LK164 - CCM, AWM, Korea

I miscalculated. Currently P'yongang is rioting and not adding to either our research or treasury.
However, next turn, when P'yongang is no longer roiting it will add enough gold that you should be able to complete Riding in 6 turns, maybe even 5.

In any event we need more Academies.

No nation is building World Religion Buddhism. If we learn Philosophy next we should have a chance to build it. Currently Wonsan can get to 30 shields per turn. The Wonder costs 300 shields.
If a mountain is mined for Wonsan to work (might also have to irrigate a bonus grass title) Wonsan should be able to get to 34 Shields per turn and build the Wonder in 9 turns. No good prebuild exits.

Good Progress King-Elephantium

I like the leader choice with gold mine. With how tight cash is more supply shipments are appreciated.
Theveste offers the 10 shield supply center (incense). Greebley, please switch to this T1. Anything for more cash is badly needed.

What did the second leader rush? I reread the report, and I can’t figure it out.

Leaders this early are very valuable. Can that elite chariot get off the iron colony? It won’t last my turn.

Please stop developing tiles in front of Seoul. The hot zones where troops will come in shouldn’t be worked on.

It wasn’t mentioned in the report, but next to Leptis Magna are yellow borders. That means Israel is also in range.

ROSTER:
Multiple civs are probably south of Seoul. Please don’t explore that direction.
Don’t develop tiles along the front lines.

LKendter (on deck)
Jersey Joe
Elephantium
Greebley (up)

If we want to sacrifice 9 troops to go for World Religion Buddhism please next turn start moving workers toward Wonsan. I want those extra shields ready before we start building that wonder.
I hate tying up our main veteran troop city in general. If we do, I want the other target done ASAP. All the building in the world are worthless if we don’t have enough troops.

A comment on last turn: One reason we were building mostly forges is because we couldn't afford more troops without lowering science down to 40. We had little money and -1 gpt. I am glad you were able to handle the rushes with what we had - it is a delicate balance because too slow science is also a killer. It would have been different if we had the great library as a possibility - low science is possible and we can build more troops.

For this turn I got it.

What did the second leader rush? I reread the report, and I can’t figure it out.

My bad, I didn't record it. I rushed an Academy in SK Hynix (most expensive building available right now).

I built roads in front of Seoul to help with defensive efforts. You're right, though -- I definitely went overboard, and I shouldn't have irrigated south of the river :hammer2:

I put the chariot on the colony, thinking about Maghreb landings. Maybe another :hammer2: moment...the AI doesn't usually target colonies. Actually -- has anyone ever seen the AI target a colony?

Agreed @ diverting Workers to Wonsan. Fortunately, we have a lot of one-turn roading crews :D

Preturn: Swith theveste to Incense as suggested.

IBT: Archer attacks Spear/Sword and kills our Spear without taking damage.

1000 AD:
For Philosophy science can only go to 30%. I think we need trade and Marketplaces, unfortunately, more than a gamble on a Wonder. Will get Sail and Trade first before Philosophy.

Sword attacks Archer above we again lose without damaging the Archer which is now Elite and undamaged. This leaves us kind of weak near SK Hynix, so I move a garrisoned archer to help.

Our attacks on Leptis Magna are better but still loses a unit. We capture the City.
Move workers to connect Leptis Magna to our civ by roads.

1025 AD: Kill Russian Spear near Leptis. Do not yet advance.
We have a Settler which I will fill the hole between SK Hynix and Hyansan.

Kill two Persian Archers with Enslavers but no workers. Kill a Catapult. These are around Seoul.

IBT: Chariot Attacks and kills Spear, but loses to Horseman. I forgot those have Blitz attack.

1050 AD: start moving toward next town with Green border.

1075 AD: Kill some troops near Leptis Magna.

1100 AD: More troops near Leptis, can now see Casablanca. Get Leader

1125 AD: Troops near Seoul are finally in range. Kill them with one loss.
Move next to Casablanca. Leader rushed Academy in Leptis Magma for the culture.

1150 AD: Capture Casablanca losing 1 unit. Kill other units nearby with another loss.

1175 AD: Clear units near Casablanca, we lose 1 unit despite attacking Def 1 units.

IBT: Lose a Spear and Chariot on defense. Israel is showing up with a bunch of troops.

1200 AD: More bad RNG near Leptis Magna and Casablanca. I think we lose 2 units.

1225 AD (Turn 150): Israel is starting to include Spear in their stacks which will make things tougher. Only a few attacks are possible.

Notes:
Persian troops are mostly heading West. I pick some off but others survive. They have not shown up elsewhere.
LK164_AD1225a.png

Israel definitely reacted to the attack on their city and has shown up with a number of units. We need to continue to send units toward Leptis Magna and Casablanca. Near Leptis Magna we can attack down off the mountain and Israel cannot attack us (no road on their side). This can be useful.

Nice progress  I'm glad to see our expansion resume under Good King Greebley!

Looks like Wonsan needs an Aqueduct to grow further.
Hyangsan can work an irrigated grassland tile instead of forest and still complete its Forge in 1 turn.
Shadow of Eternity doesn't have Walls yet.

We desperately need more units in the west. Seoul is well-defended for the moment; new units can head towards Leptis. We can peel out one of the units in P'yongyang, too. It only needs 3 Spears as MP.

A thought on research: The Republic lets us build Asian Cataphract @ 40 shields. Go for that next?

No one is building World Religion: Buddhism according to F7! We might still have a chance at it, even this late...

Got it, will start playing tomorrow.

I don't think we can build Aqueducts yet.

And yes the west is troublesome. We lost some better units toward the end of my turn due to bad RNG - the attack 3 or 4 units you would think should be able to take out def 1 units. I don't think we will lose the cities, but we may have Spear trampling around that we can't easily kill.

