I suspect that the Mongols are a houseboat civ, but I wasn't 100% sure. Just in case, I'll attach the previous turn's save.

The Colossus gives no happiness at all - but please don´t forget that you have stolen the tech Industrialization and this makes the GW Wavel obsolete, a wonder that provides every city with + 1 happiness.

Please keep science at 4 turns. Lowering it and hoping for a good steal is a roll of the dice. I prefer not to gamble.

Mongolia still has one city somewhere per Map Stat. They are NOT a houseboat civ.

I haven’t loaded the game, so they may already be under construction. Please make sure both small wonders from democracy are under construction.

It is nice to see we are only 4 turns from laying railroads.

ROSTER:
Multiple civs are probably south of Seoul. Please don’t explore much that direction.
I planned out 4 cities in the area. For now I don’t want to explore further until those 4 cities are built.

Spy targets = Germany (theocracy), Spain (theocracy), Aztec (democracy), Greece (theocracy), and Arabia (democracy). They are the 5 tech leaders. Remember, we can’t steal from republics. Spies in the other civs are a waste.

We just need to get ahead enough to build any wonder for our GA.

Based on our having 2 settlers, I made the following dot map moving the placement of red dot southeast by 1 tile. Part of the reason I placed white dot where I did is that it will have almost 0 corruption. Also, red dot is based so it integrates with the blue border (persia?) that is visible.

The above is just one thought. Red dot where Lee originally had it works well. White dot could then be used to push the border further south or east.

I didn't set either of the Democracy small wonders yet.

For placement -- Wonsan or SK Hynix are high-shield and low corruption. Capitol could be built in about 10 turns.

A bit further afield, Olsztyn would be a powerhouse with the drop in corruption. Capitol will take closer to 15 turns there.

Constitution is cheaper -- 7 turns in Wonsan, a bit more elsewhere. Or just rush it near the front with the next Leader (and switch the city building it to Factory).

Re: dotmap, I'm on board with either plan. We'll need somewhere to put the second city either way. An alternative might be SE-ish of Yellow Dot. I just wouldn't put a new city on the other side of the gems -- that would tempt contact with Turkey.

Speaking of contact, we've been lucky to avoid Turkey so far, but still -- we should probably beef up our forces in the Yellow Dot area. Arabia has been sending larger and larger stacks, and once Red Dot is settled, we can start considering a push into Persia (maybe during LK's turnset? Depends on how hot the area stays).

Finally -- I probed into Greek territory a bit, but ship bombardments make a push there seem unlikely. We'll have better luck reconnecting the road with the Scandinavian colonies E of Nykoping. In the meantime, Spain will keep our Cavs busy.

If it was not for the possibility it might flip, Stockholm would be another good spot for the Capitol. Flip risk was why I did not put the Military Academy there.
I saw that Turkey has another horse colony and we never had contact while they built the road and colony. They must have ninja workers.
Also, i noticed a Maghreb(?) colony in our lands in the far north, west of Napata.

A Railnet leading back to Seoul, will help with the defense of Blue, Yellow, and Red dot. Actually, we should learn Explosives in 4 turns after Rails for double speed Workers and Steamrollers. We could use Factories or Gas Holders as prebuilds in the cities not producing troops. Cities with 20-24 shields (after corruption) not using engineers per turn could start their prebuilds right now adding more of the higher shield producers each turn. Maybe exempt the cities that can build Cavalry in 2 turns. This way we can quickly build a decent number of Steamrollers without needing to cash rush.

Steel requires about 20% more beakers to learn than another tech in this age. Lee talked about stopping research at Explosives, this might be a better spot to go for steals. If we drop research to Zero we should have enough gold to try 3-4 steals in the next 8 turns.
Assuming 3 steal attempts we have a 93.6% chance to get Steel, a 64.8 % chance to get Steel and Imperialism, and a 21.6% chance to get Steel, Imperialism and a Tech from the Industrial Ages.
If we can make 4 attempts, the chances are 97.44% chance to get Steel, a 82.08 % chance to get Steel and Imperialism, a 47.52% chance to get Steel, Imperialism and a Tech from the Industrial Ages, and a 12.96% chance to get Steel, Imperialism and 2 Techs from the Industrial Ages.
Of course if our first 2 steals are successful, we might have the option of being able to research either Marine Engineering or Transcontinental Railroad, giving us a shot at a Wonder.

Research either Marine Engineering or Transcontinental Railroad, giving us a shot at a Wonder.
We still want our GA. Any wonder is good.

My intent on explosives was delaying it in favor of democracy. We already have democracy complete. Let us stay full tilt on techs.

I can't believe Persia is so close. I am so glad I concentrated north. This is why we are in good shape right now. It followed LK163 path of taking out a civ before a lot of contacts.

Re: railnet, we have a lot of workers near Seoul, so getting the "Dot" cities connected should be a breeze. Same for getting a rail from Stockholm to Moscow-ish. I think it'll take longer to connect that leg to Seoul, based on worker placement. BUT -- once that's done, it'll help a lot with Spain. I'm anticipating high losses vs. their WW1 infantry.

Re: Maghreb colony, I figured we could capture the city once it grows or border-pops. In the meantime, I put a couple of Cavs at our Iron colony to keep 'em in line.

Re: Persia, if we'd followed the "normal" expansion pattern of building new cities in all directions, I dare say we'd have eliminated Persia by now -- but still be skirmishing with Poland (and probably fighting Turkey).

Re: research, minimum is 30% (or we have to raise the lux slider), limiting the cash-boosting effect to ~1500 gpt (which translates to 1 steal every 3-4 turns). And after the failed steal during my set, I'm inclined to agree with LK about staying full tilt on techs.

The southern railnet should go to Visby (Military Academy = barracks) then north to Moscow, sorta following Greebley's straight line road.

Research and Luxury can both be set to 0% and have the full 100% as revenue. When the next turn starts we get 100% revenue, but the game then resets research to 30%. So every turn you have to decrease it back to 0% to get 100% revenue.

New idea/strategy: After we learn Railroads, we might have accumulated enough gold to attempt a steal. We should not steal Explosives, it is the least expensive of the remaining techs in this age. We should continue to accumulate gold and attempt to steel Steel. If we are close to having enough gold to attempt a second steal we should go 0% research for 1 turn and attempt a steal before returning to the normal 4 turn full tilt research.

We should not steal Explosives, it is the least expensive of the remaining techs in this age. We should continue to accumulate gold and attempt to steel Steel.
We are at the no flexibility point of the tech tree. Explosives, Steel and Imperialism must be researched in that exact order. There is no reason to try and play games for stealing right now. Go full tilt on research.

I am for full tilt research.
I am against trying to steal Explosives after we learn Railroads. I do not think trying to steal Explosives is as cost effective as waiting and trying to steal Steel.
The base cost for Explosives is 666 beakers less than the base cost for railroads. If we study Explosives there is a good chance we can lower the research slider from 60% to 50%.
The base cost for Steel is 1344 higher than railroads. 70% research may not produce enough beakers to let us learn Steel in 4 turns.

So what I suggest is that we do not attempt to steal Explosives, but study it for 4 turns and accumulate more gold. We will definatly have enough gold to attempt to steal Steel and possibly enough gold left to attempt a second steal.

Looking ahead, if we are going to go for Marine Engineering and building the Blue Riband, we should build it in Axum. Therefore, we should immediately build a Drydock there. The Drydock will give it more net shields per turn than a factory.
