LK164 - CCM, AWM, Korea

I'm still working on getting CCM (+CA II) running. These things don't "just work" in Windows 10 :(
I run CCM on Win 10. It definitely works.

Don't know a thing about CA II. Civ replay with MapStat works fine on Win 10.

The problem is CAII.

This * 1000. I see two downloads for CA II, one from 2006, one from 2016. The original starts up as though everything is fine, but it crashes with a bunch of Japanese(!)-looking characters in an alert message.

The later one just wouldn't run, but then I tried it on a whim today and got it to Run As Admin. It won't load save files from the Virtual Store, though.

I'm going to try editing the security info for the game installation.

You may also want to play around with compatibility setting. It may work using something older than Win10.

I'm partway through my set. There's Iron in the tundra -- any arguments against making a Colony?
Wow, taking out Nubia really paid!

Can this site eventually get a city? If not, then drop a colony.

Please make sure to use up a slave worker if possible.

Sounds like you finally got CA2 to work. Congrats.

There are plenty of slave workers in former Nubia, I got 5 or 6 slaves when I captured Napata.
I vote we build a colony, even if we can build a town to get it. It will be about 10 more turns till we get another settler probably 10 or more turns after that to walk up to a spot to settle. If we cannot settle right next to it, it is at least 5 turns to build a flag and 10 turns to get enough culture for a second ring. With a colony, Seoul should be able to build a forge and start cranking out iron armed troops before we even settle a town near the iron.

Well...yeah, we can build a town really close (it will get horses, too!). Now I'm inclined to just road it -- we're due to get another Settler in a few turns.

Nubia isn't dead yet, but I accidentally razed their old capital (Meroe) -- I expected them to have more than two defenders. Axum should border pop within a few turns.

Edit: I'm done!

@Civinator - I've been meaning to replace my legendary Civ laptop for a while now. I finally took the plunge this spring with a truly delightful case from Fractal Design and a the rest of the parts from the local Microcenter. Well, sort of. The best they had in stock for graphics was an old GT 1030 (still better than my dino-laptop!).

I did finally manage to get a "real" graphics card by waiting in line yesterday morning. They had 60 cards in stock, I was #73, and somehow they still had 3060 and 3090 cards (I guess 3070s were the hot commodity).

Now I have a "real" gaming computer for the 20s :D

Pre-turn:
We're at war with Maghreb and Nubia. We don't know anyone else.
I have Wonsan work a BG instead of forest. We lose 1 gold but grow in 2 instead of in 4.
I start some roads next to Samsung.

IBT: Writing > CoL

375 BC:
We narrowly lose rArcher to Enslaver next to Wonsan, and a new slave is there now. :wallbash:
We build Namp'o in place.
CA says Maghreb have CoL, sigh.

IBT:

Archer dies to Enslaver.
The Nubian slave who used to be our Archer is now GREEN!

350 BC:

We declare on the Aztecs.
Spear recaptures the slave
Archer kills Nubian Archer near Axum
Archer kills Nubian Archer NW of Samsung, revealing Meroe
eEnslaver dies to Maghreb? Enslaver, generating a Leader for them :(
vEnslaver kills the above Enslaver and the Leader.

Sci slider to 80%, CoL due in 6.

325 BC:

Archer kills Spear in Meroe

IBT: Bright green comes out of the fog near SK Hynix.
Gray Scout comes out of the fog
Enslaver dies in one volley to Archer.

300 BC:

Archer kills Spear in Meroe ... and razes it? I was expecting more resistance!

Sorry, Greebley :(

We declare on Israel, who is bright green in this game, and Germany (gray)

IBT:

Enemy Enslaver MURDERS Archer near Wonsan. Poor guy never stood a chance :'(

Two Maghreb Archers come out of the fog near SK Hynix. Gulp...

275 BC:

Spear runs into Enslaver...and wins!

Enslaver finds Iron in the tundra!

IBT: Israeli Archer wins a battle with an Enslaver
Two MORE Maghreb Archers come out of the fog

250 BC:

Defense of SK Hynix...Enslaver kills first Archer. Whew!
Another Enslaver kills the stray German Scout.

IBT:

Enslaver tries to kill Spear W-ish of Seoul
Enslaver tries to kill Archer near Wonsan
Both our guys live...not sure about the slavemasters.

No action at SK Hynix.

225 BC:

Slider to 20%, CoL due in 1.
Two groups of Workers converge; now we get 1-turn roads from the Wonsan-Namp'o stack.

IBT:

We lose an Archer to Enslaver near Wonsan. Deadly place.

SK Hynix:
Archer > Enslaver
Archer > Enslaver
UGH, I FORGOT ABOUT SNEAK ATTACK

CoL > Mysticism

200 BC:

SK Hynix: Our Archer kills enemy Archer

Enslaver enslaves enemy Enslaver at Wonsan.
Enslaver kills Maghreb Archer NW of SK Hynix

IBT:

No action...what? I thought SK Hynix was going to fall!