Very late set teaser:

1225 AD (0)
I switch Wonsan to swordsman.
I switch Shadow of Eternity to walls. Walls should always be the first build in a city.
(IT) Israel lost a chariot. (1-0)
I hear holy men attacking other AI units by Casablanca.
Persia may be changing targets as units avoid Seoul. I need to tempt them back that way.
The next science project is philosophy.
Seoul will spend a turn to get supply center ivory built.
Leptis gets a badly needed border expansion.
Germany completes Hagia Sophia.

1250 AD (1)
I kill Israel: 1 spear and 1 archer. I lost a horse. (3-1)
I gain a worker.
I kill Persia: 1 ballista and 1 archer. (5-1)
The reinforcement parade can’t arrive fast enough at Leptis.
(IT) Persia killed a spear. (5-2)
Israel lost an archer. (6-2)
A Persian chariot got hit by an invisible unit.
Israel completes Jewish world religion.

1275 AD (2)
I have to reload, as I somehow hit end of turn before doing anything. I think I hit it trying to scroll the map.
Leptis is out of resistance, so I rush some walls. With the cash reserves we can’t do this very often.

I kill Israel: 3 spears. I lost 1 horse. (9-3)
I kill Persia: 2 chariots, 2 archers and 1 spear. I lost 1 sword. (14-4)
Seoul is clear except for a German unit. Most of our forces continue to move toward Leptis.
(IT) I lost a spear by Seoul to something invisible. (14-5)

1300 AD (3)
I kill Israel: 1 catapult, 3 archers and 2 spears. (20-5)

I kill Maghreb: 2 crossbows. (22-5)
(IT) There is more invisible fighting south of Seoul. That area is really a hot zone for enslavers.

1310 AD (4)
I kill a Russian archer by Casablanca. (23-5)
I hope that isn’t a sign another civ pushing that area hard.
All of the reinforcements keep heading that way.
I get confirmation of the typical way behind in tech in AW. I spot a medieval catapult from Persia. That means that we are at least 6 techs behind.
(IT) There is more invisible activity south of Seoul.
I barely kill the Russian chariot attacking Casablanca. (24-5)
The next research project is construction. I want to get as many 4 turn techs out of the way as possible.

1320 AD (5)
This is a weird turn. There is nothing in range to attack. I do see more Israel troops heading to Leptis.
(IT) The Inca complete Philosophers Stone. That requires alchemy. The tech gap may be worse that I thought. They are already in the Middle Ages. :(

1330 AD (6)
I kill Israel: 1 archer and 1 warrior. (26-5)
I kill a Persia catapult that landed near Napata. (27-5)
(IT) I just watch units walk around.

1340 AD (7)
I kill Russia: 2 archers and 1 bucket. (30-5)
I kill Israel: 2 spears and 2 archers. I lost 1 sword. (34-5)
I gained 2 workers.
(IT) The Germans are building Sacred Music. They have at least 2 age of discovery techs.

1350 AD (8)
I kill Israel: 3 spears and 4 archers. I lost 1 sword. (41-5)
A regular horse promoted to vet.
I kill Persia: 1 archer and 1 ballista. (43-5)
I gained a worker.
I kill Russian: 1 archer and 1 spear. (45-5)
(IT) I get a lucky break as someone’s enslaver killed the Russian archer by Casablanca.
The next tech is naval warfare. It is so cheap that it can be researched in 4 turns at positive cash flow.

1360 AD (9)
I kill the damaged Israel chariot by Casablanca. (46-5)
I get a bonus as that horse promoted to elite.
I killed someone’s enslaver by Casablanca. (47-5)
I killed an Israel archer by Leptis. (48-5)

It is getting tougher by Seoul. A Persian MDI shows up.
I kill Persia: 1 MDI and 1 ballista. I lost 1 sword. (50-6)
(IT) The Aztecs want to talk. I find that funny, as I can’t recall the last time an Aztec unit was talked about.

I complete world religion Buddhism.

1370 AD (10)
I kill Israel: 1 catapult and 1 archer. (52-6)
Korean Swordsman of Leptis arrives. I burn $20 in Leptis for some walls. This will set it up for an expensive rush next turn.

I wasn't able to take any cities. However, I was able to build up this present for Israel.

Note that we will gain a new luxury from this spot. This will be a very good city to gain.

There is a road building crew in the area by Leptis.

You can see the reinforcement parade to the right of the picture.

My proposed city location:
The two forest with game are 3 food, 2 good, and 1 shield. I already have workers mining first tile. This city should be able to quickly gets walls, forge and slavery up. It works pretty good with the other cities in the area.
There are already 2 spears on the tile waiting for the clan to arrive. It clan showed my last turn of the set.

Summary:
Use the leader first in Leptis for an expensive rush
This should be the very first move next turn.

JJ should be able to at least get that Israel city during their set. Israel is backwards versus us, so they are a great target.

The next city I proposed above will keep expanding west. It should have decent productivity. It will take some time to getting irrigation to the city.

With MDIs showing up it is time to keep some chariots by Seoul. Going south of Seoul still looks bad with how many invisible battles have been in the area.

ROSTER:
Multiple civs are probably south of Seoul. Please don’t explore that direction.

Good progress. This is that phase where we need some buildup between waves of city-taking. Hopefully we can build more momentum over the next few turnsets.

I like the proposed city site. Multiple Game tiles and a blend of grass and forest - what's not to love?

The Inca complete Philosophers Stone. That requires alchemy. The tech gap may be worse that I thought. They are already in the Middle Ages.

Definitely worse -- multiple civs started Philosopher's Stone at the end of 800 AD :(

I can’t recall the last time an Aztec unit was talked about.

Just a single Meso-archer ca. 850 AD.
