the capitol.
(IT) We lost a spear in Jakarta.
Argentina steals our lousy $14.

500 AD (10)
The 3 remaining Australian units are dead at no cost.
I sign peace with Australia with them giving us $9. I then send them Theology for ivory.

Summary:
We need to get more troops into Bogor, in case America attacks again.

I'm very frustrated with gunpowder. I have no question that gives us a 3-way trade getting education and printing press. However, all out GPT is still doubtful to trade.

Just to add to the fun, even when we get Gunpowder there's almost zero chance that we'll have saltpetre, with this geography. I think we control one tile that might theoretically have it.

I've got it.

There is one bad thing about posting just before going to bed. I forgot to post a good summary.

1) I signed a RoP with India for $4 during the turn set. We have one unit scouting out India. I found a second nearby iron. I already saw India as our first target to raze that annoying city next to our potential iron. We need to start securing our own resources. If we can swing north to raze and replace the second iron we could have trade bait. If we get really lucky, we might scout out a happy resource.
Plus, I want the chance to start ridding our islands of those annoying India towns. I think some of the islands ones are to close to us, and simply want to raze them.
The bigger issue is we are still too small to win this one. We need to start getting established in Asia.
I also want to get our Asia cities linking without having to go through Indian land.

2) We need more workers on the island that use to have Port Augusta. When the galley get there, please rescue the elite sword. We need to start working to getting armies. They really break the game in our favor.

3) I built a couple more galleys, but my gut says we can use even more. Just the shuffle to Bogor will tie one up for several turns. I know a couple of our smaller islands need more workers, and lack of galleys is making that tougher.

4) Do we want to build the FP on Borneo? This is anticipating our moving of the palace into India.