175 BC:

Just moving Workers...not enough troops in the right place to do anything...

IBT:

No attacks...

150 BC:

More shuffling troops...there are lots of red units near SK Hynix but little action...for now...

IBT:

Warrior dies on spearpoint at SK Hynix
Archer dies to our Spear between SK Hynix and Samsung.
Italy completes Hammurabi's Code

125 BC:

Archer dies to Nubian Mercenary
Enslaver kills him
Archer kills Maghreb Archer at SK Hynix, promotes

IBT:

Nubia wants to talk. Take a hike, buddy!

100 BC:

Korean Archer kills Maghreb Archer

IBT:

Zzz...

75 BC:

We have a road all the way to the iron. Pause for discussion re: colonizing it.

IBT:

Maghreb Archer MURDERS our Spear
Mysticism > City-State

50 BC:

Enslaver captures Maghreb Archer.
Slider to 60% for positive gpt. City-State due in 7.

IBT:

Enslaver kills Spear in Wonsan, then runs south.
Napata completes SupplyCenter (Furs)
Wonsan riots -- the dead spear was giving us a content face there.

25 BC (T100 of the game):

Archer kills Enslaver near Wonsan.

3 Archers and a Spear move next to Axum. 3 more Archers are a turn behind them.

We're about ready to start exploring again. We can settle the Iron city in about 10 turns, based on distance and roads. Jersey Joe makes a good point about getting Iron sooner with a Colony -- next turn instead of T125 or so. If you use a slave from the Worker stack N-NW-ish of SK Hynix, you'll probably want to replace him with one of the 2 slaves E of SK Hynix.

I vote a strong NO on more exploring. With adding  3  more civs to the enemy list, we can’t afford risk finding more. This game got very ugly fast.
The good news is Nubia should die next turn baring another settler out there. That will shorten the high fighting front, and we need that.

I vote we build a colony, even if we can build a town to get it.
With a colony, Seoul should be able to build a forge and start cranking out iron armed troops before we even settle a town near the iron.
That is a very good point. I vote colony ASAP. Troop production badly needs to increase.

We should explore a little, from the southwest to southeast, below Seoul. We should expose at least a ring or 8-9 tiles with Seoul in the center to find out if there is a good town site close to Seoul in the southern fog..

Right now I think we should build out next town on the white circle. This will quickly help our cash flow and might allow us to learn Monarchy a turn or 2 quicker.

It looks like possible plains to the south. I see 1 clearly, and 2 in the fog. I suspect it isn't to good that way.

At most I want to expose 3 or 4 tiles in any direction. 3 new civs with troops coming our way is nasty. The last thing I want to do is explore and find a 4th civ.

Ok, I got it.
I do think we want to grab more towns while we only have a few enemies. Given our map location, then west is better than East. Have units been coming from that direction? I think I will go south (and west) of SK Hynix rather than South of Seoul. I would rather find enemies to our west than the ones to the east.

Right now we have 3 NEW enemies worth of rush to deal with. I want to get that out of the road before we go much further.

We could still easily lose this one on war overload.

For how long it took another Civ to find us, I suspect there is not another real close one

Maghreb sent a lot of units at SK Hynix from the south. One was wandering around near the tundra -- probably came by to the west of the city.

I suggested exploring to find Maghreb's cities, but we could easily focus on developing our cities and defending against the next wave of Maghreb units for the next 20 turns. Maybe some Aztec units, too. I don't think we'll see more German or Israeli units in that time.

I little bit of west explore is okay. Maghreb should be the first to find.
I'm worried about the Aztec, Germany and Israel waves.

Did we build the small wonder yet for free chariots?

I agree that we don't want to do a lot of exploring, just enough to find Maghreb. I'm eager to keep taking cities :hammer:
Not worth it if we find a couple more civs. Very tricky trade off.

We also need to build some infrastructure. We need 2 Temples (Seoul and Wonsan?) to enable the building of Buddhist Communities and 3 of those to open up building other Buddhist related buildings.
Every town should have a Forge and an Academy.

With all that building, we have to also find a way to build up our army.

Only on turn 106 but want to stop for a discussion of what tech.
Great Library is huge for AW games - like regular civ it gives 2 tech if 2 civs own and in ccm gives a settler every 10.
Problem is I am not sure how likely we are to get it. No civ we know has started it. We can prebuild with an academy to 80 shields, but then have 320 more. Capitol can be at 17 shields, more if we send workers to build mines on trees. This might be good enough to nab it? Only 1 wonder (temple artimis) has 2 civs building - if that completes before AI gets Lit, I think our position would be strong amongst the civs we know.
--------
The other options I thought of were:
Monarchy, but it is a long 22 turns away.
Math for siege workshop in 8 seems better to go for before Monarchy. If we don't go lit, should we go for this?
